Oh I lurrrve him and I'm 44, perhaps it's an age thing?

What are you listening to?

Iklboo · 30/10/2007 13:36

Nowt wrong with that. I love a bit of opera myself, Carl Orff, Holst Planet Suite. Good on ya

OrmIrian · 30/10/2007 13:44

Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini. Just wonderful....

Ooh I LOVE that! Gimes me goosebumps every time (although my mum insists it's "the theme from somewhere in time" (soppy film with christopher reeve). I mean, yes it IS used in the film, but it's not CALLED that!

lilibet · 30/10/2007 13:48

I am taking that to my desert island when Kirsty Young asks me to be on Desert Island Discs

OrmIrian · 30/10/2007 13:49

LOL! Films are sooo much more important than classical music after all. I beleive some Rach was used in Brief Encounter.

I'm 40 and have loved his music for a long time. I remember when I was a student one of my more intellectual friends said, "Rachmaninov? He's a bit obvious isnt he?"!

MrsBadger · 31/10/2007 16:41

not as obvious as Mozart...

Rach, Prok & Tchai
brainless bliss

lilibet · 31/10/2007 19:43

I wantd to walk up the aisle to the Rach vespers, but as it was only 23 steps long.....................

harpsicorpsecarrier · 31/10/2007 19:45

Rachmaninov is ~marvellous

one of favourite concert memories is playing the clarinet solo in the 2nd symphony a couple of years ago

i have a recording of that performance, but am not listening as will remind me of how out of practice i now am

another rach lover here

I hope I never grow out of it!!!

IntergalacticWarlock · 31/10/2007 22:17

I lurve Rach.

Piano Conc 2 reminds me of a very nice man I used to, ahem, visit occasionally when I actually had half a career in music as opposed to dabbling, like wot I do now.....

IntergalacticWarlock · 31/10/2007 22:18

Bach is my fave though, esp as I am a Cellist.

Am also a sucker for Tchaik, esp symphony 5 (who's got the keeey to the shit house.)

harpsicorpsecarrier · 31/10/2007 22:19

tell us more please
and i will tell you what I can manage to do during the opening movement of St John Passion

IntergalacticWarlock · 31/10/2007 22:21

It's not for a family website

collision · 31/10/2007 22:31

I walked down the aisle to this.

Makes me blub whenever I hear it. Everyone in the church was quiet as the music started and then as the violins start the doors opened and Dad walked me down the aisle.

We walked slowly so I could savour the moment and it was fab!

It is the theme to Somewhere in Time too!!!!
