Can any mumsnetters point me to anything about dress code for Irish weddings. I’m MOB and need to make sure I don’t look totally out of place! All day event starting around noon and going on into the early hours at a single outdoor/indoor location!

I refused to marry in the catholic church and it caused all sorts of issues for my family who very reluctantly came to my tiny wedding.
I remember my mother and aunt saying ''it doesn't matter whether you believe or not you should marry in the catholic church and your soon to be H should convert''. I didn't invite the Aunt....
But that was over 35 years ago and things have changed a lot in Ireland since then....thankfully.

The number of catholic weddings has plummeted and non-religious weddings are outnumbering them for the last few years.

I listened to a discussion on weddings earlier this week, I had heard something like 33-35% of Irish weddings were civil weddings about 5 years ago but I was surprised to see that civil weddings are now at something like 53% or 55%.

There was also a discussion on funerals and things are changing there too.

What about babtisms,communions and confirmations?

Theblacksheepandme · 20/06/2022 15:51

Still going strong @SoyMarina unfortunately. People seem to do them just for the parties though.

SoyMarina · 21/06/2022 08:44

Oh well! I suppose a nice old church beats a hotel reception room for a venue!

I was answering this question.

I know. I achknowledged it by I responded by saying that a church is prettier as a venue than your average hotel venue so who need faith??
I am pleased that the catholic church no longer has such a hold on the people of Ireland.
I think communions, confirmations will dwindle in the next 20 years or so and only people who actually believe in god and the c churches teachings will make them.
A bit like here in the UK.
