Anyone watching?
I thought the home in Co. Clare was robbed of a place in the final.
It was stunning.

Just caught up with it on player.

I could not believe the 1st house, it's difficult for me to imagine someone could love that style and spend good money on it ! I was expecting to come across those rooms with tons of spooky china dolls like you see in US movies. You would expect the owner to be very flamboyant if that is her style, but she wasn't remotely flamboyant at all. I laughed at how stunned they all were when they walked in, could not believe Hugh gave it a 10. The bones of the house itself is stunning and would be a dream home with a classic contemporary interior.

Of the three of them, the 3rd would have been my choice, I loved the exterior of the cottage but the interior design wasn't so great.

Celeriacisquitenice · 02/03/2024 02:09

I really loved the colour palette in the cottage.
I think the very positive comments all the judges gave re the owners skill should help his photography business!
The third house was lovely too. Very Dermot Bannon I agree but I liked some of the wallpapers and colours there too.
The first was so very individual. Beautiful house, a bit too much for me inside but I did admire it still. Great to do your own thing. They must be v rich though!

themessygarden · 06/03/2024 19:54

Episode 3😮all far too much of an over the top mish mash for my liking.

Celeriacisquitenice · 06/03/2024 19:59

No, not mad about them.

LadyEloise1 · 07/03/2024 09:10

I did think the first house was lovely.

A burglar's dream though, especially with the easily accessible roof light open as it was as the judges observed the house before entering it. Shock

Not mad about any of them tonight though the 'bones' of House no 2 were stunning. I thought 1 was a bit tacky and no 3 a bit cold and hard.

Countmeout · 07/03/2024 20:47

I didn’t like 1. Number 2 didn’t give me the dusting anxiety of the first week in fact I quite liked it. I’ve forgotten what 3 was 😬not sure what that says.

HellersK · 07/03/2024 22:04

Surprised that I didn't like any of the houses on episode 3. There's usually at least one I am mad jealous of like.

LadyEloise1 · 13/03/2024 18:11

Loved house 1 on Tuesday's show.

It was the best of the three, I didn’t love any of them, I love the building of the first house but did not like the black kitchen.. also did you see the brown recliner type chair in the hall, no one is ever going to use that, just very a expensive decoration!

Yes, they were all awful, especially the bad taste bungalow that was full of horrible blingy ornaments and giant walk-in wardrobes. The rectory had gorgeous bones, and the drawing room was lovely, but the rest had been subject to the female owner’s ’I’m zany, me!’ taste. (From the clip we saw of the couple, it looked like he just went along with the horror.) And the Cork one just seemed poorly thought-out, unnecessarily huge empty spaces and then cramped functional spaces, and presumably deafening with no carpets, curtains, rugs etc to absorb sound.

themessygarden · 13/03/2024 20:15

Where are they finding these houses? Four episodes in and none of the houses would even remotely be classed as a home of the year in my opinion.

The Waterford one was the best of a bad lot, I did like their living room with the bay windows but didn't love how they had furnished it and the brown recliner in the hallway was far too big for the space, it looked like they just didn't have room for it with the rest of the sofa in the living room, so just put it out there.

Countmeout · 14/03/2024 08:52

This week, for me , the one I liked best was the period renovation. I loved the feel of the kitchen and love green. The winner was too dark in the kitchen for me and I don’t like dark islands/ work tops. The middle one gave me dusting anxiety again.

@themessygarden I suppose they rely on people putting their homes forward and not everyone would want to do that.

It's so subjective though @themessygarden.
I watch the show and wonder where they are finding all these lovely houses and how lucky their occupants are. 🙂

Does anyone know where that brown leather recliner was from? It was literally the only thing I liked about that house, which I found stagy and self-conscious. I’d probably hole up there in the hall and read.

In the fourth episode I liked the Galway house where they’d dug out a basement most, but the bit I liked most in that house was the nice, smallish front room in the old part of the house. I appreciate that the entire basement was for triplets who are going to be teens before too long, but having two tiny basement bedrooms with no windows seemed very claustrophobic — I wondered if there were plans to house them upstairs eventually? Though giving them their own living room in the basement suggested not…?

The only house so far this series I really like is Ian Humphrey and his partner’s west Cork converted school house.

LadyEloise1 · 14/03/2024 10:35

I pass a house local to me most days that was on the show and always think the owner was robbed.
She didn't even get to the final and the house is fabulous.

I wonder if it’s Ligne Roset, they have something similar.

TooningOut · 14/03/2024 11:59

I wasn't keen on no1; I really don't like black in interiors and it was all a bit too trendy for me.

I loved the 17th?/18thC house but I wondered if there was something negative about it that wasn't shown because it scored quite badly. The garden was luscious.

3 was a bit pretentious and I felt sorry for the kids with their weency cave-like bedrooms 😆

theleafandnotthetree · 14/03/2024 13:56

I also really disliked the first house, it was far too self consciously 'designed', almost like a tick box exercise and veering towards the tacky for me. Made me think of a posh hotel in Mayfair rather than a place real people would live. The middle one was a delightful setting and seemed very charming, the low score also made me wonder was there something of putting they didn't mention. House 3 was very light and bright and closest to my own tastes, I love plain white walls and colour brought in through paintings and accessories. I would have given it the highest score

From what I could work out the parents bedroom was at the top of the house and the kids rooms were in the basement. I wouldn't like to be so far away from young kids myself, though probably delightful for the teenage stage ( though very easy for them to sneak out!). A lovely house but not a layout I would choose.

themessygarden · 24/03/2024 18:54

Episode 5, I loved the kitchen/ living are in the 2nd house, while open plan, the living area was still a little out of the way, deserved to go forward to the final. I think that is my favourite home so far. 3rd house was lovely too, another great kitchen area.

I really never knew that maximalism was a thing until this series, but clearly there are a lot of people out there who love that style, I find it too quirky and overwhelming for my taste.

LadyEloise1 · 26/03/2024 07:41

Anyone watching The Great House Revival with Hugh Wallace on RTE tv ?
Or James Kavanagh and his partner on The Great Inspo Home Adventure on Virgin Media One ?
More property porn 😂

Me @LadyEloise1 , I’ve just started The Great House Revival on RTE player.

Not got far yet. I have a thing for Hugh Wallace’s shirt 😳. Hope to watch the rest today.

DH and I watched the first episode of the Great House Revival. It’s a gorgeous house, the couple were lovely, and it was impossible not to admire their ‘Ah lads, we’ll have a go’ spirit, but, while some of the renovation was lovely (the green ‘snug’), some of it was awful — taking out the hall so that the front door opened straight into the main living room was a mystifyingly bad move, and I’m with Hugh on wall-mounted tvs hung at a neck-cricking level above fireplaces.

I figure the producers deliberately go out looking for maximalists to blow Amanda’s mind.😀
