Sold a perfectly working piece of equipment (wont say what in case buyer is on mn!!), even undercharged the postage, described it perfectly, and i know there was nothing wrong with it. Now I get an email saying it doesnt work at all :( . I dont have a leg to stand on do I? :( . I cant afford to lose the money and the item, especially given that it cost a tenner to post. I did live help, and she just waffled on about it being assesssed by a specialist team if a complaint is opened. Specialist in one-word-against-the-other??!!

I rate a 'low' for item as described on my account apparently - was that one person who didnt like the dvd I sold? they never took my offer of refund, didn't leave feedback - so how could they influence a low score? Not got any bad feedback at all. One neutral in the last yr, which the buyer later regretted, admitting she shouldn't haven given it. All the rest are positives.

SadSad

It's shite isn't it.I had a buyer leave neg feedback out of spite because I opened a dispute after 10 days of no payment and no response to emails.

Sellers don't stand a chance!

fergoose · 13/04/2012 21:08

would the low rating be a low star rating then?

jimswifein1964 · 13/04/2012 22:11

Ahem, upon relooking, the low is for policy compliance not item as described. Blush I know what that was for... I sold a dvd by entering the isbn number and using ebays stock photo and description, assuming that if they provide this, then they are saying tis ok to sell. But apparently it was too adult, so was removed. How am I supposed to know they will provide you the listing details for an item you cant list??!!

Issy - so they did pay up after 10 days, hence being able to leave feedback? I've also had to report a non payment as the person paid cost only not postage, then said 'send me the item and I'll pay you the postage' - wtf? And another lady is coming to collect this week after about 3 weeks of waiting!

ebay is a fucking mugs game for sellers now.

can't leave feedback, you get charged to list, a percentage of your final value AND paypal on top of it (even tho ebay own paypal Hmm)

ridiculous

jimswifein1964 · 13/04/2012 22:27

I know. I tried to allow for all that by only selling things I didnt care about/how much they sold for. TBH, if the local charity shop could accept electricals, I'd have given this item to them gladly. But of ocurse I got excited at the sale price and planned a couple of treats for the kids.

What are the other options if I abandon ebay? Any great recommendations?

I'm still waiting for people to pay and leave feedback. They bought stuff on Tuesday and still no email just to say sorry I'm late with payment, I will pay... that's all I want. You wouldn't go into a shop and stand by the till saying I get my giro on Thursday so I'll just wait here until then!!!

I was selling face creams for £20 RRP £35 and had best offer on. I got offers of £4 from one person... WTF I'm not a friggin charity.

IDismyname · 14/04/2012 16:31

Has anyone tried Pre-loved? I've listed stuff, but never sold anything.

issyocean · 14/04/2012 17:19

Yes she paid as soon as I opened dispute then left neg feedback - bloody spiteful cow.I sent her a message telling her she should be ashamed of herself Blush

fergoose · 14/04/2012 17:43

If people haven't paid after 4 days I always open a dispute - no point hanging around I reckon.

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 14/04/2012 17:46

issyocean what did the feedback actually say any. Hance of getting it removed?

TheMonster · 14/04/2012 17:52

I've given up with Ebay. It's too much hassle and it's now unfair on sellers.

Search for local selling pages on FaceBook instead. You get a fair few weirdos but at least you don't have the hassle of posting.

kahlua4me · 14/04/2012 17:55

We have had 2people pay and not collect!
One was last year, I finally got hold of him after not answering any of my emails and he apologised saying he didn't want the item after all. He didn't want his money back either!
Now it seems to have happened again, the buyer paid through PayPal but has not collected nor answers emails anymore. He rang twice saying he would come but never appeared!
Very annoying

fergoose · 14/04/2012 17:58

you need to refund their paypal payment - you should never accept paypal for collection items anyway

LapsedPacifist · 14/04/2012 18:06

Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate some advice. I have 3 non-payers to deal with at the moment regarding auctions that finished between 1-2 weeks ago. I have sent them all invoices twice now, and emailed one of them a couple of times as well regarding some PayPal instructions - all with no response.

It's nearly 4 years since I last sold on ebay and the rules seem to have changed. What should I do now? Should I email them one last time threatening... what? If I open a dispute what happens next? And can I re-list the items now? Or offer them as Second Chances?

Sorry to be so clueless, but I sold regularly for 5 years and never actually had a non-payer in all that time. Is it true we can no longer leave any kind of negative feedback for non-payment?

Many thanks in advance! Smile

fergoose · 14/04/2012 18:13

start non paying bidder disputes, no point threatening just do it - you could have opened them on day 4. If they don't pay close in 4 days and get your fees back. Relist or second chance only when closed

And no they will not be able to leave feedback - and you cannot leave a neg for a buyer

LapsedPacifist · 14/04/2012 18:41

Thanks fergoose!

Jynxed · 14/04/2012 19:10

Also just about had enough of Ebay. The charges from both ebay & paypal are astronomical and sales prices are getting lower and lower. I had 6 items finishing tonight and barely got £20 between them for good quality stuff. By the time you add up how long it takes to photograph, list, faff about with slow payers / non payers, package up, take to the post office etc. its just not worth the effort.

And how come you can have 20 plus watchers, but only 1 bidder. Was everyone out this evening??

jimswifein1964 · 14/04/2012 19:21

Because the other 19 are watching to see how much they could sell their own identical item for Grin

OP posts:
Jynxed · 14/04/2012 19:31

In which case they will probably decide not to bother!

I don't know whether tonight was bad for some particularly reason, but I was selling items that I have seen going for around £15-20 each, and I got £3. And my items were in better condition! Perhaps everyone is out having Grand National parties?

TheMonster · 14/04/2012 19:39

Sunday night is a good time for items to end, or much later on a Saturday (when people get in from the pub!).

Jynxed · 14/04/2012 20:04

What do people sell which brings in any decent money? Trouble is, I don't have any expensive clothes or phones - my house seems to be full of rubbish, not stuff worth buying! I've been selling the kids lego the last couple of weeks, but that's gone now (if the buggers pay up that is). Any suggestions?

fergoose · 14/04/2012 20:09

I think Monday or Tuesday are best for ending listings

Trouble is unless you are selling something pretty unique, high fashion or desirable I don't think you can get the prices you used to on eBay. There are so many sellers and not enough buyers I reckon.

cece · 14/04/2012 20:13

I have sold a few larger items on gumtree and was happy with it. (think rabbit hutch, toys etc)

Spookey80 · 14/04/2012 20:15

If its any help. I sold a lovely pair of boots on eBay and the buyer asked for a refund as she said they were a wide fit?? And she complained that I had never stated this. No-where on the boots did it say wide fit and all I had stated was the size printed on. The buyer came up with all this rubbish about the fact they were made in Italy, and Italy has a wider fit.... And such like. Anyway I clearly stated no refunds and felti had not misrepresented the item.
eBay awarded the buyer a full refund and postage. I was so mad, but when I contacted eBay they then gave me a refund also.
It has also put me off selling as I felt really upset with this stress. I think the buyer just changed her mind. I have bought lots is things on eBay that have been different when they arrived, but in the spirit of eBay I just sell it on. That's the nature of it.
So I would say give eBay a call.

kahlua4me · 14/04/2012 20:42

I did offer the one last year a refund, but he declined saying he was mucking me about and that it was his fault.

I will return the latest one his money though. I did not know that you should not accept Paypal for collection items until I read it on here recently.

But with both items I had stated cash on collection too.
