DH is having his vasectomy done Monday afternoon. Anything I need to know?

Comfy pants and paracetamol are at the ready. Just the removal of hair to be done now.

It is so on the tip of my tongue to crack some jokes like "it's going to be nothing compared to what I went through twice having our two dd's" but I mustn't!
I'm it's going to be very uncomfortable for him so I must try and be sympathetic.

my dh had it done sturday morning,took it very easy all weekend and was back at work monday morning.
I was really well behaved and curtailed the sarcastic comments,don't know how I did it really.He did tell the Dr. that I sheved him in a disappointingly efficient and professional manner lol.

Dh didn't need to have his hair off, are you sure yours does? Dr said to him that shaving the hair would make it more uncomfortable and that you wouldn't want it itching with regrowth after having the snip. Dr has had his done too so he knew what it felt like. Dh wasn't in much pain but was very achy and didn't move for the first day or 2 much. After that he slowly did more but even a week later wearing normal trousers hurt him.

ggirl - your dh was back at work pretty quickly then. DH has taken three days holiday. Says he might go back to work Wednesday but will see how he feels.

Very odd as it definitely isn't necessary. Dh had his done on a Wednesday morning and had that day, Thursday and Friday off work. The dr said to take 3 off and then he had the weekend just in case.

Don't do what my friend did - 4 kids, so he booked the op - had a 'farewell perfomance' - No 5 came along 9 months later....

Just don't tell all and sundry about it.
I cringe when people tall me about their dh's vasectomies.
I SO DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

Buy him supportive, but not tight, pants. Cheapie frozen peas. He will need them. Don't kick him there, unless he does aomething really bad....

The biggest thing to be prepared for is how huge and black his whole scrotum will go.

DH has said I should type, the procedure itself is not dissimilar to going to the dentist but marginally more embarassing. The worst bit is the large purple balloon you find in the evening and are shocked by how it looks.

He probably wont have any stiches to the area so it may bleed a little (or a lot!!) into the pad the GP gives you.

DH was only uncomfotable for a few days.

No shaving here either - it's just not necessary.

He doens't need to be shaved. The deed isn't done anywhere near that bit.

There was a programme about this on Radio 2...

Wear close fitting underpants day & night the first week
No strenuous sport for a week or 2
No heavy lifting for 2 weeks

Very few men have problems - about 1 in a hundred get swelling - worst case = goolies like mangoes (!) and I think they said 1 in 2000 have to go back as it doesn't work first time.

I would check on the shaving thing. Practices seem to vary - or bring a good razor and shaving foam just incase.

Stitches - again, VARIES! Some put disolving ones in...that sometimes don't disolve......and need removing later...

and discolouration.....and LOTS of groaning!!!

When I started thread I thought DH might want to reat through for tips and reassurance. Probably best that he doesn't see it all now . Bless him - he's starting to pace around the house now and getting nervous.
GP definitely told DH to shave. Better follow his instructions. Wouldn't want to upset him now would we?

The Radio 2 prog said the problem is that men breeze out feeling fine so then they do too much. If he follows the advice he should be fine.

The job is done. In and out in half an hour. DH says he isn't feeling sore. He describes it as a dull, achey feeling that's making him feel sick - same feeling as being kicked. I'm being kind to him.

Make sure he rests. That seems to make alot of difference to how well they recover. From what I have been told quite a few men do too much in the day afterwards, as it doesn't feel too bad then, but then pain kicks in after a couple of days.

He came straight in the door and sat down. I had to go off and pick up dds1 and 2 from my friends and while I was out he said that he had got up to get something to eat. He said he went giddy and so went and sat back down again.
I've just made him a sandwich.
He is very jumpy and nervous when people walk anywhere near him at the moment.
