I would like some indication of how many people still buy a physical book, in preference to an e book.

Yep, only buy physical copies. Have not and will never use an ebook…but then I work in a bookshop! Long live the book…!

AnApparitionQuipped · 29/10/2022 19:41

Yes, but mainly second hand.

NancyJoan · 29/10/2022 19:41

Yes, a couple every month.

Swissnotswiss · 29/10/2022 19:42

Yes, but also ebooks.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 29/10/2022 19:42

I do, I love books. I spend my working week in front of a screen - don't want to do it in my spare time too.

BobStrangeNameforaGirl · 29/10/2022 19:44

Yes. I prefer to read a book than a screen. I also enjoy audio books while cleaning etc.

LeafHunter · 29/10/2022 19:44

Yes, but rarely new.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 29/10/2022 19:45

Yes. And lovely hardbacks too. Books are my main indulgence. I'm a right sucker for a beautiful cover and sprayed edges. Add a signature and I'll throw my money at you.

I have not bought a fiction ebook for a long time. I have however recently discovered buying non fiction for work or uni as ebooks as the ability to highlight sections and then bring up anything I've highlighted easily is very handy.

janeseymour78 · 29/10/2022 19:45

Me!

Lcb123 · 29/10/2022 19:46

Sometimes, depends on the book. If I do, usually 2nd hand

PostAndGhost · 29/10/2022 19:46

I only buy physical books.
Paperback . Hardback. I tried audiobooks, but the voice of the reader often annoys me, so physical book it is.

AuntieLoll · 29/10/2022 19:51

Never ebooks. Either paperback or wait for the library. Will happily purchase hardbacks of much loved collections or a book I want desperately on launch day.

RandomUsernameHere · 29/10/2022 19:56

No, I like having everything on my Kindle, especially when I go away!

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 29/10/2022 19:58

Had a kindle, it was forced on me by my well meaning DH. I got rid of it and when we moved to a bigger house I treated us (me) to two huge bookcases that I have to regularly cull. I love a real book. The excitement, but also the sadness and seeing how close you are to the end!

Snugglemonkey · 29/10/2022 20:03

Not at the minute. I much prefer a physical book but often I am reading in the dark lying next to a DC, so my kindle is so handy for that.

BertieBotts · 29/10/2022 20:04

Snugglemonkey, same here.

Needmorelego · 29/10/2022 20:04

I do buy paperbacks. Although sometimes as the length of time between hardback and paperback release means a new release book that I like the look of I have sometimes forgotten about by the time the paperback is finally released.
Skip the hardback edition !

EndlessMagpies · 29/10/2022 20:05

I like to buy something tangible that I can physically hold in my hand, rather than something that exists only in the ether.

Bideshi · 29/10/2022 20:08

Always books. Tried a kindle and hated it. Audio books are only for long solo car journeys. The concrete physicality of the book is part of the pleasure of reading for me.

consideringachange · 29/10/2022 20:11

Yes I still buy a lot of books of many genres, and a mixture of new and secondhand. I use ebooks very little.

Redsockwhitewash · 29/10/2022 20:11

Yes, yes, yes! I’m an English graduate and bookaholic. I buy about a book a week on average (don’t quite manage to read one a week though, so I’m always piling up books on the TBR pile). I only buy brand new paperbacks, literary fiction. The joy of fresh, unread pages, the smell of the paper, the feeling as you work your way through it as the spine gets wrinkly. I put my name on the first page and the year, like a schoolgirl. And I don’t use bookmarks, I fold the corner of the page down so there is a physical trace of me working my way through them.

Reading is my only hobby that I manage to fit in with small children and a full on job, so I’m practically religious about it…

ChimpyChops · 29/10/2022 20:12

Yes, usually second hand unless I've been given a voucher or really want to read a new one that is out.

ChessieFL · 29/10/2022 20:13

Yes, loads!

AdInfinitum12 · 29/10/2022 20:15

I was a staunch paperback fan, usually second hand from charity shops though rather than brand new. As a fast reader who travels a lot for work I have now switched to a Kindle Paperwhite, purely down to space for 3-4 books per week and tbh I'm loving the ease and mobility of the Kindle.

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 29/10/2022 20:18

Yes but also ebooks for my kindle, I like to have both
