Anyone watching ?
I loved the first house- an old farmhouse with a new wing. I thought it should have won.
I didn't like the detached house in Meath - it was too dark. But they were willing to push the boundaries, I'll give them that.
The piano in the kitchen in the black house Shock

Anyone ?

OP posts:
LifeInAHamsterWheel · 24/02/2021 13:58

I've just watched the second episode.

I agree the Meath house was very dark. I am fascinated with people's tastes, I'm not particularly creative and even if I had the money to completely redo my house (or buy a new one and start from scratch) I'd have to employ someone to do it for me. I would know from looking at pictures/mood boards etc what I like and don't like, but I'd struggle to come up with the inital ideas myself. I could see how much work they'd put into that house but none of it was to my taste at all I couldn't imagine living there.

I hated the "piano as an island" idea Hmm the rest of the house was lovely

That Dublin cottage from episode 2 though Shock Shock that is my idea of heaven. I absolutely loved every single thing about it and if I could ditch my DH and kids I'd live out the rest of my years there happy as Larry Grin I gave it 11/10!

I hated the last 'modern farmhouse' property last night. I felt it was lacking any sort of style, the architech was right there was no consistency throughout the house. I thought the cinema room was horrible!!

The extended old farmhouse was lovely but the net ceiling on the landing made my heart stop! I have a slight fear of heights there is no way I'd step onto that or want my kids to be bouncing on it no matter how secure they tell me it is!! Gorgeous house, but still not as fab as the little cottage in Dublin. If I win the Euromillions I'll make her an offer on it Grin

Carriemac · 24/02/2021 15:43

That net ceiling gave me pins and needles in my fingers and toes there's no way I'd step on it . Likes the house though not the cladding
The little Dublin house was fab - loved the chimney roof light

Anoisagusaris · 24/02/2021 15:46

The little house was gorgeous. Quite liked the first house too, I’d say some amount of money went into it. My kids loved it! Last house was quite tasteless. I did love the hall/kitchen floor though. Cinema room was just a plain room with a horrible suite of furniture in it 🤣🤣

Saying that, they were all far nicer than my house 😇

LadyEloise · 24/02/2021 15:57

Yes the cottage was amazingly well done.
Whoever designed it was very clever, with their ingenious storage solutions. I think I'd find it a little claustrophobic.
I don't often agree with the judges. One year there was a house near me featured.
It didn't get into the final. It was and still is fabulous.

What did you think of this weeks offerings ?

OP posts:
Carriemac · 04/03/2021 16:21

No wow factor at all

LadyEloise · 04/03/2021 17:25

I particularly disliked the very "busy" semi detached house in the housing estate.
I think I'm more minimalist than maximalist.

I’m watching this in bits and pieces on catch up, so am completely confused about which episodes I’ve seen. I liked the black west Cork house with the piano island. And I liked very much the flat in the converted mill (in Antrim?).

I also thoroughly enjoyed the horrorstruck face on the uptight architect (or is she an architect?) at the very crammed house full of carefully-curated clutter and bonkers tropical prints. Grin Though actually, I did agree with her that the plainer green-walked room at the top of the house was the nicest part.

LadyEloise · 10/03/2021 11:06

Your thoughts on last night's episode ?
I have house envy. Smile
I loved the restored mill- so well done and really liked the house in Cork. I wasn't as keen on the winning house.
Amanda is a harsh judge, she can be very critical. The homeowners must be gutted. Their pride and joy.
Yes the occasional item might jar but overall those houses are quite something.
Criticising the popularity of rattan garden furniture !!!!🙄
It's weatherproof, it can be left out in the rain, it's comfortable and maintenance free unlike aluminium or wood/teak.

honeyrider · 12/03/2021 00:18

Amanda is downright rude and there's no pleasing her, she's just being a bitch for the sake of it and she's not even entertaining. Hugh was funny making the comment about her needing to take sugar.

Happierwithouthim · 12/03/2021 14:02

Also Amanda is very bitchy towards Hugh, just out of malice.

Myself and dc love these programmes as we're currently renting and will be buying in the near future, we won't have the budget to do most of the stuff we're admiring but it's lovely to see all the same

Carriemac · 17/03/2021 07:22

I hear there was ructions last night? Can't wait to see it

LadyEloise · 17/03/2021 09:21

I watched it.
Amanda had the usual negative criticism but ye Gods she actually praised an apartment, gave it a 10 and was disgusted Hugh didn't do likewise. She did appear to flounce off at the end. But it just seems so contrived.
Give me Deirdre any day. I don't agree with her opinions but she is a natural on tv.
There is something very stilted in the conversations between the judges.
The homes were lovely but nothing shouted Wow to me.

OP posts:
Neap · 17/03/2021 09:31

An architect friend of mine worked with Amanda and claims she's a nice person, but her persona on TV is an unappealing mash-up of Brunette Ice Queen and the kind of woman who is always expecting to be disappointed by some minor but apparently crucial detail and who sets out her expectations for her proposal by sitting her boyfriend down and saying 'Now, I'm very detail-oriented, Darren...'

honeyrider · 17/03/2021 16:05

Amanda is boring and a turnoff. The chemistry between the judges in former series was good even when they disagreed but it's very stilted and off since moan hole joined this series. There's a very notable between the two women.

She's being rude and negative the whole time and the only place she liked was the apartment last night because it was white, dull and boring like herself. Jaysus the Late Late showed a photo of a room in her home last Friday and it was awful, how anyone could use her services after this series would beggar belief unless you love boring and without personality.

She also contradicts herself on what she likes between houses, the very thing she cannot stand in one house she loves in the next. She's beyond tiresome at this stage.

HomeoftheFear · 17/03/2021 16:18

Drove past the house with the net today. It’s a large house! I kept thinking here’s a lot of washing in those windows

LadyEloise · 17/03/2021 16:38

What was the house with the net ?

OP posts:
HomeoftheFear · 17/03/2021 17:02

Indoor ceiling net in Cork, converted farmhouse with extension that Amanda disliked (it’s lovely actually)

LadyEloise · 17/03/2021 17:39

Thank you.

Amanda is becoming to houses what Dr Eva was to the muffin top

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/03/2021 14:54

I didn't really like any of the properties on the latest episode. Amanda is really annoying and it's so obvious that there's no chemistry between the judges which is a shame as it makes it almost cringeworthy to watch!

Did anyone see them on the Late Late show recently?! It looked to me like Amanda had gone to town in the green room beforehand Grin

Ovine · 18/03/2021 15:24

@IwishIwasontheN17

Amanda is becoming to houses what Dr Eva was to the muffin top
Amanda's prissy 'good taste' makes me want to throw busy chintzes about gaily, combine stripes, spots and florals, put the kind of flock wallpaper you used to get in old-fashioned Indian restaurants in rooms with swirly brown seventies carpet, get a cabinet full of flamenco dolls AND a knitted crinoline doll toilet roll cover, and have insanely cluttered kitchen work surfaces with a life-size sculpture of Frida Kahlo linedancing in the middle of the island.

And then follow Amanda around as she shudders at each, saying 'Do you love it, Amanda? Do you? Do you? I can tell you love it, Amanda.' Grin

LadyEloise · 18/03/2021 16:26

Imagine Amanda the Monochromatic Minimalist having to work with Siobhán , an avowed maximalist currently in the final of Interior Design Masters on BBC2. Grin

Have to say, after a good start this season it has gone downhill. Scottish home of the year has much more interesting properties .
