Vasectomy worries

Hi there,
DH is having a vasectomy. His choice - something we have discussed. But his body, his choice. He has had the date through. And he is very worried about chronic long term pain.
Do any of you have experience you would be willing to share about post operative outcomes - either way? The GP has said they have little knowledge in this area around anything other than being successful in what the operation is designed to do.
Thank you.

My DH had it done 18 years ago and hasn't had any pain from it. It's not something I've enquired about with anyone else do I can only speak for him. He followed the recovery advice to the letter so I'm sure that helped.

Watto1 · 06/04/2021 21:59

Dh had one 6 years ago. No issues at all.

FrippEnos · 07/04/2021 16:28

You would be better researching this through various medical websites than on here.

The number for those that suffer long term chronic pain is 1 in 10 (from the nhs website)

Aquamarine1029 · 07/04/2021 16:29

I know loads of men who've had it done, none of them had or have any issues.

Bettina500 · 07/04/2021 16:34

My DH had it done a couple of years ago. He was fine afterwards, a bit sore on about day 3 I think but nothing major. He's had no problems since, he says he can feel the tiny scar site on one side occasionally but it's not painful.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/04/2021 16:40

DH had his nearly 3years ago.
A few weeks later a problem was discovered as it didn't heal properly... That he had another medical condition, completely unconnected. He needs medication for that daily for the rest of his life, but it wouldn't have been discovered without that Op.

Ongoing, no problems with the vasectomy whatsoever.

TristantheTyrannosaurus · 07/04/2021 16:42

DH had it 11 years ago. No problems.

Notaroadrunner · 07/04/2021 16:48

Dh had it 8 years ago and suffered pain for months afterwards - on and off. However, out of anyone I've heard having it done he's the only one I know who suffered pain. I assume he's fine now - haven't asked in years.

LadyGAgain · 07/04/2021 20:45

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I shall pass to him to read. We have done all the medical research but wanted your experiences so I'm grateful you took the time to respond.

10% risk of PVPS, frequently untreatable. I work in ITU but I checked this with our GU Reg.

SirHonkers · 07/04/2021 20:51

Had mine in 2016 aged 36. No issues at all.

DowntonCrabby · 07/04/2021 20:55

DH had his mid 2018, no issues since.

EcoCustard · 07/04/2021 21:00

DH had it done in summer of 2018. Seemed a minor procedure in one of the local GP surgery’s. He was in minor discomfort for a week but all seemed well.

We had Dc4 the following year admittedly we should of waited until sample 2 was clear.
However I discovered I was pregnant last Autumn two and a half years later and two samples stating that his vasectomy was successful. I opted for a termination and the constant questions through out ‘of is it his?’ Gave me the rage, no one batted an eye that it seemed to of failed more concerned with my fidelity. Angry
He had been to the Gp numerous times complaining of pain and swelling in his testicles but was dismissed with ‘take some ibuprofen it will be ok’. His latest sample has come back with viable sperm so it hasn’t worked or something went awry. After speaking to our new GP who was frankly horrified he has been referred to urology but it’s going to be a long wait.

I will add though I worked with a lot of men who had vasectomies but all seemed ok afterwards, uncomfortable for a few weeks but ok.

LadyGAgain · 07/04/2021 21:33

Wow @EcoCustard . That sounds like a fairly traumatic few years Thanks

Aprilshowersandhail · 08/04/2021 20:51

HammersBen · 09/04/2021 12:46

Ouch not for me I'll leave the earth as I came with all that intact. The Mrs should get it done hers will stop working anyway

Aprilshowersandhail · 09/04/2021 16:13

Ben do you have dc?

dobidobidooo · 09/04/2021 16:18

My dh had it done but had the no scalpal method...no pain, no bruising, and no time off work needed. All good!

Cuntryhouse · 09/04/2021 16:34

Yeah pain problems for dh. Anaesthetic didn't work. Intermittent pain always. Nothing he can't live with, but makes you think. A bloke on here wants his balls chopped off as he has been in complete agony. It has ruined his life. Erectile dysfunction can be a problem too. Not everyone is on the golf course within the hour.

ShovellyJoe · 09/04/2021 16:39

DH had issues. Anaesthetic didn't work and they held him down, serious swelling and bruising (abdomen and thighs were black), multiple infections and cyst and ongoing pain.

LadyGAgain · 10/04/2021 10:58

Gosh @ShovellyJoe Shock

My husband had his vasectomy 5 years ago now. It was very quick and painless. He said it hurt for about 2 weeks afterwards but it was like a dull ache in his stomach? Like a very mild case of being kicked in the balls. He was told not to lift things and rest etc but he was fine to carry on with every day activities the day after (apart from sex, that was not an option until a week later and we still used condoms cos it's not safe to do so until he had the samples back to show he was producing no sperm). He had no long term effects at all. No lingering pain and no problems with erections. Sensations are exactly the same. Just no swimmers!

LadyGAgain · 24/04/2021 18:04

He is 4 days post op and so far so good.
