I picked Rog for the tour de France and that, as we know, was the wrong decision. Because I always seem to work a tour behind I haven't got him this time. Will probably win it!

I think I'm going to sit this one out, though. I'd like to get back to the pre-velogames innocence, just for the craic, instead of being quietly pleased when another team's riders fall off or abandon etc. That's bad form and I need to have a 3 week talk with myself.

Oh go on, you know you'll regret it once it starts. The team you now have in the back of your mind will all start performing miracles and you will spend three weeks thinking 'I could have been a contender'!

Or, try to make the "worst" team you can come up with.

I have picked a very sentimental team which of course I shouldn't have done as they will inevitably all be doomed. Still, they can't be as bad as my Tour team, half of whom didn't finish...can they...
So far so good anyway, but of course there are lots of opportunities for disaster to come. I'll be a bit grumpy later this week as a couple of stages pass very close to Casa del In Laws but impending GCSE results have kept us at home. The route planners have excelled at taking La Vuelta close to or through their town on dates when we can't go for several years now and I am beginning to suspect that (non cyclist) Mr Avocet is in fact paying them to do so.

Mr Avocet sounds like some sort of fifth columnist. :-) Good luck with teh exam results.

My team was part sentimental and part not overspending after the first three because I'd spent so many points already. I am hoping that Nibali is saving himself for the mountains.

I'm gobsmacked

I've been busy the last few days so haven't had a chance to keep up with the Vuelta. So I finally have a chance to log into Velogames and find that I'm in the red jersey!

Well done prettybird! I've been watching but don't rate the Eurosport "highlights" they just show the last half hour of the race and then witter on.

A bit unsporting of me I know, but I was quite glad to see the awful weather as today is the day we would have been there were it not for GCSE results. But I swapped a foggy day at La Vuelta for sunshine at home and DS got great results. 🙂

I'm gobsmacked again .

I'd been complaining to dh that Louis Meintjes hadn't been performing for me in the Vuelta like he'd done in the Tour. He'd been the only one of my team still on zero points until yesterday when he scored a whole two points.

So today he only goes and wins the stage

Yes. My lot are dropping like flies. Gutted to lose Simon this morning. I dont suppose Bike Exchange are best pleased either, as they really need UCI points.😥

So far, I've lost 3 to Covid and one to a crash. At this rate I'm going to be emulating the then Orica - Greenedge team that year they finished the Giro with only 2 riders!

So much of what is now the norm for teams in terms of their interaction with fans, social media etc was kicked of by OGE and the fabulous Dan Jones who was responsible for all the early videos.
That's my claim to fame actually - I'm interviewed in an episode of Backstage Pass from the Giro a few years ago! (And got invited onto the team bus 😀)

I just randomly picked a Velogames Tour of Britain team by the way, it starts on Sunday. Sadly nearest to me is on Wednesday and annoying things like work prevent going to the coast to watch.

I've added a Tour of Britain team too (as has Harry Tuttle) - we're hoping to catch the stage in Dorset next weekend. Pity the live ITV4 coverage is scuppered at the mo due to bad weather!
