I'm new to this site.

I'm frankly quite upset at the attitude of some of the women on here.

I visited some of the feminist sections and wow! Misandry galore. We are always being told feminism is about the progression of equality. But all I've seen seen so far is hateful stereotyping and over offensive cliches about certain sections of the male gender.

This troubles me for a number of reasons.
How on earth do they expect to progress equality if they still can't shake off these age old stereotypes about men?

Isn't stereotyping what they've always accused us of doing to them?

Why should the feminism section be helpful to you, uber?

ubersquiz · 18/10/2014 11:23

Anywho. Its been enlightening......

I have a 3 year old to take out for some fun and games. Don't worry I'll make sure its non gender specific and sterile fun.

Bye now.

By posting this in Dadsnet I'm assuming you're looking for some male support on this.

So can I just say that as a man I'm sick to death of people signing up for Mumsnet purely to respond in faux-outrage at any post on the FWR threads which dares not to tiptoe round the sensitivities of men, and then to follow up with lengthy pronouncements on how the women hear are doing feminism wrong. Maybe you consider it misandry on my part to note this, but the vast majority of people who engage in this pattern of behaviour are men.

NickiFury · 18/10/2014 11:26

Well yes, but if you are then you must expect a similar response.

I love the word pontificate. It's a perfect word in this instance too.

Scarletohello · 18/10/2014 11:32

Wow I never knew gamers were such a sensitive breed....

I too am shocked to find feminists in the feminist/women's rights section, and what shocks me even more is that I don't agree with all of them.

YonicScrewdriver · 18/10/2014 11:40

Thanks NotDT.

I would say from your own description on this thread about your contribution to the feminism section, that you were being at best a little insensitive.

If there was a section on the site specifically for black people to discuss the racism they have suffered and continue to suffer and they were talking about the behaviour of white people in general within the racism they had suffered and someone goes in and says "oh, you're being racist by stereo typing white people!" Yes, they may be stereotyping but the aim is not to get rid of racism against the vastly privileged section of society that is white - they will not want to focus on doing that when they are facing the much bigger problem of institutionalised racism against black people.

The analogy can be applied to the feminism boards. Yes, sexist stuff against men may appear but it would be crazy for them to worry about getting rid of it amongst themselves rather than focus on sexism against women which is the bigger problem by far and the one they have chosen to focus on. The clue is in the name of that board.

^"Because as yet I've not had a chance. Out of morbid curiosity I thought I'd have a look at the feminism section. After all it should be helpful to me shouldn't it?
What I saw was not what I was expecting."^

It's a group of (mostly) women discussing women's rights and a feminist perspective on the world. What you "expect" has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Buffy thanks for that clarification, I found that really helpful. ( so I wasn't stereotyping after all..!) Smile

NotDavidTennant Thank you Brew

OP My agenda? To talk about my sons Eosinophilic Esophagitis and the struggles we have with the constant allergic reactions to random foods and general feeding problems

Because as yet I've not had a chance

You've posted 55 times, I'd say you have had a chance to post about EE & your son's health. You've certainly had time to post on a variety of boards.

ballsballsballs · 18/10/2014 13:27

I'm grateful to everyone above for posting so eloquently in response to uber.

Dadsnet is free flowing today. Posts are up by 9000%

Scarletohello · 18/10/2014 15:15

What do men on dad's net usually talk about??

PanIsNotAButterfly · 18/10/2014 15:20

Oh it's deceptive round here.....most of the posts are in code, and most traffic is done by PM and the famous Dadsnet fb group.
We rarely talk about women or feminism, so this 'intrusion' triggered by the OP is most unwelcome.

LurcioAgain · 18/10/2014 15:38

Pan, that comment about code has given me this sudden image of you meeting one on street corners with your trilbies pulled down over your faces and the collars of your trenchcoats pulled up and muttering "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain" in recognition. I'm sure you all practise impeccable trade craft too! Grin

unerring Lurcio. Smile

There are threads on here 6-7 years old with 10-12 posts....
check the Sexual Tecnics thread? That one gets revisited year in/out.

YonicScrewdriver · 18/10/2014 15:57

It is pretty fab, Pan.

PanIsNotAButterfly · 18/10/2014 16:01

it is isn't it? in a really odd way. Glanced and saw RowanMN posting there, prior to her elevation.Smile
