Cod - you are baffling me.
Is your point that works of fiction should not centre on witches? Or feature them in any way?

Where do you stand on things like 'The Witches of Eastwick'? Cher didn't wear a pointy hat or a cloak, did she? Perhaps instead of being withches that darryl whatsit (JN) controls, they should have been 'the call-centre women of eastwick' and how he made them all do odd things like call people about conservatories and £800 vacuum cleaners and pyramid selling scams.

I went to see it with Ulysees last year before the Xmas Meet up.. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

"I hate witches and goblin shit"

SpookyMadMummy · 10/09/2007 16:06

no goblins though!!

Marina · 10/09/2007 16:06

I had no idea this was based on a book , what, a prequel to The Wizard of Oz I assume?
I saw an except on the Oliviers I think. Good singing and staging but the score wasn't my kind of music theatre to be honest.
Batters, have you taken your dd to the 39 Steps yet btw (or your ds blu). Ds nearly combusted with laughter

Blu · 10/09/2007 16:06

Twig - surely that should be "" ?

Blu · 10/09/2007 16:07

oooh - would 39 Steps be the right age group for DS? >

Cappuccino · 10/09/2007 16:10

Marina yes it is a prequel

we find out why the Wicked Witch of the West was so annoyed about the shoes

it was because her sister had no arms

and because her lover was bludgeoned to death in a flat

Marina · 10/09/2007 16:12

Capp, you should write programme notes
Blu, take him quick before it transfers to Broadway. I think he's just about the right age. Fabulous nonsense

Blu · 10/09/2007 16:16

Patrick Barlow is a genius....
Do you need to have read the book? (DS hasn't...but we could)

Gobbledigook · 10/09/2007 16:33

Ooh, I'm glad there are others that love it. My brother told me about it because he went with his girlfriend - he is SO not into musicals - no way would I have thought he'd go to a show like this but he loved it.

Anyway, each to their own but I now have defying gravity as my ringtone

Feel the retro vibe both! It was written by a rank Imperialist, of course .
One of you needs to be vaguely familiar with the plot if only to chortle at how cleverly they have taken all the best bits from the Hitchcock film. The programme has some excellent notes on this.
