What will you do this summer when the football runs out?

First summer for a while when there won't be any international tournaments or anything.

Will you miss it?

I am aware a lot of the Dads on MN hate football. But there must be some men and women who don't.

Will they feel bereft?

Cricket 20/20 world cup

mayorquimby · 19/05/2009 14:12

i always hate the football void of odd numbered years. the lions tour will keep me occupied

EvenBetaDad · 19/05/2009 14:12

DW is particularly disappointed as she really is the football expert in our house (she is from Newcastle and regularly does the 'Keegaan' chant). Her and DS1 now have soccer conversations that just leave me feeling inadequate.

Luckily we are moving house in July so that will keep us occupied over the summer - that plus Wimbledon.

She has made it clear that she wants a TV in the bedroom for the World Cup next year though.

Maybe I can persuade DW to come on Dadsnet for the World Cup so she can chat to other men about it while I talk to other women who are 'football widows'.

I'm a QPR fan so I'm actually quite happy when the football stops
Seeing as my wife is 20 weeks pregnant I think I will be pretty busy in summer anyway.

harleyd · 19/05/2009 22:27

the lions!

Mamazon · 19/05/2009 22:30

i know im not a dad but i love footy. can i come out to play too?

sadly i will have to l;earn the rules to egg chasing. my son has decided that rather follow mummy in her passion for the gooner he will join his father in the brutal game of rugby.
he joins a team in June so i'll have to get caught up pretty smartish

There's always wimbledon in the meantime.
And the pre season gossip. We're dying to see what happens to Chelsea and who becomes manager...

retiredgoth2 · 19/05/2009 22:36

Yep, I'm interested in Wimbledon too.

Especially now they have been promoted to the Blue Square Premier.....

....Cricket! It's a hell of a cricket summer...

20/20 world cup, and the Ashes. What more could one want?

harleyd · 19/05/2009 22:37

hell i forgot about wimbledon...all the rain this week should have reminded me

ingles2 · 19/05/2009 22:38

Never mind the premiership and international competitions (and as Arsenal supporters we're quite happy to )
What am I going to do with my Saturdays when the local little league finishes in a couple of weeks????
I've become strangely addicted to standing on the sidelines, with a drip dangling off the end of my frozen nose, shouting myself hoarse at ds1 as he thunders down a water logged pitch before falling flat on his arse.....
Roll on next season

simpson · 19/05/2009 22:39

Yep am holding out for Wimbledon here too

Am an Ipswich Town fan myself so our season is well and truly over already (although we have Roy keane )

Not a dad either BTW

Although am going to a couple of friendly matches near me in July that Ipswich are playing in so that will help

Am sure when sky sports did best derby s Bristol Rovers V City were in top 5...

fryalot · 19/05/2009 22:55

Football is my first love (manchester city [alas, no europe next season!] and hull city [fingers crossed for not getting relegated on Sunday]) but dp is really into his rugby so I'll be forced to watch the lions and I'll enjoy it because I always do, even though I whinge at him about the odd shape of the ball.

ds will be forced to wear rugby shirts, I suppose, but it's a small price to pay when you consider he spends every weekend in his city shirt, with the odd hull outfit thrown in now and again, and dp doesn't bat an eyelid (any more )

Mamazon · 19/05/2009 22:58

well i had to go and watch the adults playing rugby the other week. i can't say it was too horrific an experience. not that i had a clue what was going on of course, i just enjoyed the perv factor.

simpson · 19/05/2009 23:13

squonk
We can`t do ANY WORSE can we????

simpson · 20/05/2009 14:53

Squonk - Hull will be fine then

Nope it will be Borro and Newcastle doomed I think...

fryalot · 20/05/2009 22:31

niftyblue - err... you haven't been a city fan long, have you? if you think this is bad!!! I remember Alan Ball telling the lads to play for a draw when the entire crowd knew we had to win by two clear goals to be safe from relegation. We drew. Twat!

simpson - I like your confidence, I'll try to remember it on Sunday...

wrinklytum · 20/05/2009 22:33
