... and who's always been borderline skinny/slender, is now packing on the pounds. I'm astounded and dismayed. She eats and eats, hungrily, but doesn't get much exercise. Her weight seems to be skyrocketing but I don't feel I can say much. First of all, I don't want to hurt her feelings and secondly, it's actually none of my business.

DD, whom I will call Julia, was diagnosed with epilepsy as a toddler, and has been having full tonic/clonic seizures since puberty. She's on lots of meds, but nothing new or increased for several years. However, Julia was having terribly painful cramps and tons of bleeding so she was recently referred to an ob/gyn who suggested the Mirena coil. This was earlier this year.

So I'm wondering what might be causing my19-year-old DD (Julia) to have such an increase in appetite and, unfortunately, weight gain. Some women are fine with being a plus size but I know for a fact that Julia is miserable and uncomfortable.

Any thoughts or ideas, MN?

I think it's somewhat insensitive to have this in the eating disorders section of the forum.

She's an adult, and as you acknowledge, it's really none of your business

Sorry! If this is in the wrong place, please tell me where and how to move it. Could DD have an eating disorder, though?

Mirena made me put on two stone in three months

Mirena caused weight gain? How dreadful! I used it for years without any weight gain.

What did you do, @Justneedaflippingtemporaryname?

What dress size is she, has she told you she is unhappy?

Hypothyroidism? A simple blood tests could rule it out, but symptoms include weight gain, heavy periods, fatigue etc as it acts as an accelerator pedal to many body functions. Consequently, in hyperthyroidism you would have the opposite as everything is working in overdrive.
