?fake ergo carrier

I don't think iabu but just wanted others opinions.

I bought an ergo carrier off eBay but before it arrived a friend told me there was a big fake Market so to be careful.

When it arrived I emailed the seller to ask if it was genuine and they said it was 100% authentic and genuine.

It has a lot of the features of a genuine ergo however the warning label is in one language, it came with a DVD, and the box & DVD say made in china but the serial number label on the carrier says made in India.

Add to that the fact it came in the post from china when the seller is in the Netherlands do you think iabu to ask for a refund?

After you escalate the case they will give you the address if they want you to return it

NewYearFestiveCheer · 02/01/2012 19:50

Is this me or does this seem to get more dodgy sounding?!
The seller has asked that I send the carrier to an address in Israel!

It could well be dodgy - I would wait if I were you then escalate the dispute and do as eBay tell you to.

BertieBotts · 02/01/2012 20:40

I think definitely escalate too.

Sorry to be off topic but I just found this by chance today and thought you might find it useful.

Very useful Bertie - I like the sound of the boba 3G :-) the owners of ergo sound like cocks!!!

Quick update - I emailed the seller to say that as he's in Israel not the Netherlands he will have to pay the postage which I've estimated from royal mail website to be about £15 or else just give me a refund and I won't send it back (this is in line with what I understand of bays buyer protection policy) He replied and said how much would it be after I deducted the postage to Netherlands.

Just because it was mentioned further up, i'm currently mumsnetting with DS in a boba - it's great!

fergoose · 03/01/2012 15:25

what does he mean deducted? You are entitled to a full refund of all of your original payment (price & P&P) and he should also give you return postage costs, but there is no way you can enforce this unfortunately.

NewYearFestiveCheer · 03/01/2012 15:48

I think he means that he will pay the difference between sending it to Netherlands and what it will cost to send to Israel

OP posts:
NewYearFestiveCheer · 03/01/2012 15:53

How can it not be enforced?

OP posts:
fergoose · 03/01/2012 16:30

The return postage cost should be paid by the seller but there is no way of getting that money from them unfortunately

NewYearFestiveCheer · 03/01/2012 17:00

Ah. What would you say to that email? I'm inclined to say that unless it's going to Netherlands then I expect them to payy the return postage or I won't send it back. Do I need to continue trying to come to an agreement with the seller or do I just have to wait for the date (8th of jan I think) when the negotiating period is up to get eBay to make the decision?

OP posts:

I would just escalate it and wait for eBay to decide if I were you. You shouldn't return to a different address. Hopefully eBay will give a no fault refund and you won't have return costs to worry about.

Then you can leave appropriate feedback.

NewYearFestiveCheer · 03/01/2012 17:42

Thanks :) I'll keep you posted.

I think with forgerys you do not have to return it to get a refund

NewYearFestiveCheer · 03/01/2012 20:46

Does This make sense to anyone?!!! Message from seller:-
'HI First it is 100% genuine authentic Ergo baby carrier. I didnt answer your Questions because i know you stick to your guns. But i will answer it shortly. I has DVD because it is 2010 production. It has been sewed in India but final production in China. It is organic, but i didnt mention it because, we do not allowed to sell this specific series in Europe. However, if you still want refund, you can send it to Netherlands at your expense. This is Ebay rules. I also lose money ( shipping cost and all fees ) Moreover, i can offer you deal. i will refund you keep it £ 20 and you can keep it. in other words you apparently buy it for £19 44.99- £6 shipping to Netherlands- £20 refund = £19 '

He is offering you a partial refund if you keep the item and don't refund it? Well it is up to you. I would still wait and escalate the case if I were you.

fergoose · 03/01/2012 21:21

don't return it is what I meant!

NewYearFestiveCheer · 03/01/2012 21:25

I Think I will wait and escalate. The story sounds a bit fantastical to me! Hmm

OP posts:
fergoose · 03/01/2012 21:27

It does sound a bit fishy!

NewYearFestiveCheer · 06/01/2012 13:43

just had message from eBay seller saying he will offer me £22 refund & I can keep the fake ergo or else I can send to Netherlands and get a full refund. WWYD?

OP posts:
NewYearFestiveCheer · 06/01/2012 13:44

Btw he is still saying it's real!

OP posts:
fergoose · 06/01/2012 16:40

it depends on which address he is telling you to return it to - is it the same as the registered eBay address

NewYearFestiveCheer · 06/01/2012 17:05

He still hasn't given me an address!!! Also I don't know how to tell if it's the registered eBay address he gives me. I've also noticed that the ?town of his location has changed since I bought the carrier, but still Netherlands.

OP posts:
fergoose · 06/01/2012 17:27

I would wait to escalate it then if I were you - unless he refunds you in full plus postage before you send it back, but I doubt he would do that
