Hello

Is anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year?
I'm going to start it at least & hopefully finish it. I've got characters swirling around in my head at the moment & some glimpse of a possible plot...

OP posts:

Turnip, my NaNo effort from last year is still short 1500 words short and I haven't looked at it since. :(
Lots of research for my book as I'm including what I hope are interesting snippets about all the places we went.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 19/11/2012 16:40

Oh, that's a pity FiveHoursSleep. Did you lose faith in it? If you are that close to the end you could do it in a single session!

FlyingAardvark · 19/11/2012 17:26

It's a problem I have, NNWM gives me a deadline which helps me stop procrastinating and get the work done. I'm okay with writing first drafts as that's the fun part but when it comes to rewrites and editing I could do with a deadline. Telling myself I need to get so much done in so much time is never the same.

GrendelsMum · 19/11/2012 20:06

Yes, I find I really need the external discipline as well. Which is why I've found writing classes so helpful, actually - it's another thing you have to produce a certain amount of writing for, except that you have to produce something you're happy to share with others and have criticised!

I'm still on track - but I'll be glad when December comes!

FiveHoursSleep · 19/11/2012 21:58

No, it's a good story and I had a great ending but I kept putting off finishing it and now I've forgotten it.
Once I've finished this years effort, I'm going back to it because it had potential!

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 20/11/2012 09:56

Having trouble concentrating this morning. I've got to 20k and the rebellion has just begun so it ought to be exciting. Time for Write Or Die I think....

GrendelsMum · 20/11/2012 22:31

Write or Die is the answer to it all!

Who else is still going? Time for a roll call and a cheer to everyone for all their hard work so far, I think!

I've just crashed through the 35,000 word barrier, so from now on its all downhill.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 20/11/2012 22:40

23k.
Well done on 35! How long is your whole thing going to be?

GrendelsMum · 20/11/2012 22:51

Congrats Tunip!

I'm aiming for 50k in November, and then we'll see what happens after that!

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 21/11/2012 09:52

Doubtless the reason why no-one else has answered the roll-call yet is that everyone is busy working really hard and writing Smile.
I am thinking I might aim for 50k and try and do this properly, having started late and set myself the target of 25k but got there (nearly) with comparative ease.

I've just taken my heroine to my favourite pizzeria. She won't get to have a pizza though, because they haven't been invented yet - it's in a glorious medieval house in York and I needed a house in 16th c York for her to stay overnight in so I thought I might as well use that one.

FlyingAardvark · 21/11/2012 13:54

I'm not doing so well, not because I'm struggling with the story but because when I do find time to sit down and write I end up falling asleep. I'm still on track though thanks to my good start and nearly at 35k. I have nothing to do today after picking DD up from school so shouldn't be so tired this evening and can get some writing done.

LoopsInHoops · 21/11/2012 14:09

Feeling ill. Today might be my first under par :(

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 21/11/2012 14:22

Hope you feel better soon Loops. Don't push yourself too hard if you are feeling ill - any words you can write are better than none but go easy on the target.

Engelsemama · 21/11/2012 14:59

I'm on 26,000 but am really aiming to get to 50k by the end of the month - just need to catch up a bit (but reports and wedding weekends are over so am hoping to get focused again over the next week). I can do it!

Well done to everyone who's hanging in there! I have never written this much in my life - never even attempted to write a novel even though I've been saying I will for years.

This is my year - and it's all thanks to NaNo Grin

GrendelsMum · 21/11/2012 22:03

Congratulations to Flying Aardvark, still well on target at 35k already!

Congratulations to LoopsInHoops, writing to target for a grand total of 20 days non-stop!

Congratulations to Engelsemama who is on a terrific 26,000 - her biggest writing challenge ever!

Keep going everyone, and don't forget to reward yourself for all your brilliant creative effort.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 21/11/2012 22:36

Nice to have some cheerleading, GrendelsMum Smile

I'm so tired now from writing in every single spare moment when I'm not looking after the children and quite a few when I am, and a lot of my writing feels quite ploddy, then I have one of those moments where I think of something that had not occurred to me before and it's just so exciting! Or else I blink and realise I've been so absorbed in it I've written 1500 words without pausing.

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 21/11/2012 22:39

I'd quite like to know how SolidGoldBrass's porno is coming along (I assume that's what she's writing.)

FlyingAardvark · 21/11/2012 23:37

37k! Finally got a good chunk of writing done, had to stop myself in the end as need to go to bed, but have plenty still to do tomorrow. Don't feel as though I'm running out of steam anymore.

Well done everyone still going!

I think DH is a bit sick of doing most of the housework this month, I did warn him it would suffer in November as usual!

Penelope1980 · 22/11/2012 07:04

Today is the day when I get back on track! Visitors, a badly sleeping baby and sickness have meant I haven't written in a week. Eeek! Today though ... (I say optimistically..)

Penelope1980 · 22/11/2012 07:58

Just wrote 1000 words, bring my total to 33,860 and my NaNo November words to c 15 000. Hurrah! Hopefully this means my mid-November writing drought is over!

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 22/11/2012 09:22

Congratulations Penelope! Hope the words continue to flow for you!

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 22/11/2012 11:49

I'm finally having to take a break. DH is away, DS1 has been waking up for the last two nights with night terrors, I'm so tired I'm having trouble putting one word in front of the other Sad
I'm at 27.5k though so I might still get there.

LoopsInHoops · 22/11/2012 14:27

Back on track and over the sacred line on the graph - just!

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 22/11/2012 19:32

Well done Loops!

Engelsemama · 22/11/2012 20:41

Thanks for the encouragement grendelsmum Smile

had a bit of a wobble last night so did nothing (again) but have just done 2,000 words so now on 28,000. Have to write an average of 2,400 per day to win - I can do it!
