Hi , myself and 3 DC'S (M) are heading to Dublin in July .

Last time we were there they were alot younger and we stayed at Jurry's Inn , Parnell Street .
(In my head ,,at the top of the long road )

My sense of directions and visualisation of distance is terrible .

Anyhow ,,,,this trip will be different ... alcohol will be legal !

Planning on being more down the Temple Bar area..or near.
Any suggestions ?

One that does have a good deal is the Braseford Hotel (sp ...can't go back to link to check as I will loose this post ..near/on Stoar Street )

So confused about what to book .
Thank you .

You want the 'free now' app.

fifig87 · 22/03/2022 12:08

@bizzey

Is there an Uber app I can use in Dublin ?
I tend to use the free now app when I'm up in Dublin. Although if your staying in and around temple bar you won't need one bar coming in from the airport and there is buses regularly for that.

It would be a pricy taxi in from there!

bizzey · 22/03/2022 12:16

Oh wow !
Drury court is looking like it is ticking alot of boxes !!

2 room apartment would be lovely .
All together, but not on top of each other !
Or for an extra £140 ...I can have my own room and the smelly boys can share together !!!

Thanks for the "Uber " help .
I was planning on getting a taxi from the airport !
I had sort of budgeted €50 for the trip.
Is that about right ?

Have you considered the Arlington Hotel, very central?

For any hotel, always try ringing them directly for best room rate, they may also be able to accommodate extra person in room

bizzey · 22/03/2022 13:40

Ahhhh !!!
That Arlington is good value as well !!!

I suppose I could reserve them to get the prices they are today...and then cancel?
Is that wrong ?

I am worried the prices are going to go up the nearer we get to the dates .

There is a good bus down the airport to the city centres / hotels called aircoach

www.aircoach.ie

Once you've booked your hotel they'll tell you what one to take

If your boys have student ID they'll get discount on buses and admission everywhere

IWishIWasABaller · 22/03/2022 17:36

Drury court is great we have stayed there often in one of their apartments next to it. Think they are 3/4 bedroom

IWishIWasABaller · 22/03/2022 17:39

www.drurycourthotel.ie/apartments/ one, two and three bedrooms

bizzey · 22/03/2022 18:01

Thank you for the student ID Tip .

Camden court hotel. My bother in law and his family stayed there. Has a pool.. on camden st with loadsa pubs and restaurants and close to grafton st. Do not temple bar. I would ring them.its a great location for socialising and around the corner from the bleeding horse pub

bizzey · 22/03/2022 18:27

Drury court is giving me anxiety already !!
It says no noise after 10pm !
DS reckons that means parties and stuff ..
I would be a stress ball just needing to flush the toilet ...

Just looked there the camden court has apts.
Buswells hotel near to grafton street does triple rooms.

magicstar1 · 22/03/2022 18:33

It’s parties….some people would try to book the rooms for stags etc which wouldn’t be fair to other guests. Normal noise is fine

Wildehorses · 24/03/2022 08:50

Dury Court or Camden are much nicer locations than Arlington, taxi in will be about 35 euro

I love Buswells.

Drury Court is a great location as is bus wells. I don’t like the Aisling (too far out) or Arlington (Dublin’s quays are generally unpleasant)
No noise means no parties so I wouldn’t worry

I am worried the prices are going to go up the nearer we get to the dates .

Ireland is taking a substantial numbers of refugees from Ukraine, in a much bigger proportion to the UK per head of population as I understand it. Our population is expected to increase by at least 1% imminently. There was a hotelier on the radio yesterday explaining that some hotels are already accommodating a couple of refugees free where they have capacity, others are expecting to be fully block-booked by the government for at least several months. There is likely to be pressure on hotel rooms. If you get a good rate now I would book it. Pressure on rooms is likely to mean prices will stay high nearer your planned arrival time, so you are less likely to get a last minute bargain. I would imagine the greatest pressure will be on hotels with easy access to schools. I've no idea what the cancellation policy is for The Arlington or any other hotel.

This thread has been so helpful ,thank you everyone !

I am going to throw to more into the mix .
The address Connolly.
And
The Abbey.

I think I have got my sense of directions and Dublin the wrong way round !
As you look on a map ..
Looking "downwards" , the other side if the Liffey....downwards from temple bar ...

Is that main/central Dublin ??

I think I had in my head ,the "top" of the map as main area ?

OP posts:
bizzey · 24/03/2022 11:05

The Address Connolly has a family room for £755 .

Now that they are older , they can always go to a bar to escape each other , so not necessarily all on top of each other !

hopeishere · 24/03/2022 11:23

That's a bit far out from the centre. You want to concentrate on closer to Trinity imho.

bizzey · 24/03/2022 11:50

Ohh thank you !
That gives me a focal point .

OP posts:
magicstar1 · 25/03/2022 13:51

Dublin is basically divided north and south of the Liffey. Each side slags off the other a bit...not seriously.
Temple Bar is on the south side, as is Grafton Street etc. I'm from that side so would tend to stay there. I'd stay away from the actual Liffey area as there can be antisocial behaviour along there. I'm trying to be politically correct as I'm sure I'll get into trouble if I say too much.

Carriemac · 25/03/2022 21:52

Stay south of the river
