So it seems like the initial investigation into the graves (for want of a better word) in Tuam is even more horrific than had been imagined.

OMG, it is shocking, makes me want to cry !

Infants and toddlers up to age 3, and it was run by fucking Nuns.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more about this on here so far. I've been reading about it this evening and there are no words. Everyone knew about the Magdalene Laundries and all that, but this just brings it right home.

Some of the stuff I've been reading on other sites have referred to the nuns selling healthy babies, and that these are the sickly children who they couldn't sell. What I don't get (and I realise this is niave in the extreme) is what would be the motive for nuns to do that? As, what would they spent the money on?

On Reddit there were actually posters playing this down- "they dig up graveyard and find remains- shocker", completely negating the fact that they were found in a fucking sewer.

They probably kept places going using the money.

I was talking to an older person who used to go in there around the time and they said that basically whilst (in their opinion) everyone was very nice, nobody washed their hands and if one baby got D&V or an other illness, then it would be passed on like wildfire. In other words it was lack of education.

It's like a horror show and these events happened so recently. How did such a religious group of people think it was ok to dump baby bodies with no dignity for them or their mothers.

Very distressing.

We should gather the remaining Catholic clergy and fucking put them on a boat and push it out. I hate hate hate that this awful fucking cult is STILL enshrined in our country.

Horrific, disgusting and absolutely heartbreaking. I'm sick to my stomach. Did anyone read the statements from the Nuns?! Totally washed their hands ...

It's unbelievable that these poor babies were not given the dignity of burial in consecrated ground and a funeral. What was the mindset? I just can't understand it? This is within living memory. What a huge stain on Ireland and its history. Ashamed.

These people are murderers and the church should have no status in Ireland. Or any other country for that matter. What they have done is committed horrific crimes against humanity - abuse and torture of adults and children, people trafficking and now as it turns out mass murder. These are the same shower that bang on about the evils of abortion and how every child should be loved. Yeah, apart from the ones you murdered and whose bodies you dumped in a sewer.

Ignorance, lack of education and the fear of shame all covered up under a religious umbrella its a fuckkng disgrace.

It makes no difference how they died (well it does but even if it was just a lack of education) they were dumped in unmarked graves, SEWERS. Holy people, dumping bodies of babies in sewers.

Unfortunately I believe even with these latest truths becoming known the full story will never be told, if you take the recent death of Desmond Connell it is believed by many that he took a lot of secrets to his grave. These atrocities span to living memory so there will be a lot of people spewing the 'I didn't have any proof/know who to talk to' line. It isn't just clergy will want this to 'go away',
Horrendous and just so so sad.

I can't actually put into words how I feel about this. I'm beyond sickened.

Dear God, those poor mothers, if they even knew.

It's diabolical. I was taught by nuns and haven't a good word to say about them.
I was born and adopted by my family in the 80s and this highlights how lucky I am.

How could they think the God they dedicate their lives to would ever forgive them for their actions? Baffles me.

So the nuns are basically saying that they'll do everything to help the investigation uncover the truth ... apart from tell the truth that is, and given that they're the ones who know the truth ... how do these fucks get away with their blatant refusals to admit responsibility? And why, yet again, does the story only come out sixty years later?

My family originate from Tuam. I can't help but wonder if there are children related to me buried there. It is beyond belief that the Church could do this.

How can they not apologise. Not one iota of remorse in that statement. How people can have anything to do with the church is beyond me.

My DM despises nuns. When she had my db a nun came round to the house and told my dm it was a sin as she isn't Catholic but my dad is.

The nuns were murdering and chucking out inconvenient babies and impervious to the pain of the poor women who gave birth while the priests were abusing children.

Such a lack of humanity.

Cowgirls, my mum said at her convent, the nuns were talking about a family who'd been killed in a car crash and saying how sad it was. Then it transpired that the family was Jewish and the nun said 'ah well then'' (like, that's less sad). I didn't go to a convent. My dd is at one and she loves it. Not a nun in sight.

That's dreadful Beer And don't get me started on all those poor women who were taught their babies were in limbo. The Church then decided a few years ago that actually babies don't go to limbo. Talk about making it up as they go along
