Mine was The Faraway Tree series.

According to my parents I used to force them to read the same book over and over again when I was little - and I'd correct them if they tried to skip bits. It was called The Dragon of the Blue Mountain (or something like that) - does anyone else remember it/know where I might get it as my old book mysteriously disappeared... I had loads of other favourites as I got older, including most of the books already mentioned in this thread! (yes, I was a bookworm too - still am!)

kleggie · 03/11/2005 21:25

Good idea Roosmoo! See you there?!?...

wavingordrowning · 03/11/2005 22:18

Little White Horse...fab that this is named by so many. Can't wait for dd to be old enough to read it. Also relieved to see that lots of others re-read childrens' books. Christine Pullein Thompson. The Singing Tree. Malcolm Saville. The House of Sixty Fathers. I am David. The Silver Sword. Moondial. The Himself books (about an Irish terrier).

wavingordrowning · 03/11/2005 22:20

Oh, forgot one of my all time favourites: Violet Needham.

expatinscotland · 03/11/2005 22:21

teeavee · 03/11/2005 23:34

sounds interesting kleggie - I'm a bit envious of you studes, actually - I would love to go back and study literature again - I'm sure I'd be that much more erudite and dedicated as a mature student!!!!

Another Moomin fan here.

fsmail · 04/11/2005 09:48

I really liked the Chrysalids by John Wyndham because I was a sad sci fi freak.

JonesTheSteam · 04/11/2005 09:53

jura - Was it part of this trilogy by Peter Dickinson?

I had these as a child - forgotten all about them 'til you mentioned them - did enjoy them, but not my favourites!!!

acnebride · 04/11/2005 10:00

aaah moomins - didn't understand a word but so what! and The Rescuers series, esp Miss Bianca in the Salt Mines. I was just telling DH about Heartsease the other day, we were discussing life after the oil runs out. Professor Branestawm anybody? (unreadable as an adult I find unfortunately) and thanks for mentioning I am David (far from unreadable).

i did have homework at primary school - at the age of five I had to find a picture of a duck and bring it in. I thought it was hard

Nightynight · 04/11/2005 11:55

I loved it - and my mother didnt want me to read it because she thought I would be scared! She never had any faith in me

Skyler · 04/11/2005 12:12
