Dh is wrongly calling it a hurl. I correctly call it a hurley. For context, I have munster heritage, he's from just outside the pale. It's come to a head as ds has just started at the local gaa academy and dh is just trying to piss me off Hmm

A hurley.

EleanorRigbey · 08/09/2018 18:28

A Hurley.

EleanorRigbey · 08/09/2018 18:28

Don't think there is any debate whatever part of the country you are from, it is a Hurley.

wafflyversatile · 08/09/2018 18:30

Slater? Are you talking about woodlice?

AfterSchoolWorry · 08/09/2018 18:31

A hurl

DramaAlpaca · 08/09/2018 18:32

It's a hurley. A hurl? Never.

junebirthdaygirl · 08/09/2018 18:33

Hurley is the proper name but a lot of people shorten it to hurl. I live in a very strong hurling area..not in Munster..and everyone calls it a hurl. So ye will have to differ and see what the coach calls it.

Rockbird · 08/09/2018 18:33

Yep, a hurley.

LizzyBennett · 08/09/2018 18:34

a Hurl.
or a hurley stick.

Mammysin · 08/09/2018 18:34

A Hurley ( from Munster ) can't abide a hurl ( needs to calm down)

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/09/2018 18:35

I'm ignoring the coach. He may have an all Ireland medal and an all star but he's wrong too Wink

Corcra · 08/09/2018 18:37

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2018 18:37

A caman Grin

KIMv · 08/09/2018 18:38

Hurley

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 08/09/2018 18:38

It's hurl or hurley here in our part of cork

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/09/2018 18:38

Mammysin, it honestly makes me twitch when he uses hurl as a noun instead of a verb. And I'm sure he actually dgaf and he only says it because it annoys me.

My brain clearly skipped over hurley stick earlier as a self protection measure. Shock

A hurl???? That just makes me want to vomit!

Of course it is a hurley.

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2018 18:39

Hurl sounds very D4 doesn't it?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 08/09/2018 18:39

I actually suggested that as a compromise Jane!

Hurley but I know a lot of people who call it a hurl. Annoys me so much.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 08/09/2018 19:00

I’d never given in any thought but my first response when I read the thread title was “hurl”. I guess I’m wrong too! Grin

Jasperoonicle · 08/09/2018 19:01

I have always called it a hurling stick... im crap too clearly! I am not sure being a dub is even my defence! I know nothing about GAA!

DramaAlpaca · 08/09/2018 19:07

DH, a proud Munster man & hurling obsessive, has just informed me that hurl is in fact correct in some parts of the country, Kilkenny for example. Who knew?
