I don't think iabu but just wanted others opinions.

I bought an ergo carrier off eBay but before it arrived a friend told me there was a big fake Market so to be careful.

When it arrived I emailed the seller to ask if it was genuine and they said it was 100% authentic and genuine.

It has a lot of the features of a genuine ergo however the warning label is in one language, it came with a DVD, and the box & DVD say made in china but the serial number label on the carrier says made in India.

Add to that the fact it came in the post from china when the seller is in the Netherlands do you think iabu to ask for a refund?

I also appear to have just bought a Fake via an Amazon marketplace for £70. The seller has said he will give me a fullr efund plus my p&p. This just didnt look right, appeared cheap.....only had the label in english with a spelling mistake NUBUCKLE instead of unbuckle, came with a DVD and a printed leaflet but the print was just a bit pale and blurry, the print on the box wasnt particularly good quality either. Anyway have sent it back today so fingers crossed i get my refund. Have bought one from a registered seller from the ergo site now.

Mrsv it definitely sounds like a fake - although there are some ergos out there that have that spelling mistake the big giveaway is the label being in only one language on the fakes.

Just wanted to update and ask slightly more advice. I escalated to eBay yesterday when the 8 day negotiation period ended. I got an email from the seller at 18:46 asking me to send it to someone in Kent (!) and saying I would get a full refund if I did this. Then at 18:50 I got a refund and an email from eBay saying this:
Good news. We've informed the seller that the item wasn't as described, and the seller has issued you with a full refund. This case is now closed.

Refund information:
A full refund of £48.98 was issued on 12 Jan, 2012. The refund includes the purchase price plus original P&P and was issued to the same payment method you used to pay for the item.

Do I need to send the item to the person (who I suspect thinks they've bought a genuine ergo off eBay) in Kent now that the case is closed and I've got my refund?

It is definitely a fake. - I sent the serial number to ergo and they have confirmed it's counterfeit as the serial number is different to the way they number theirs.

No you don't need to send it back. eBay have given you a no fault refund out of their funds - seller has kept your money but you don't need to send the item back

Make sure you leave appropriate feedback stating item is a fake - just don't mention paypal in your feedback

Thanks fergoose :)

Left negative feedback yesterday stating item was counterfeit.
Seller asked me to revise it, claiming to be disabled and eBay is only source of income, and that they were conned by their supplier who sent some genuine and some fake!
After looking at their feedback stats I saw they had sold at least 20 more 'ergos' but only 4 buyers of these had left feedback so I've declined their request to revise the negative feedback as I reckon I'm probably not the only person to have had problems!

Hi everyone, it's been really useful reading this thread - it's so annoying isn't it.
I actually bought my 'ergo' from Amazon last August for my baby that is due in March this year so when it arrived I just packed it away. At a meeting last week I was telling someone about it and they told me to check that it isn't a fake and lo and behold, yes it is a fake. It sounds very similar to what you have bought from Amazon mrsV2. I believe that I am too late to ask for a refund, but is there any other action I should take? Obviously I can't sell it on myself knowing that it's fake with safety issues so I am stuck with a carrier that I'm not sure I should use. Should I be reporting the amazon seller in any way?

Hi Martha if it was me I would contact the seller and ask for a refund anyway if you haven't used it and just packed it away.
Perhaps saying to them that you'll be informing trading standards (if it's a uk seller) if you don't get a refund might help your case?
Definitely ask for a refund though, dont just assume it's too late because you bought it in august.

Martha - if you paid by credit card you may be able to do a chargeback

mrsv2 · 16/01/2012 12:45

I have just recieved my ergo from a registered seller and blimey the difference in quality is amazing. When i spoke to this seller about my possible fake she asked me about the quality of the waist band......the proper one is not floppy but firm and padded. No refund yet from Amazon seller but only sent it back Thursday pm. If no joy by Wed will be recontacting and also contacting Amazon itself.
