Child savings

Hi - my divorce is complete. I opened savings accounts for our kids when they were born. We paid into them from the joint account and my parents have also been paying in - significant amounts. Ex wants the accounts moved into joint names (kids names with two parents operating them) to prevent me from stealing the money - I have never taken money from them.
I can’t find any kids accounts with two parents operating it and I also don’t want to have this tie to him. It’ll be a point of contact and conversation. He is controlling and abusive.
what have others done?

i think a JISA would be sensible (assuming it isn’t over the threshold for one years deposit? That way, should you need to claim UC it is obviously not your own asset. You could also start both children a SIPP.

Nope. Leave the money where only you can access it, it's safe. I'd be very concerned about his motivations, given his financial situation

Do you have to do this?

CTFs for children don’t exist any more so it would be a junior ISA. But I don’t think you should.

My ex was the same and he asked if he could ‘borrow’ the 2k I had saved for our DD when she was 3. I never got it back.

DD asked my ex (her Dad) when she was about 15 if she had a CTF as her friends all did and his response was ‘highly unlikely - she will have spent it all on wine’ ( not like me and of course what a derogatory thing to say to a 15 year old about me) . Anyway there was no way I was giving him any access.

I like @Pinadaqx2 and @ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen
suggestions of ‘noted’ and then moving it so no one can touch it apart from paying into it.

Ex still doesn’t know DD even has or had a CTF as he gets a bee in his bonnet about stuff then forgets and moves on to the next wankery thing.

DDs was 11k by the time she was 18 from me paying £30 a month until then and it was nice to tell her knowing I had got it to that.

Definitely don’t give him access. Move it to one where no one can touch it (because it was the highest rate of interest blah blah blah etc)

Just say no.
As you are divorced, I'm assuming that the financial order was also sorted and the children's savings were not a part of that.
He doesn't think you are going to steal your children's savings. His purpose is control.

This! Stand your ground to protect the savings.

I did the opposite when I divorced and moved the children’s savings from jointly accessed accounts as xh was wanting to have it included in our schedule of assets.

I still used it for jointly agreed costs (school trips, etc) but he didn’t ever get access again himself.

My ex used our dc's accounts to stash money. I reported him to Virgin for fraud. They took it very seriously.
My mate suspects her exh did the same.
