Flying UK to Ireland

I’m flying from Edinburgh to Dublin in the 9th September with my 9 year old. I’ve had both my vaccines and have the NHS proof on my phone and on paper. Am I right in saying I don’t need a test? Just to fill in the passenger locator form?
Thanks

Yep that's right - you'll
Need to
Fill in a passenger locator form, the airline booking will
Give you the details. No test needed .

Brilliant thank you. I had read that but I think I just wanted someone to actually say it to me, just paranoid something would go wrong!

Hi, thank you for posting this, I am also off to Ireland in two weeks. My understanding is the same, no test for adults (I haven’t looked for children) if double vaccinated- but obviously need proof of vaccination, and then complete the passenger locator form. So I’m pleased you have the same understanding as me! I hope you have a great time! I’m so looking forward to going!

We've been over and back as a family a few times since 19th July , Dublin airport don't even look at the forms anymore but weirdly the ferries are strict.

BertiesShoes · 05/09/2021 16:16

I am just in early stages of planning to try and see relatives nr Waterford in next couple of months.

I am based in England, double vaccinated and have NHS app as proof…is this all I would need to get into Ireland?

Also, what about returning? Do I need a test in Ireland to return, and then a day 2 one back in UK?

Thanks for advice, there is so much online!

MakeTeaNotWar · 05/09/2021 16:37

@BertiesShoes yes and also a completed passenger locator form. No tests required on return to UK.

I've just been to Waterford, flew Heathrow to Dublin and nobody checked any paperwork on either leg

BertiesShoes · 05/09/2021 17:04

@MakeTeaNotWar

Thanks, yes passenger locator form won’t be a problem, I will either stay with relatives or book a B&B/hotel.

Can I ask how you got from Dublin to Waterford? Did you get a hire car or bus/train?

My son travelled back to Dublin via coach from Waterford when we last went.

I was thinking of a hire car, I am a confident driver but not sure about driving off from airport! I am just investigating flights - was hoping to go to Cork but looks like Shannon or Dublin are only options from North West (Manchester or Liverpool)

user1471557138 · 05/09/2021 18:34

@Mumofboys1.. it’s so great being able to get home isn’t it. It’s reassuring hearing from people who’ve already been.

@BertiesShoes My family is in Limerick so I always get Dublin Coach down. I’m
Sure they run buses to Waterford too. Limerick is €15 if you book online

@BertiesShoes this last trip my lovely cousin collected me but I'd normally just take the train

BertiesShoes · 05/09/2021 19:11

@MakeTeaNotWar

Thanks, just waiting to hear from relatives as to whether they are happy for me to go (they are both in eighties) then I will look at dates and flights.

user1471557138 · 06/09/2021 09:05

Was going to take a box of lateral flow tests in my hand luggage, anyone know of this is allowed?

user1471557138 · 06/09/2021 11:09

@Carriemac. Was it Edinburgh airport you flew from? Just wondering if the queues at security are much longer with everybody having to show their vaccine proof and stuff?

OP posts:
Carriemac · 06/09/2021 13:54

I've flown from Birmingham and stanstead - no queues really . I've brought the antigen tests with me and not been stopped .

Carriemac · 06/09/2021 13:56

@BertiesShoes the drive from the airport is fine - you're almost staring into the M50 and then the Waterford motorway is easy . Car hire is a bit of a distance drom the airport so allow extra time to drop back and transfer

user1471557138 · 06/09/2021 14:11

@Carriemac good to know thanks

@Carriemac

I have sent you a PM, but am basically confused as to what vaccination proof I need and how/when I present it.

Does it have to be uploaded to airline website (neither aer lingus or Ryanair websites make it clear - they talk of an EU cert.?) and if so, do I need a written certificate rather than use NHS app on my phone (which I have).

There is a possibility that I could go next week but it would be too short notice if I need a written certificate.

BertiesShoes · 07/09/2021 07:16

So, I have now managed to download a PDF certificate which includes details of both vaccinations, and barcodes.

Will this be sufficient, or do I need one sent by post?

MakeTeaNotWar · 07/09/2021 07:30

@BertiesShoes the NHS app is fine

Carriemac · 07/09/2021 08:36

I
Just showed the NHS app. I also printed the pdf just in case , occasionally showed it glowing indorrs doe coffee etc in Ireland . No need to
Upload anything , the ryanair site is misleading I just skipped that and checked in as normal.

BertiesShoes · 07/09/2021 09:49

Thanks for both of those replies, much appreciated!

BertiesShoes · 10/09/2021 11:08

One quick question for those who have flown into Dublin recently, esp. @Carriemac, @user1471557138, @MakeTeaNotWar

How long were you getting off the plane and through security?

I have now firmed up with my relatives, dates to go in October. They have also pointed me to the Clonmel bus that goes closer to their house than the Waterford one (they live west of Waterford)

However, if I fly Aer Lingus on their early flight, I only have 45mins from landing until the bus leaves (or a 2 hr wait).

Is that doable? Does it depend on time of year (it will be start of half term week)

Carriemac · 10/09/2021 11:55

It was very quick actually - DH even used the electronic gates . UK and EU passports in the same queue thankfully

BertiesShoes · 10/09/2021 13:14

Thanks @Carriemac

JoeCrackers · 10/09/2021 13:29

@BertiesShoes

Just been through Dublin airport an hour ago. We landed at 12.05 and were through passport control and out through the airport to Zone 16 in time for the 12.30 bus to Limerick.
Passport control was empty, the guy looked at our passports first but wheh I tried to show him the locator form and my NHS cert he just said it’s grand and waved us on. Was no hassle at all

BertiesShoes · 10/09/2021 13:33

@JoeCrackers

Brilliant, mine lands at 9.45, with bus from zone 16 at 10.30 so I should be ok, unless absolutely heaving at start of school hols but can take that risk!
