@Brightonbabe5

It's ridiculous, most kids on the road were out playing yesterday & today, all off now until the 11th. We have a neighbourhood whatsapp group & the same parents were complaining about the schools not going back!!!!
Im not so worried about that. The risk ouside is low. But if you have come from a high risk inside setting youd better be more careful. My guess is two more weeks to peak plus schools closed till mid term.
halfpasteleven · 02/01/2021 07:44

@Brightonbabe5

Totally past control... We had a dusting of snow yesterday & all the kids on the road were out stomping around (& the parents too!) no social distancing... Again today... Kids from at least 6 or 7 different houses all playing on the road... The same parents are the ones cribbing about the schools closing!! What don't they understand about households not mixing!
There is a mom nearby who keeps trying to organise a play date with my DS... Despite being told straight out that we are keeping contacts to an Absaloute minimum, ie we haven't gone anywhere except the supermarket for a good shop. I cannot understand how people think it's ok to have play dates . Her children aren't even in my DS class!!
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/01/2021 08:10

That's crazy, halfpasteleven

eggandonion · 02/01/2021 10:10

I think school off until midterm too. Perhaps leaving cert to be organized now. I can't believe how bad this is, so quickly.

I agree they will need to close until mid term. I'm worried about dc's education, a little bit sad as they're enjoying school so much & all have wonderful teachers this year. But at the end of the day the numbers are just too crazy😢

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/01/2021 10:29

Yes, if it happens, it will be very tough on them.

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/01/2021 15:59

Oh gosh, I would hate to be closed that long. I thought the closure was only to allow isolation for 10 days. (In the republic anyway)

halfpasteleven · 02/01/2021 16:26

Simon Harris has a live video from earlier on his Instagram about where we are at now.
It's not a pleasant listen but it's a necessary one.

eggandonion · 02/01/2021 16:39

I hate the idea of long school closures too, even though I have no school age kids anymore. I always thought a full week of midterm in primary schools in February was better than a short break, just to separate sniffles and bugs.
I once had an entire February with one or other child at home.

theDudesmummy · 02/01/2021 16:55

Will the special schools be different from general primaries, does anyone know?

buckeejit · 02/01/2021 16:55

I'm a childminder up North and glad the schools are off at least next week, even though my job is a lot harder when they aren't at school & we can't get out! Really hoping the numbers don't get any worse.

Ds is doing the bloody transfer test too so there's that to look forward to. If I could I would hibernate for the next month!

I am really anxious again and really hoping they can ramp up the vaccination process. It will feel better when the vulnerable and older people get vaccinated.

theDudesmummy · 02/01/2021 16:56

In ROI, that is

Lipz · 02/01/2021 18:25

OMG that's pretty high those numbers today 😕

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/01/2021 19:02

Yikes! Shock and we don't know if the system is accurate at this stage, probably not.

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/01/2021 19:10

@theDudesmummy sorry have no idea, would assume not.
Numbers are ridiculous today. My anxiety over covid is back now. No harm I suppose.
My DS and his partner are upset because they want to have a party for their daughters 1st birthday in a few weeks time, before restrictions lift. We said they shouldn't, they got all huffy saying we didnt care about their child. Whole family was upset over comments made.
To be honest the three year olds I mind have more sense than them. They would appalled at the thoughts of a party when the government says no.
They are also outside my 5k.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 02/01/2021 19:19

It does feel like the wheels have come off now doesn't it. I don't think there's any point knowing the case numbers, it's just everywhere at the moment. I only pay attention to the numbers of deaths. Please god the majority of cases will remain asymptomatic or only turn into mild illness. I suppose the next few weeks will have tell. All we can do is keep our circle small, wear our masks and wash our hands. Stay safe everyone

Lipz · 02/01/2021 20:47

They've 9k positive cases that they haven't added into daily figures, I would assume they've added some today. The thing is, these 9k are from Christmas day, so not that long ago.

Also, hospital figures have doubled since Christmas day, the icu numbers are rising too. Many are only being admitted now after Christmas, I would say the hospital numbers will rise more as next week is the telling time from Christmas, plus many will have tested positive and not needed hospital yet.

Then we have the cases to deal with from NYE. I think it is without doubt we'll see much higher numbers soon.

Of course many will be fine and not suffer.

Brightonbabe5 · 02/01/2021 21:03

I don't think the kids will be back in the ROI on the 11th...back in March there were initially only closed for 2 weeks & didn't go back until September in the end even when the numbers came down substantially the end of May & in June. Also the numbers are far worse now than in the Spring...

Iblinkedandiamold · 02/01/2021 21:08

Norma is very quiet. Usually she out saying schools will not close or schools will reopen. Email went out today to childcare providers to remind them to only take children of essential workers and to close if they have none. So they are taking this very seriously and it's worrying me.

Watched the Simon Harris video too. I miss him. He makes you want to comply so you dont disappoint him. Grin

SionnachRua · 02/01/2021 21:14

Yerra Norma is probably off looking through all those drawings she had kids send her back in Dec, where she decided to issue the entire country a homework pass...that or playing Hide and Seek when the tough questions come along, she's good at that.

Brightonbabe5 · 02/01/2021 21:24

I think her silence is telling to be honest, Mícheál will be out next week with the big announcement unless Leo leaks it first...

eggandonion · 02/01/2021 21:45

The ministers are fairly quiet, the big doctors are out scaring us. They don't do optimism.
I think they need a new computer to deal with big numbers.

Dh starts back to work on Monday and will be down 9 staff between those who are positive and those who are contacts and isolating. Until now it’s been mostly people who know people we know. But it’s all much closer now.

Lipz · 03/01/2021 17:56

Jesus God 😲😲😲😲😲😲 nearly 5k today..... What have people being doing??

Radyward · 03/01/2021 18:49

Sorry i am fuming over childrens education and socilisation . Those teachers need to be put straight on the PUP if thats the case. How are front line workers like nurses ,People who work in tesco able to go out to work fgs ??its crazy. They need to go back the latest end of January. They must want all kids staring at screens.
