Coolock has also taken in asylum seekers from Ukraine & many other areas. Who here would be happy to take 500+ in an area with nothing for them to do & nowhere to go where access to public services are already breaking.

Happening all over the place. Recently in Drogheda around that many have allegedly been placed in the only hotel in the place. I have heard nothing about it since then.

Exactly this, it’s absolutely disgraceful that people are being castoff as criminals and racist for objecting, if people are so in favour of this buildings housing 10’’s & 100’s of male economic migraints why don’t you offer to put them up in large disused buildings on your doorsteps.

I live in an area with many hostels

VaddaABeetch · 21/07/2024 19:15

For those of you saying they’re thugs with no jobs can you not see the irony.

All the industry that provided jobs in Coolock has closed. Tayto, Chivers, Crown. Cadburys much reduced staff.

Here is some information about the site and its owners. Makes interesting reading. Some will say "oh that's Gript, I'd never read that, it's far right etc.", however, they are one of the few media outlets that actually reports on controversial issues and names names. I don't recall any other media in Ireland giving this information. But I could be wrong. I am not Right Wing at all, but I get my information from various sources, and as long as I am informed I am not worried about what someone else tells me I should and shouldn't use as my sources. Anyway - for those who are not afraid to read John McGuirk's publication.....

Owners of proposed Coolock asylum centre have pocketed more than €38 million since 2021 - Gript

One of Townbe owners lives in Switzerland, Far From the Madding Crowd. MATT TREACY on the company behind the proposed Coolock asylum centre which has pocketed more than €38 million for asylum services since 2021.

0.6% of the UK are asylum seekers, stats show they commit
14.3% of all crimes against life (murders, manslaughter etc)
12.2% if sexual offences
11.4% of thefts
9.7% of body injuries
Maybe that's why they are a bit sad about it!

Don't look like the 'racist unemployed thugs' the media & gardai would like you to believe.

I am fairly sure she does not work. She is also a complete racist and mouth almighty has nothing on her. She would give Mary Lou a run for her mouth.

Psychoticbreak · 21/07/2024 22:30

Nice to see they mentioned peaceful and protest a few times while all of them recording it. The garda are only there because of the unpeaceful parts of the protests the other day. There was a woman LOUDLY effing and blinding out of her in my local shop the other day about it at the till in lidl. Did not give a shite there were small kids there not wanting to hear her mouth off and her vile language but she is another 'pillar of the community' at the initial 'peaceful protest'. He who shouts louder and all that.

Peridot1 · 22/07/2024 10:00

I’m from Coolock. Diagonally across the road from Crown Paints in fact. Emigrated to the UK in the 80s. Never needed any social help in the UK but was fed up ending up on the dole in Dublin getting made redundant.

Coolock has always been a deprived area to an extent but there were jobs but a lot of them have gone now. In fact when I was looking for jobs after I left school I never put Coolock on my CV as you just wouldn’t get an interview.

I think putting 500 asylum seekers in any one area is asking for trouble. But especially an area like Coolock. What are 500 unemployed people going to actually do all day? The young men are very likely to just end up hanging around. You see it in other areas.

All my family and friends in the area were mortified about the protests last week. They don’t want 500 asylum seekers but not because they are racist. Because the area can’t support it. Like anywhere housing is in short supply. Jobs are in short supply. School places. Doctors hospitals etc. Peaceful protest is one thing and would have been understood and supported. But as we saw with the riots in November peaceful protest has been hijacked by the far right - Tommy Robinson and his like were posting on social media about it. And then you get the local thugs. And an awful lot of the trouble last week was local thugs Just out for a fight. You just had to see the addresses of those up in court on Monday night. Just like those who looted in the city centre in November. Those looting and stealing trainers and cigarettes in November were not interested in what happened to those poor children in Parnell Square. They just wanted to cause trouble.

Agree with all this. I’m guessing you’re from Moatfield Peridot1.

I believe there’s lots going on the country that the media is trying to paint as black & white, far right, far left. The terms are becoming meaningless. It creates division & doesn’t address the issues.

Peridot1 · 22/07/2024 12:58

Dunree @VaddaABeetch. Are you local too?

Agree with you. But when have they ever actually addressed the issues in a sensible manner?!

A massive social housing building project is needed similar to what was done in the 50s. But what happens? Building happens and the houses/apartments are sold off to foreign investors. Mortgages are sold to vulture funds. It’s complete madness. Apparently the apartments being built on the Oscar Traynor and which will be “affordable housing” will be more expensive than normal not “affordable housing” apartments in Carrickmines. You couldn’t make it up.

But 500 were put into a hotel in Drogheda and I work up that way twice a week and see nothing unless I am totally blinkered.

VaddaABeetch · 22/07/2024 13:08

@Peridot1 I’m from Tonlegee rd. it sounds we’re of an age too! I agree on the housing situation too, bringing more people into an area already bursting at the seams with lots of social issues. What could go wrong?

@Psychoticbreak because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. East Wall has had more than its share of issues. Drogheda is also a whole town, Coolock is a housing estate.

The media shy away from any ‘negative’ reports.

Peridot1 · 22/07/2024 13:13

@Psychoticbreak - are they spread around the town or in one building on the side of the main road?

@VaddaABeetch - we may know each other!

Psychoticbreak · 22/07/2024 13:18

In the one and only hotel in the middle of Drogheda - the D hotel.

When people were protesting about the 500 asylum seekers going into the D Hotel they were told the hotel's public areas would remain open for the locals to use as well but a couple of weeks later Roderic O'Gorman said it wasn't safe so closed it to the public.

Marblessolveeverything · 22/07/2024 21:06

Pennyswimsplash · 20/07/2024 20:25

From the reports I've seen the communities have had enough of young males descending in their towns & feel they & their families are not safe as well as the fact that tax payers money is being spent to keep them.

Eh nope. It is local and imported scum, some far reaching UK grown scum and some right winged people stirring up some vulnerable individuals.

It isn't being discussed because the active approach now is to starve the story to try and prevent the action escalating.

Marblessolveeverything · 22/07/2024 21:07

BocaChica · 20/07/2024 21:27

"Maybe they should build some of these multi occupancy houses / buildings around Dublin 4...."

I think that you will find at least one D4 office block is now housing such people

WRT Coolock : around the corner from that building the old Data Products unit has been in use for a similar purpose for a number of years

No it is a salvation army project of predominantly young Irish families.

Ireland is at full employment there are significant jobs available and endless free education and training opportunities. Trust me it is pure bullshit. The area is rife with generational of dole at 18 and them screaming for their rights.

I would love to see many of the faces involved to be vetted as they have long history of "being known" to the Garda.

IfYouEscapeTheLionsDenDontGoBackForYourHat · 22/07/2024 21:20

I've been discussing it. Why do the government have no plan? Legal migration ceded to the EU recently, and no control over illegal migration. I support the people of coolock! They aren't thugs. Who would want 500 mostly Muslim single men in a warehouse near them.

I just cannot understand why the government doesn't care, does nothing, hands over to the EU (Denmark opted out of the EU migration pact)

Simon Harris is gaslighting us and offering no indication of what the government's thinking is. We are thugs, racists, far right if we object. I'm very upset.

We have all seen how this DOES NOT WORK. France, Denmark, Sweden, Britain know this. I naively thought Ireland would learn from this, but no.

It's do depressing

They aren't thugs? They have set fire to buildings assaulted Gardai. While wearing balaclavas and harassing anyone on their way their. Plenty of well known scumbags with plenty of time spent in Mount joy. The original protesters want nothing to do with them.

They are holding many neighbourhoods to ransom for over a week. I fully support any necessary force to remove them. There are legitimate protests daily this isn't one.

This is what we know but arent allowed to say!! Why do our government want this for us??

Whoever said the strategy is to starve the story is right. If it weren't for youtubers filming it Simon Harris wouldn't even have taken the time to tell us it was a few people thinking they could do what they liked. That sounds familiar.

Agree that things are v polarised woke elite think they're full of empathy not objecting to illegal migrants, but they are more protected from the repercussionss of 500+ illegal migrants stuffed into every hotel.
