Msrissotto - I had the same concerns about her, probably exacerbated by what happened to my mum, whose fall was "only" at 25mph Sad

I also don't think cycling treats concussion with the seriousness that it should - unlike rugby at least in Scotland Sad

It was a strange format: I think Lizzie was very diplomatic in saying simply that "it needs more work" Wink

I don't think it compares (especially from the sponsors' perspective) to the coverage and exposure that they got doing the Champs Élysées route on the last day of the Tour.

msrisotto · 22/07/2017 16:25

Yeah, they definitely give women's cycling lip service.
Sorry to hear about your mum. I agree, there has been a shocking disregard for concussion after the crashes this tour. It is frankly irresponsible of the race organisers and I hope it won't be long before that changes dramatically and we look back at how it is right now and shake our heads in disbelief about the way it was. I say it every time we see a crash and a wobbly cyclist get back on the bike without anyone assessing how they are.

msrisotto · 23/07/2017 09:24

How scandalous would it be if Landa went to go get that seconds on Bardet?

Pannnn · 23/07/2017 17:58

It would be v scandalous, wouldn't it. Here's hoping!

At least it isn't raining on the cobbles.

Sylvain in the lead group. Quelle surprise. Bike

EndoplasmicReticulum · 24/07/2017 13:21

Well that's it for this year - it had its moments but not one of the most exciting tours I've ever seen. My depleted team managed to pull themselves of the bottom of the velogames at the last minute.

Only about 3 weeks before we can start getting excited about the Vuelta!

Bike
DramaAlpaca · 24/07/2017 13:33

I agree Endo, not the most exciting Tour for me either.

Except for my Velogames performance of course Wink

Pannnn · 24/07/2017 13:45

It was quite all understated apart from G leading in yellow, the injustice of Cavgate, one of Aru's domestiques being pleased Froome reclaimed yellow, and that turn that Froome did to stay in the race.

The woman who will be the next MrsPan has been asking Tour-related questions......poor, inncent thing. Grin

DramaAlpaca · 24/07/2017 15:01

The next MrsPan you say??? Oooh, how exciting! Sounds like congratulations are in order Flowers

Pannnn · 24/07/2017 20:19

Oooh we'll see! Am popping the question a week on Saturday....serenading her, quoting her fave love poem ( Cloths of Heaven) making a short request for hand in marriage, all on bended knee! Not done this before - not planning on doing it again.Grin

DramaAlpaca · 24/07/2017 22:49

Oh, you romantic old thing you! How lovely. Hope all goes to plan and she says yes. Beautiful poem, btw.

How exciting, an MN peloton wedding!

Pannnn · 24/07/2017 23:38

It is isn't it? I introduced it to her and she adores it. The song is 'Dream a little dream of me.' I can warble a bit and have been practicing. Getting the ring next week.
We are going to a friend of her's wedding on 12 th Aug so she can intro me as her betrothed.
Bet you're sorry you asked now! Wink

MrSlant · 24/07/2017 23:41

Stuff the tour (NEVER thought I'd say that!) good luck next Saturday Pan, what excitement. When are you introducing her to the peloton, I mean she does know you have a gang of cycling mad women that live in your computer doesn't she? Please update the thread with your good news (because we all know she'd be mad to say no)

Loved Landa pretending to make a break away and chuffed for Dylan getting the final stage win. Misted up badly at Barguil's dad in tears (although I was a bit pfft at his most combative award) and was pleased that Froome looked properly emotional getting his yellow jumper.

Post tour come down is horrible though. Only holding on because of the ITV4 adverts, with great music, for the Vuelta and prospect of the current possibles on the start line. Be awesome to have both Yates brothers doing it if that works out.

Chapeaux Drama on your astonishingly good Velogames team. I was quite chuffed to not be bottom of the pile beat DS1 four riders down. Beaten by DS3 but as I helped choose his team I'm taking that as a victory of sorts.

My most exciting news (which falters badly in the face of Pan's) is that the bike repair shop DS1 did his work experience in last week phoned to offer him an actual job today without him even asking for one so his dream of working in cycling is closer, I am so chuffed for him.

Pannnn · 24/07/2017 23:45

Oh brill news on the bike shop!

Yes she knows there is a peleton of women I spend the summer with virtually biking round Europe with. She has a shopper bike with two baskets. Weighs a ton and will be useless she she comes out here to the Peaks. IF she has the good sense to say Yes. 😍

DramaAlpaca · 25/07/2017 00:01

Oh good news MrSlantJunior, well done him Bike

Thank you for the chapeaux MrS. Like I said on the other thread, I owe it all to the very lovely Eddy B-H, my wild card, who got lots of points for me thanks to his great form this Tour.

Was watching the Tour de Wallonie on Eurosport this afternoon. It didn't help with the post tour come down, sadly. Roll on the Vuelta.

Pannnn you need to get a tandem, and here's another song for you:

'Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do.
I'm half crazy, all for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'll look sweet, upon the seat,
Of a bicycle made for two!'

Grin
MrSlant · 25/07/2017 00:37

Pan if you don't manage to fit the song into your proposal we will be very disappointed, sod the beautiful poem Bike Grin Bike. She would be mad to say no and I think that's coming from a peloton who all love you very much. Plus I am willing to swap my Boardman for her lovely sounding bike if necessary.

DS1 had harboured thoughts of making it as a pro but a recent injury and his utterly scaredy cat reaction to it (I didn't laugh, well ok I did, quite a lot, sorry but don't have a health professional as a mother if you expect sympathy) means he has happily decided he wants to work alongside the pro's rather than at the sharp end! He's still going to cycle a lot but more safely, fingers crossed.

Pannnn · 25/07/2017 05:47

Thank you v much MrS, and for the suggestion of the song DA. Crumbs, this is going to be the longest proposal in history. She'll be sat there thinking "Just get on with it man..."

We did meet whilst I was on Spesh! I arrived at her place of work to do a presentation, and as I crossed the car park bit she was hanging out of a ground floor window shouting at someone for playing their car stereo too loudly. As I went by I though " Oooh, who on earth is she? Must find out." And that was it. Both smitten.

Callmecordelia · 25/07/2017 06:11

Just catching up with the thread before the toddler wakes up, and it's like the best Tour finish ever!

Lovely news and plans all round.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/07/2017 11:27

I used to sing the Cloths of Heaven, I think - does it start, 'Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths...'? If it is, I learned it, many, many years ago, when I had singing lessons as a teenager. I do still remember at least part of it!

A MN Peloton wedding is really exciting news - perhaps we need a MN Peloton get together, to raise a glass to @Pannn and MrsPannn-to-be, once the question has been popped? I'm in Scotland, which might be a bit out of the way for most people, otherwise you'd be more than welcome to crash here.

"...sorry but don't have a health professional as a mother if you expect sympathy..."

@MrSlant - I used to be a nurse (but I'm all better now), and dh and the dses would completely agree with you - they get little or no sympathy at all! Dh has battled through any number of life-threatening colds with little more than the offer of a Lemsip, and a pat on the head with an incredibly sincere 'there there'!

@DramaAlpaca - dsis and dbil have not one, but two tandems - one for touring, and one for 'best'! The touring one can be laden with whatever they need when they do cycling holidays, but the one for 'best' does NOT get things strapped to it! They use that one for days out.

In our family, when the dses were teenagers, we had a formula for calculating how many bikes we needed - which was "one more". At one point we had 9.5 bikes in a house where 4 people actually rode. Apparently dsis and dbil have applied that to tandems, which I feel might be a little excessive. Mind you, they are a tad peculiar. They have all their books in alphabetical order - which I think is fine - but they have mixed fiction and non-fiction - which makes my brain itch!!

DramaAlpaca · 25/07/2017 11:42

SDTG we certainly need to have a hat shopping get together if nothing else Grin

I think a tandem would be fun, but I can see DH getting very pissed off because he'd have to do most of the work.

We use the 'one more' formula for bikes in our house too. There are currently five bikes at home, and another being delivered any day for DS1. It's a Canyon, you can only buy them online, and it cost him a small fortune. DH wants to replace his trusty road bike, but so far has contented himself with upgrading all the parts. I think he'll change his mind the minute he sees DS's new toy and buy one for himself.

prettybird · 25/07/2017 13:12

My parents used to have a tandem (custom built), which they used for touring. The rear hub (I think - part of the rear wheel anyway) kept breaking. The guy at the LBS crafted something with extra strong material which may or may not have come from a submariner friend at Faslane and it never broke again Wink

prettybird · 25/07/2017 13:22

On the "n+1" rule, I had to drive to Pilates today because all 3 bikes that dh and I can use (my road bike, dh's road bike and my mum's special hybrid) were hors de service Shock. (Ds was using his bike to go to the gym - and of course his track bike can't be used on roads).

Dh was having problems with his gears and hasn't managed to get them sorted yet (finally managed to get all three front chain rings operational but now the rear derailleur is hitting the spokes). So he went for a ride on my Specialized Allez - but I then got a phone call saying I needed to pick him up as the derailleur hanger had sheared Shock

My mum's bike is needing its brake pads replaced so badly it is not safe to ride. Shock

A trip both to Decathlon and to our LBS is in order (although dh is quibbling about how much the LBS would cost us).

Methinks I'll be cycling my mum's bike (because brake pads are easy to replace even though if never got round to buying new ones for it ) until my dad gets back mid August Wink

Pannnn · 25/07/2017 13:38

I think the prospective Mrs Pan will reply with "Oh Mr Pan! I had no idea of the strength of your feelings until this hour. This is all very surprising and I will need time to consider this proposal and forward my reply by equerry in good time." She's very Jane Austen.
And then say Yes.

Tandem - nope. I know exactly what will happen and yes I will be doing all the pedalling whilst Mrs Pan reclines with a good book. Probably Austen.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/07/2017 13:47

I am liking the sound of MrsPannn more and more! WinkGrin

DramaAlpaca · 25/07/2017 13:59

She sounds great, doesn't she? She'd fit right in here Grin

Pannnn · 25/07/2017 14:36

I am keeping her and the MN Peleton as far apart as possible. Grin

StillDavidTenenatsGirlfriend - yes that's the one, by Yeats. Who wrote it (and many other items) in pursuit of Maude Gonne for whom he had an unrequited love for decades. In my head I am planning a wedding Hoo-har in the back garden and the poem will be painted on the panel fences. Along with a few other things.
