Rainbowandgrey · 08/12/2024 20:14

Oh thanks, I’d never have guessed that!😁

Havalona · 08/12/2024 20:33

D'Olier Street is named after Jeremiah D'Olier. He was a Huguenot who came to Ireland along with many others following the religious persecution of the Protestants in France. He was a goldsmith, the city sheriff, and one of the founders of the Bank of Ireland. The Huguenots are renowned for their business acumen particularly in banking. There is a Huguenot cemetery just of Stephen's Green (in Dublin).

Was the greasy spoon May’s Cafe? Right across from the Bleeding Horse pub? Many an early morning was spent there after a night on the tiles! It’s long gone now.

YES!!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 09/12/2024 17:16

I'm not a Dub but spent a few years there in late 90s early 2000s. This is making me so nostalgic!! 46A RIP.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/12/2024 22:26

Me too bruce. Fond memories.

Because it's good to be realistic.

Dublin city has got worse and worse. So many people in Ireland say that.

Crime. Smell of piss everywhere . Fights. Druggies everywhere.

People crammed onto busses. People screaming and arguing on the buses.

The Dart is always delayed

Ah Dublin of the 80s...

Tinyballoffluff · 12/12/2024 00:15

Not been back since 2005 and trying to remember the name of a theatre which opened after hours into a bar. There was a lot of red! Any thoughts?

Yes late night at the gaiety. It was mad, films going on, art shows, bar, nightclub all under one roof. I have a memories of them showing Rocky and everyone running up and down the aisles during the scene where he runs up the steps it was chaos

Dulra · 13/12/2024 09:41

My memories is that Dublin in the 90s was the best time bar none. So many young people out having a good time, I have very little memory of much trouble, clubs such as the Ormond multimedia centre, Mean Fiddler, Temple of Sound, McGonagles, the place down the quays can't remember name now, the Pod, The kitchen. Madness on the nitelinks home. People beginning to have money but nothing too expensive yet. Temple bar pre-stag do era

I worked in Bewleys on Grafton St when I was a student at the time they opened all night at weekends it was chaos but such fun.
