How do people get 'cheap' holidays

butheahsh · 29/04/2023 15:57

Literally this! How and where do you lovely people source a reasonably priced holiday abroad for 2 adults and 2 kids ages 9
And 11? Every where I try seems extortionate (£5k) but yet people seem to mange to get away. Can anyone guide me please ?

I usually both holidays either two ways:
I use Love Holidays and pay weekly. Love Holidays pay for the flights in the beginning and you can pay off monthly. I usually do it weekly and you don't notice paying it off.

I pay my flights in the beginning and use trip advisor or booking.com and pay my accomadation nearer the time.

It's years since I used a travel agent they are far too dear. The further in advance you book it, its usually cheaper also.

Tazzy.

Book way ahead.
I'm visiting my brother this summer, 2 adults 2 dc, my other brother has spent almost the same on flights for just 2 adults & 1 dc.

SparkyBlue · 01/05/2023 21:55

Holidays are a crazy price this year. Even "cheap" flights are very expensive

LarryStylinson · 01/05/2023 21:58

Have you tried through Jet2?

BendingSpoons · 01/05/2023 22:01

I book way in advance (over a year ahead) with Easyjet holidays. I'm open minded on destination and usually book half board so we don't need to spend much on food once there.

DeeCeeCherry · 01/05/2023 22:04

Book far in advance. & switch to Incognito tab when searching for holidays online otherwise within minutes of you searching, you'll be hit with higher prices

Invisimamma · 01/05/2023 22:17

Jet2...book.18months I'm advance and get free child places. Don't be too fussy about destinations or flight times, also doesn't have to be complete luxury resorts but somewhere clean and family friendly.

We're a family of 4 and have a week in Majorca in October all inclusive for £2k. We went at Easter to Gran Canaria for £2.5k (flew Easter Sunday meant it was slightly cheaper).

A few years ago we would have been about £1500-£1800 but prices have shot up.

HappyAsASandboy · 02/05/2023 08:51

I like Jet2Holidays. I look on there all the time for the dates we could do, and then if the right deal turns up I book it. If not, we holiday in the U.K. again!

We've just had two weeks all inclusive (fabulous hotel!) for £4.5k for 2 adults plus 4 kids. The only thing that wasn't perfect was that both ways were night flights, but we survived and it was worth it to be able to afford to go away!

Radyward · 09/05/2023 22:36

Go on momondo 1 year in advance..put in departing airport and put in to anywhere as a destination and a date range. Choose the least exoensive warnest place you can which is easy given irelands crappy. Weather. Last yr against my better judgement we booked a "top" campsite in spain in july for 4 of us. Omg sooo dear never again. Off to austria for 8 nights to an. Apt with a summer card giving fun/ tourist actvitiee at a reduced rate .so flights car hire and apt all in in july 2300 . We will have to pay a surcharge to bring the car from munich into austria so might be 200 euro extra. We are sooo excite.my kids are 10 and 14.csmpsites too dear now i think
.there is also outside pools with slides locally to our austrian alpine village. All we need is t shirt weather. !! They are out there hols at a cheao price tho they take literally hrs of internettrawling!!

Buddercud · 28/05/2023 08:35

Me and my two teen DS’s are going to Majorca for 6 nights for less than 1500 all inclusive in august. I book in advance, book flights and hotel separately and go for an odd number of nights, it seems to make the flights cheaper. I find it cheaper for the three of us to go abroad than do UK holidays.

FlyingFlipFlops · 28/05/2023 08:50

We’ve booked 2 weeks away at the end of August, lovely family run hotel AI on a Greek Island, it cost £2600. We booked it last year in Nov. Prices have now shot up for the flight/same hotel by about £700(!) so definitely book in advance. (Our kids are pre schoolers so we can book anytime which has kept the cost down)

ohfook · 28/05/2023 08:59

We go with easy jet holidays or jet 2. We rarely fly from our home town and instead look for the cheapest airport, we can't afford to go for more than a week and we stay at 'family run' places ie a bit basic but fine. It's still bloody expensive this year though but when we do all that we get it to under £2k for a family of 4 in august.

ohfook · 28/05/2023 09:00

Ooh yes use incognito too and we book about a year ahead and spend the year paying it off.

surlycurly · 28/05/2023 09:32

I use google flight tracker to find the cheapest flights but you need to give them time to go up and down. I book air bnbs at least 6mths in advance. My DS and I have 11 nights in a brand new apartment with rooftop pool in Marrakesh for £1500 in July. I'm just really careful and plan meticulously.

Was this apartment you found on air b n b?

surlycurly · 28/05/2023 09:57

It was. It's around £900 for the eleven nights

Catingle · 31/05/2023 17:52

I find Airbnb owners often don’t vary their prices that much across the year so if you’re forced to travel at peak times it can be cheaper than packages firms that up their costs massively.

WhatADrabCarpet · 05/06/2023 20:04

Shamelessly place marking.

mumonthehill · 05/06/2023 20:08

Booked easy jet flights to italy when they came out, £220 return for 3 at the end of june. Air b and b for a week £600. Food may add up but feels ok for a summer holiday.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 05/06/2023 20:08

We're going to eurocamp for 9 days in the south of France - three bed mobile home with a/c and WiFi. That is £1900.

We drive there using eurotunnel and then camp in two little tents on two nights on the way. Save on way back.

So that's two weeks for about £2300. We then use our usually grocery/spending money budget and add in whatever else we can afford for treats.

Altogether will cost under £3k

Gooseysgirl · 05/06/2023 20:18

We booked 7 nights in a 2 bed mobile home at a Sandaya campsite in the middle of France for £1240 second last week of August. We used Tesco club card vouchers to bring down the cost of our return ferry journey from £194 to £89. We will have to budget for petrol and groceries, but all in should be well under £2k.

As an aside, anyone looking to use Clubcard vouchers for three times their value needs to do so in the next couple of days as they are reducing to double the amount. It's still a great deal though! We save the vouchers all year and use them towards ferries.

floopyloo · 05/06/2023 20:35

@WhatADrabCarpet
Also shamelessly place marking.
We moved back from Italy four years ago and haven't been abroad since, the prices are absolutely scandalous ( we are teachers)

stayathomer · 22/06/2023 06:49

We book a year in advance, get a loan out and find somewhere not in a popular tourist location. So a eurocamp quite far from Naples this year

mirmc · 30/06/2024 13:15

Are you flying from Dublin? Could you take the kids out of school for a week? No drama like in the UK! Accommodation in June is reasonable. We paid €585 for a huge 2 bed 2 bath aparthotel in Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria. It's still only €1000 in July, as summer is low season in the Canaries. Aer Lingus flights were €275 each, booked as soon as they were released (330 days beforehand). The couple sitting across from us booked their flights last minute and paid €900 each!! Book flights early, get accommodation pay on arrival.

The Sunday Times today,30 June, has an article about booking en suite family rooms in hostels abroad.
