Washing machine - Best / Worst

When I got my washing machine I told the plumber the previous one had lasted 11 years . ' Well this one won't ' he predicted. I got it BC - before Covid but not that long before and its just gone kerblooey so he was right.

It was a Nordmende and the previous one was Indesit fwiw. I'm getting conflicting advice now. One friends advising me to just get the cheapest one as they all blow up after 5 years.
Another suggests Bosch , very expensive but pays for itself ? Any experiences and advice appreciated.

Ps I put this in Craicnet as I'm not sure we'd have the same models as the UK exactly

My mum had a Miele that she gave to my best friend when she moved house. I think it's about 15 years old now, maybe older and still going strong! They are v pricey though. We've got a Samsung Ecobubble which I like and haven't had any problems with in the 3 years we've had it. It needed a new seal fairly recently but that was apparently our own fault for damaging it!

My Bosch lasted twenty years and I’ve just got another.

My Miele died last year at 19 years of age but my appliance man told me not to bother getting another as they aren't as good nowadays, are very expensive and just don't last that long. As both my miele fridge and vacuum cleaner suffered expensive melt downs and died at only a few years of age I believed him and bought a Haier which has been fine to date. It cost about £500 I think.

Bosch just runs and runs. What ever you buy make sure you get a model with a brushless motor. The best thing to happen in washing machines for decades.

Ive had 2 Siemens washers in 20 years and 2 Siemens dryers. The first washing machine was better and got to 14 years, but this one is still going strong. For the medium-high pricing I think theyre really good value for money. Friends pay half for cheaper brands but have to replace everty 2/3 years.

Used to have a Miele that exDP still has. We bought it in 2002 when I was pregnant with DC1. Still going strong even though it has had an absolute beating.

I am not in NI (or even in the Northern Hemisphere) but what ever you decide on, have a look at how long the programs are first. Is there a quick wash?

I had a Miele, which saw the end of its life after 20 odd years, and I couldn't really afford to replace it with another Miele. So I bought a Samsung. How I hated that machine. I was used to using a short wash (30 mins) for most washes and was used to my system of getting all the washing done on certain mornings. This scuppered that as it just took so bloody long to wash.

I ended up selling the Samsung and got another Miele which I was so lucky to find, it was a showroom demo so was going for a lot less. Now I am happy again.

The place I bought it said the same as pp. Just get the entry level model of which ever you decide on. There is just more to go wrong on fancier ones. I also didn't want the twin dos nonsense, I just want to put powder in the draw like I always have. Only the entry level of Miele seems to have this option when I got this one.

Good luck. Its terrible not having a working machine, and even worse trying to find a replacement these days from all the options.

I've had two bosches in 20 years.

My latest is from 2018, going strong. I keep it clean, have a water softener and really no problems.

lapochette · 06/05/2024 11:37

Miele is the best I've had without a doubt.

Radyward · 06/05/2024 12:56

Miele - absolutely amazing. In 15 yrs and still going strong. It was close to 1000 euro so god knows what they are now. Worth every penny

If there's anyone with a washer/dryer all in one type machine that lasted them a long time please do share.

Update. The local stores are tied into Nordmende and Beko respectively. I bought an 8kg Beko. 399eu. It does have a quick wash cycle thank god. Somewhat noisier than advertised but seems OK otherwise. Now to get started on thar mound of manky washing....

I send you the ancient Culchie benediction for new purchases: Health to wash! 😊😄

FWIW my Beko dishwasher works better than any other dishwasher I've ever encountered. It cleans and dries dishes perfectly, better than the Miele and Siemens dishwashers which cost tons more. It's on year 6 and still doing its job well. I hope the same will be said of your washing machine!

KitchenSinkLlama · 10/05/2024 12:25

I have two washing machines. Both Siemens. One is 15 years old and the other is 10. I've never had a moments trouble with either of them.

lucette1001 · 01/06/2024 13:17

I bought a new Miele as my old one lasted 15 years. The new one stopped working after 3 years and our local appliance mender says it was the electronics board which he can't fix. Rang Miele who say only their own engineers can do it, and you have to pay £247 to get them to call. If they can fix it, that goes towards the repair, if they can't it will go towards a new Miele. I am going to buy a cheaper machine, costing less than the Miele call out fee. Even if it doesn't last long I won't have wasted my money.

We've got a candy which is excellent but the best bit for us is that I pay ~£5 a month for their cover and if it ever goes wrong we just ring them up and they fix it for free. If they can't fix it they replace with a new one. Can't recommend it enough!

What model number is your Candy washing machine I am looking for a new washer thanks

SallyWD · 22/01/2025 21:26

We got a Bosch in 2010 and it's still going strong. It's brilliant. I can stuff loads of clothes in, wash at 30 and it's all perfectly cleaned. When it finally dies, I'm definitely getting another Bosch.
