Well we knew it was coming but still....
It's going to be a very long two weeks. Dying to see the list of 'essential' shops and services

I think it's the right thing. I was surprised at not being allowed more than 2km from home but happy to adhere to it.

Crazycrazylady · 27/03/2020 22:07

Me too.
I'm lucky though I live in the country with a large garden. Very hard on families in apartments in cities. Needs must though.

The one thing that had been keeping me sane was heading up to the mountains behind me where you could stay well away from anyone, with the kids and dog every day.

BiddyPop · 27/03/2020 22:15

Luckily I got a SuperValu delivery today but there was no pasta in it (ordered). At least there were tinned tomatoes and I have enough pasta (I hope) to last us the 2 weeks. There was a smart comment as the last item from the van was toilet roll -“the most important thing”.

Extra lucky, I had organised a replacement football (for the green out front of the house) for DD today as she had burst the previous one on Wednesday. She’s kicked it a LOT in 3 weeks as we have kept her fairly strictly isolated - I am fully expecting to need to replace a window or 2 by the end of the lockdown....

CalmdownJanet · 27/03/2020 23:24

I live rurally too, taking the kids out every day has definitely been my sanity, 2km will mean just walking to the village and back and it will mean when I run myself I can't go far but it could be worse, we definitely can't complain. I hope people take it seriously

DuchessDumbarton · 27/03/2020 23:33

Have hardly been outside of the house since the schools closed....so it'll be more of the same.
DC have been good about it....a bit tempestuous at times, but staying in.
They all report that many of their friends are still meeting up regularly. Dont know how they're going to police that.

It's funny......the LLS hasn't been something that I watched for years (outside of the Toy Show) but I watched last week and this evening.

Simon Harris looks exhausted but excellent staying on message.
Ditto Varadkar.
We are really lucky to have a solid team leading us at the moment.

northernstars · 28/03/2020 00:03

Fingal CoCo closing car parks at parks etc so only locals have access ie within walking distance

tazzy73 · 28/03/2020 03:00

Scary times ahead but we will get through it. Live in the country so will be able to get out for a short walk.
I'm still working so hopefully we will flatten the curve with less interactions around other people.
Stay safe ladies.

Tazzy

Anyone else not really sleep lastnight. It could've been the half easter egg I ate before bed. I was asleep well after 1am and awake again at 7am. So now I am tired and emotional.
Anyone keeping a Covid 19 Diary. I'm thinking of starting one.
Dear Diary, decided to go to kitchen today for a change. Smile

BiddyPop · 28/03/2020 10:39

I had yet another sh*t night’s sleep too. And DH arguing this morning about what the Govt has and hasn’t announced about essential workers outside retail. Like my job is to speak and defend them (he’s private sector and I am civil servant but not involved in Covid work).

So tempers are going to fray today, especially if he keeps playing the god awful music he’s suddenly got on so loud..... 🤯🤯

We had been doing so well with isolation up to now and being generally prepped

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2020 11:22

I'm also feeling like I'll never see the rest of my family again. It's only been two weeks since the schools closed and little by little everything closed down. Feels like a life time. I actually miss work and human contact. I want a hug. Even though I was seeing my parents because I'm not at work,I didnt want to hug them. Most days I'm going from my house to their house and back again, only going to shops if I need something or they need something and that's few and far between.

Mitsouko67 · 28/03/2020 13:38

Yes, will miss the long walks.

And inconsolable about my local coffee shop.

But pulling on big girl pants.

Planning on maybe baking today (but haven't got out of bed yet) 😯

Aware none of us will emerge untouched from this. Thinking of family and friends some we may never see again. Or it could come to our door.

Wfh in non essential role and wish I could do more for others. Though I think also my family need me here to structure the days.

Fan slan gach dunne.

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2020 15:07

Are there Guards out and about? I haven't been out of the house but dont think they''d be in our little rural town. Will go for my walk later and see.

northernstars · 28/03/2020 16:58

I've seen a few drive by which is unusual for here.

7Days · 28/03/2020 17:01

Are we allowed to go for drives? Not get put of the car. Just drive around a bit

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2020 18:17

@7Days no, no unnecessary journeys. I went for my run today. Not a guard in sight today. We dont have them at the best of times.

LadyEloise · 28/03/2020 19:03

I saw one of the rental cars the Gardai took over- it was a navy Renault I think, with GARDA written in big letters across it.
They were checking out the local supermarket, which is in a shopping centre but the queue stretched all the way out of the centre onto the main road. They also checked out the small park beside me to see if there were any young fellows playing football , or teens meeting up.

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2020 19:46

Good to hear that they are out and about so.

CalmdownJanet · 28/03/2020 21:01

Does this mean that me and dh can't take the two kids for a walk together within the 2km of our home. We live rurally and have been doing it daily up till now.

Lockdown
Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2020 22:19

It would appear so @CalmdownJanet. Myself and my sister and sometimes my mother were taking daily walks together too, I live in a rural town, they live in the country about 5min drive from me.
We were just saying how this will now have to stop. Sad

CalmdownJanet · 28/03/2020 23:16

That will definitely need to stop iblinkedandiamold but hopefully not for too long if everyone sticks together and we can get through this, I understand you would miss them though. The fact we are from the same house is what confusing me, Leo said once from the same household it was fine within 2km but this says otherwise.

7Days · 28/03/2020 23:38

I wouldn't have thought that husband, wife and kids walks were prohibited, going by the rest of the measures.
It seems like it's more to stop different households meeting up on the road.

Letseatgrandma · 28/03/2020 23:44

Myself and my sister and sometimes my mother were taking daily walks together too

Do you all live in different houses? Shouldn’t that have stopped a week ago?

Designerenvy · 29/03/2020 10:24

@7days ,they have said that family walks are allowed ( for parents and children living in same household ) , but we must adhere to the 2km radius rule .
We can travel more than 2km for groceries and essential services .
I feel sorry for the over 70's , especially those who may be in full health , but the ICU's are seeing an increase in admissions and the majority are in this age group, so it's a necessity for now, that they cocoon.
Not easy though .

honeyrider · 29/03/2020 23:26

There are so many over 70's blatantly ignoring the cocooning they're to do and insisting on going to the shops, walks etc. they know the risks but they're worse than teenagers who get blamed for everything.
