I don't believe it, would it ever go away!

Well it's still a tiny overall proportion of the population getting it. I'm not minimising it but I think less than 5% of the population has had it. Also, interestingly, the figures today for 20-39 (I think) age group have been high which conveniently is the group they're keen to keep at home over new year.

However the main issue is the health system is fucked and can barely cope at the best of times.

eggandonion · 30/12/2020 12:06

Our gp surgery has sent dd1 an email, on a local outbreak. And what to do if you are unwell, need a test, etc. She forwarded it to the rest of us.
Three of us live 2km from the surgery. Dd2 lives 200km away, and had travel vaccine there 28 months ago.
They have my email address.

2143 cases in NI Shock

hopeishere · 30/12/2020 14:54

A huge number but I still think there's some lag with reporting. I'd want to see it as a % of completed tests.

Is that information routinely available?

Not sure why there is double amount of lab tests completed compared to number of individuals tested?

eggandonion · 30/12/2020 15:13

If anyone is following the Seamus Coffey rip.ie statistics, it will be interesting to see his end of year total. The big peak in deaths was April and May.
I wonder if there is a northern Ireland equivalent study?
Hopefully the people who have long term symptoms will see an improvement soon.
2020 is not ending on a good footing.

Yes that is confusing! See the NI Assembly due to debate schools tomorrow. Doubt it will make any difference.
LadyEloise · 30/12/2020 17:07

Looks like we'll be in Level 5 tomorrow. Sad

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 30/12/2020 17:12

Schools will reopen on the 11th.

BalaamsAss · 30/12/2020 17:33

What’s the current situation with schools returning in ROI?

Having seen Gavin Williamson’s announcement this afternoon about schools in England (and knowing how Peter Weir and in fact all of the DUP) like to do anything at all that aligns them with Boris and his cronies, I am expecting now that we will have a change to the plans tomorrow.

As school staff and as a parent of a 5th former, I would like to see exam years back in over the next few weeks, and everyone else remote learning. My DC has 2 GCSE modules in mid January and I will be ripping if they miss them due to self isolating or testing positive.

I have 3 younger DC too - including in P6. I’d like them in school, but if they have to go to remote learning to protect the exam kids then I’m fine with that.

I am as pissed off as I ever was at the eejits who took the whole AQE thing to court to force a delay. The majority of parents (and kids) didn't want a delay and now they are having to sit the exams when the situation is worse than it was back in November. (Full disclosure - I support academic selection, albeit I think that the AQE is an utterly crap test, but this current situation is a mess where no-one is a winner)

mrsfeatherbottom · 30/12/2020 17:54

The transfer test stuff is a nightmare. Peter Weir claims to have no control over it but if any other organisation tried to get hundreds of people together indoors at the minute, they would be breaking the regulations! I'm sure the couple that brought the court case are glad they are anonymous!!

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/12/2020 17:56

Is it primary as well as secondary reopening on the 11th?
Now I have to play a waiting game to see if I can open. I am in Childcare but on school grounds. Our lease says we are not allowed on the premises when the school is shut.
I hate the waiting and wondering. I wish we had something like the DES that would decide for us.

I can cope with 2 extra days as long as it doesn't go on for longer.

TheKeatingFive · 30/12/2020 18:01

Yes. I’ve heard nothing on childcare though. Praying they aren’t affected.

TheKeatingFive · 30/12/2020 18:02

Ok, RTE now reporting that childcare/crèches stay open.

That’s a small mercy.

LadyEloise · 30/12/2020 18:54

I am fed up of the stupid selfish people who have brought us to this, Level 5 again.
Put a curfew in place and come down hot and heavy on the feckers having house parties.

Iblinkedandiamold · 30/12/2020 19:25

@TheKeatingFive SPITU are demanding that childcare close too. A lot of very angry Childcare professionals online at the moment. Our service is remaining closed. I will be working though, I'm behind on paperwork again.

BalaamsAss · 30/12/2020 19:35

BBC news suggesting that NI primaries will not reopen until 11th Jan, years 8-11will go immediately to remote learning instead of waiting til 25th Jan, and years 12-14 will go back as normal.

No word yet on transfer test

@LadyEloise You are mistaken. Have you looked at the reports? The actual figures for transmissionn location? I think not. Stop suggesting more curtailment of civil liberties without informing yourself.
LadyEloise · 30/12/2020 20:03

@Jakey056
On another thread you suggested somebody wanting to get from a London airport to Ireland should fly to Belfast and then travel to the South.
This was when the Irish Government/ Health Service was trying to prevent the spread of the new strain of Covid19 and flights were not allowed for a couple of days from the UK.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 30/12/2020 21:58

God, watching the 9 o'clock news was very depressing. The numbers are worse than even the most pessimistic predictions. Those being diagnosed now will have caught it a week ago so that doesn't even account for the Christmas Day mixing.

Anecdotally, we actually don't know anyone who has had COVID, the numbers have been low in our area since the beginning, but in the last 24hours my dc have heard of 4 friends diagnosed. Luckily they have not been in contact with my dc.

Im sure there were some who broke the rules but I think even people who stuck to the letter of the 'law' probably did a lot more mixing than felt safe to me.

I read the BBC article and couldn’t work out if the year 11s were going back or not. It’s not very clear.
BalaamsAss · 30/12/2020 22:24

I agree @halcyondays

It made reference to the year 8-10 pupils who were meant to be remote learning from Jan 25th, but then also said that only exam years (12-14) would be in school so who knows for the 11s

Andi2020 · 30/12/2020 22:28

My dd friends have organised a house party for new year eve shes not going thinks they are been irresponsible this I'd the 3rd one over xmas. I am actually really mad one of their mums has a brain tumour and she on cry about It and then going to house parties
