Listening to Rachmaninov and I know he's a bit OTT and overblown and at 42 I should

prolly be listening to something a bit more cerebral and clever but god I love it.... Really carries you away. I do try but I love the really romantic stuff.

lol bach is my bitch

Marina · 31/10/2007 23:40

I've never got into romantic piano music - or Italian opera, to my shame. I am sure I am missing out on lots of treats.
Bach is my bitch too harpsi. God job there is LOTS to share out. B Minor Mass does it for me every time.

Heathcliffscathy · 31/10/2007 23:42

i love him. hate snobbish dissing of him as film theme composer.

Heathcliffscathy · 31/10/2007 23:43

chopin piano concerto number 2 martha argerich.

sigh.

nickToD · 31/10/2007 23:58

Yeah slow movement of chopin 2 fantastic.

nickToD · 01/11/2007 00:02

Coming back to the age thing 42 now but have loved this sort of music since my late teens. Love Bach too hairy irene- especially brandenburghs.

slim22 · 01/11/2007 00:33

chopin etudes & Bach Goldberg variations do it for me. Respectively Murray perahia and Glen Gould.
Can't get enough, intoxicating.

harpsicorpsecarrier · 01/11/2007 09:49

no I don't really get the swooping piano music either. or plinky plonky piano music.
"relaxing classics" makes me murderous tbh.
Einaudi is a particular offender.
I do have a soft spot for some chopin, mainly because an ex used to play it to me
gosh it's all coming out now

MrsBadger · 01/11/2007 09:55

dd (11wks) shows a marked preference for the Brandenburg concertos [ponce]

harpsicorpsecarrier · 01/11/2007 09:59

well who wouldn't
for a while my mobile ring tone was dd1 singing Vivaldi Gloria (not all of it, of course)
but I was too embarrassed and kept putting it on silent

OrmIrian · 01/11/2007 10:33

I used to boast that my eldest could tell when he was listening to Mozart or Bach when he was about 4 yrs old. Used it as a boast along with him just loving moules mariniere. Now he puts on a face like a smacked ar*e when forced to listen to any classical music and his preferred foodstuff is chicken nuggets.... Oh how the mighty are fallen....

Load it to your PC and switch it on everytime you come on the net!

OrmIrian · 01/11/2007 16:33

Still listening. Full volume so I can hear it will I cook and check up on work e-mails. DC's just put up with it in silent resentment . Lad came to see DS#1 and heard it playing and said 'nice music'...I don't think he has developed sarcasm yet...

Not keen on him either califire. I listen to Classic Fm in the car sometimes and he is always on there making me grip the steering wheel and grind my teeth.... It's not Classical music FFS! The other thing I hate about Classic Fm is the way they are always talking about 'relaxing classics' as if music is a kind of aural tranquiliser...

I remember telling my dad that Mendelsohn was a plink-plonk merchant in my younger days. Can't quite see why now but maybe I've mellowed.

ah Einaudi - we call it the 'watching paint dry' music in our house.

DD (2) can sing the Largo from the New World Symphony and various other classical tunes.

I want a piano....
Can't afford and don't have room. A few years ago my dad found me a second hand yamaha keyboard thing - twice the size of a piano and not the same. He couldn't see why I wasn't that grateful. Hideous thing took up almost the entire dining room.

When I move to my big house I am going to by a beautiful piano.

Mind you then I have to learn how to play something more advanced than chopsticks. Learned as a child but gave it up...along with the violin and the guitar. One of my regrets. Anyone managed to learn to play as an adult?
