Vasectomy worries

Hi there,
DH is having a vasectomy. His choice - something we have discussed. But his body, his choice. He has had the date through. And he is very worried about chronic long term pain.
Do any of you have experience you would be willing to share about post operative outcomes - either way? The GP has said they have little knowledge in this area around anything other than being successful in what the operation is designed to do.
Thank you.

My DH had one and it was a tricker procedure. He had a lot of pain and discomfort afterwards.
He feels the tube has been stitched to the skin somehow (but has no evidence/examination to prove this) and can feel it sometimes but it's not painful. He is very pleased he went ahead with it all the same.

Dp had one 18 months ago. Said it never got over a 1/10 pain wise

He did research and buy really supportive undies though. Like a jock strap. The theatre nurse was over the moon with them!

I went in with him and watched - fascinating!

I've had a non scalpel vasectomy. No real pain.

I can't emphasise enough for him to take it easy for a few days. Where some go wrong is thinking oh this is fine and then after 24 hours when the anesthetic wears off are in agony.

Any pain should only be short term mind. Should be no longer term pain.

I had mine done 10yrs ago and was in agony for weeks. I now get dull ache every time I climax which lasts a few minutes. Manageable but would rather not have it

Had mine done last year. It was uncomfortable but not painful, timed it on my watch at 18 minutes start to finish. (Wasn't much else to do)

Wife picked me up and I demanded ice cream and pizza, which she happily obliged.

Wife and I were having sex again after a week, maybe a little longer.

Back in the gym/doing sports after two weeks just to be safe.

The chronic pain risk is whats put dp off having one too. Glad to see theres been little of this although id still be terrified it would fail as he has form for being a one hit wonder!

The poster who described the reality of long term pain was thefuzz. He was at the severe end.

I in 10 get severe pain (NHS definition means lasting at least 3 months and/or requiring further surgery to fix). Some are untreatable, and even denervation may be ineffective.

NHS is at the cautious end of the frequency of risk, btw. Lots of peer reviewed papers put it higher.

It still means that for the vast majority of men they are fine, there are only minor problems and everything is OK in a few weeks. Some much faster.

But 1 in 10 is not a proportion to be overlooked

I had it done about ten years ago. Basically healed fine, although I'm aware of a slightly tender sensation there when I wank a lot, which I didn't have before.

A mate of mine though, had no end of problems. Swollen veins making him unable to walk and needing time off work. Really bad stuff.

That in itself doesn't mean anything as one off problems like that can happen with anything, But I remember when he told me the statistics of percentages of people that got various complications, I was shocked at how high they were, That certainly wasn't made clear to me, and I'm not sure I would have gone through with it had I known.

DH had one 5 years ago and no long term side effects. He was a bit fragile for a couple of weeks (stomach cramp like pains) but other than that he was fine. The procedure was very quick and painless. It was his decision to do it. Glad he did.

@HammersBen

Ouch not for me I'll leave the earth as I came with all that intact. The Mrs should get it done hers will stop working anyway

DH had about a week of pain but that was because he had a slightly more complicated procedure due to existing scar tissue (from surgery to correct a torsion ).
