What a brave, brave woman. What courage and what a role model. Have just read her interview with Rodney Edward's having previously read her Facebook post.
She was let down by so many not least the PSNI, Gardaí, GAA and others.
Her 'husband' in all his statements has not denied any of what she has said. My gut is telling me that when this story finally unfolds there will be massive implications not only for the above organisations but also social services and others.
Thank you Nicola

I do hope some well known men will speak out loudly against domestic violence but I won't hold my breath.
Why would an abusive man get custody ?

She had an addiction problem.

Annasgirl · 16/05/2023 17:16

It is very easy for an abusive man to continue the abuse by getting custody. The courts do not care that he nearly murdered their mother while she was pregnant - he is still portrayed as a ‘loving father’ 🙄. The bar is set very low in Ireland, I’ll grant you.

I grew up in a house with alcoholism - we were forced to keep it all a secret - I now share it with everyone , I’m not ashamed and I don’t believe the children in this case were well served by silence, since everyone always knows in a small town. Nicola’s issues most certainly derive from him and his treatment of her - I am disgusted at the GAA, but not surprised. I’m also disgusted at the people who still defend him and point to his custody of the children as proof - clearly these people have never experienced coercive control or abuse.

thisisasurvivor · 16/05/2023 17:23

I went to school with Nicola

When I say that many knew she was abused by him I mean it

It was openly talked about

I sat exams with her
Her family tried to help them both
Poor her for what she went through

He is vile beyond belief
Hated by many

Fermanagh GAA knew all about the incidents

Derry gaa knew about it all too

He is awful

Drugs, beatings, affairs
Utter scum

I just hope now the Garda take it up and bring him to court

JaneJeffer · 16/05/2023 18:04

@thisisasurvivor can I just ask, though you may not know, why didn't her family try to get her away from him rather than try to help both of them? I can't understand how they watched her marry him after he had already attacked her so viciously.

powershowerforanhour · 16/05/2023 18:07

"I feel most sorry for the innocent children involved."

I don't really have a hierarchy of sympathy for the people involved but I must say I did feel sorry for the person in the story who was battered, broken, bitten, punched and dragged, starting when she was not much more than a child. Was she not, also, "innocent"?

Also- he's not a good father- he battered the children's mother, ergo he is a shit father.

It seems that She wanted to give him a chance and help him

No one could stop her then

Plus she was too afraid to say the whole story

thisisasurvivor · 16/05/2023 18:47

That doesn't surprise me, shocking as it is.
If this wasn't front and centre of the media he still have his full job, despite everything.

TaraMock · 16/05/2023 20:06

And I think the mainstream media are playing this down too. I had to go looking for it in IT yesterday, I guess it's the age old "yesterday's news". To me it should remain in page 1 until he's been called to account for his actions before a judge and jury. But I feel very strongly about such fuckers facing their comeuppance.

JaneJeffer · 16/05/2023 20:06

He won't be getting paid by the GAA but I don't know how anyone can bear to be near him. It's sickening.

GrazingSheep · 16/05/2023 22:38

Joe Brolly wrote that the Derry players were going to boycott the game against Armagh if he didn’t step down.

thisisasurvivor · 16/05/2023 22:40

Thought he was gods gift

Was training my friends kids a few weeks back
Turned up with a young very pretty girlfriend

Please let he be prosecuted finally

And the gaa can Fck right off

What a bunch of Fckers

GrazingSheep · 16/05/2023 22:44

Did your friends know about him?

thisisasurvivor · 16/05/2023 22:45

Yes!!!!

They all did

More so in past few years
So many knew

It was almost normalised in a way

GrazingSheep · 16/05/2023 22:49

And they were still happy to have him train their children???
They should be hanging their heads in shame 😡

Newmum110 · 16/05/2023 14:50

I mean seeing as he has them full-time. I would hate to think that they weren't being loved on a daily basis.

He broke their Mother through his use of violence and presumably left her unable to care for her children.I don't think that's good parenting in anyone's book.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/05/2023 23:54

The GAA are a fucking disgrace. They need to do some serious work.Hmm

That's good to hear read.

I am sickened by the GAA. The mcfaul player who scored the winning peno last Sunday assaulted someone in america last yr leaving the lad in intensive care. One of the journos/ commentators said he has had such a difficult year - like what!!! Are u having a laugh!!!total disgrace

Radyward · 17/05/2023 18:57

I am from a small parish in the west of ireland and the GAA are struggling to get new players / retain kids to the popularity of Rugby and Soccer..... long may that continue with the carry on of GAA county boards last weekend

thisisasurvivor · 17/05/2023 19:05

Bunch of clowns the lot and f them

Atishoos · 17/05/2023 21:19

Is it true that the GAA have approved transwomen for the female teams? That is a disgrace if true, given all the sporting bodies so far who have said no to trans on women's teams. I never had much time for the GAA, something is off, what do they do with all the gate receipts and loot from concerts in Croker and the grants etc. OK I know they put some into local teams and so on, but the players at senior level are amateurs aren't they?

I agree with others, if I see another death notice saying "he was very highly regarded in his community due to his deep involvement with the local GAA" I will lose it. As if GAA participation makes you a great person ahead of all others. But I suppose that's rural Ireland for ya.
