1st week of selling and a beeatch says my perfume isn't authentic. FGS!

Sold my beloved Tom Ford perfume as am skintyskint, together with other bits.

Buyer says it smells of 'cat pee' Hmm so either isnt authentic or has gone off.

It is authentic - have John Lewis dispatch email - and can't have gone off as it's 5m old and in a solid black bottle. AND I tested it before sending and smelt lush as always.

Methinks buyer has changed her mind and is being a rude beeatch to boot.

What do I do? My listing states no returns...but...????

I would probably offer to refund cost of prefume but not postage. Only once she has posted back to you at her own expense though.

It's a bit of a cop out I know but I can't be bothered with falling out with people on ebay. Even when they are taking the piss.

TheMonster · 13/04/2011 11:24

It sounds like she is taking the (cat's) piss. A lot of people will try it on in the hope that you will just refind in full and let her keep it.
BUT DON'T! As Molly says, offer her a refund of her purchase price only and explain that you can provide the original receipt to prove it is not fake or old enough to be off. I would also put that you expect it to be returned with only a few sprays used too.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/04/2011 11:24

I would get her to return it for a refund too.

TheMonster · 13/04/2011 11:24

Point out that your listing says no returns, too, and that maybe she would like to be more careful about which sellers she buys from in the future if she is buying perfume.

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 11:26

Thanks all.

I thought this was going to be breeze, this ebay lark :(

I find it's about 1 in 100 transactions that gets awkward, so don't worry too much about it.

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 11:33

Really eeyore? Maybe I should keep heartened then. Thing is, I've bought duff things in the past and hate it when ebay feels like a dodgy car boot sale rather than genuine private sellers, so I'd never in a million years sell anything ropey.

I've messaged her and I'll see what she says.

And in my head I'm cursing her Grin

Ebay and Paypal both say to assume good will on the other part of the other person - easier said than done in some cases!
People will try it on, especially when you are a new seller, but don't give up.

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 12:54

I messaged her saying I'd contact ebay for advice as it was defo genuine etc and at most I'll refund minus postage and fees she came back accusing me of abuse and saying she'll open a claim.

WTF?!

She is on the con I'm sure - but what do I do? Its £31 which goes along way when you're skint and I know she's lying :( :(

OP posts:
stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 13:01

Ignore me. I'll wait for ebay to come back to me.

She's a delight though.

IF she opens a claim, then don't panic. As long as you are honest and give all the information, it will hopefully be ok.
She may well just be trying to scare you into refunding her.
Have you responded?
Reply with something like:
I am sorry that you are not happy with your item. As previously stated, I am happy to refund you for the purchase price once I have received the perfume and I am satisfied that only a few squirts have been used.
I will of course provide all the necessary information should a claim be opened, such as the original receipt for the perfume, as mentioned in my earlier message.

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 13:36

OK. Thanks Eeyore.

I'm such a woos!

TheMonster · 13/04/2011 13:37

Let me know what happens.

Gracie123 · 13/04/2011 13:41

It took nearly 3 months, but paypal did eventually find in my favour in a similar case (mobile phone - buyer said it didn't work, I said 'fine return it' he never did). Unfortunately paypal hold the money until they decide it's resolved. I my case that was £145 for 3 months Shock

But it was nice when they eventually found in my favour and I got it back... Grin

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 13:43

Thing is, I can prove its genuine by the receipt, but how can I prove it's not gone 'off' as she says it smells like cat pee Angry which I know it doesnt.

How can I win a case when it's her word (or rather, nose) against mine?

Or can't I win?

It seems so unfair. I sold my fecking lovely perfume for this hassle!!

OP posts:
BarbaraBar · 13/04/2011 13:44

She's probably decanted the lot and trying to get her cat to piss in the bottle now.

Good luck OP - stand your ground. Does this buyer have history?

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 13:47

Yep she has 200 odd feedback, some as a seller some as a buyer but no negs.

Ironically, one of her feedbacks as a seller is a positive but says "shoes not leather as described".

OP posts:
stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 13:59

Anyone know if I can prove it's not off. Like my comment ^.

I'm stuffed aren't I.

OP posts:
TheMonster · 13/04/2011 14:58

I would go for the angle that maybe it's not to her liking rather than say it is off.

BeaMoaning · 13/04/2011 15:01

Be careful she dosen't send you a dodgy fake one back and keeps your nice one.

BarbaraBar · 13/04/2011 15:04

Just a suggestion but how about telling her that you don't accept what she says, you have the receipt and can't be sure what has happened to the perfume since she received it (see cat pissing in bottle above) but you want to end this sorry situation by offering a refund (inc postage) as a gesture of goodwill. Get the perfume back and enjoy it (as long as it's still in the bottle...) and try again with something else.

If you are anything like me this will bother you and take up far too much head room.

Ponders · 13/04/2011 15:09

"no returns" means nothing if the buyer says the item is not as described - I was on the other end of this when I bought a mobile phone which was in terrible condition, seller insisted "no returns" meant I couldn't be refunded but I was (after returning it, obv)

In my case I was all polite & nice like you, & seller was rude like your buyer, but it didn't help him in the end - I hope you will be able to resolve it & not be done over, she sounds charming Hmm - good luck

DollyTwat · 13/04/2011 15:09

Perfumes smell different on different people though don't they, so whilst it might smell lovely on you, it obv doesn't suit her.

Not your problem really, she can't expect to try it out like she's in a shop

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 15:11

Barbara this is taking up too much headroom, it really is. I know people say they're wooses alot but I really am. I get all shakey and upset at any kind of problem. My DH despairs of me at times, but hey , can;t change who we are right?

I'll refund her I guess.

She should pay return postage, yes?
Do Ebay refund my fees? (They amount to £3.16)
Should I refund her the postage it cost me to send it to her?

Thanks all :)

OP posts:
BarbaraBar · 13/04/2011 15:11

Good point Dolly.

Perhaps the perfume smells like cat's pee on her because she's a rank old hag who never washes and has personal hygene issues?
