Do I have to go through the citizenship application or can I just apply with passport form and supporting documentation?
Im pretty sure im eligible; we live here, my husband is Irish, my granny was Irish, my dad has his Irish passport, my kids were born here.
What's the route to go down? And can not keep my uk passport/citizenship too? Although the way things atr going at thr moment in the uk im not sure I want anything to do with my homeland!

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I have al documentation- so I now just send it off to the Irish embassy - including British passport? I'm really nervous about sending everything off. Can I actually take it to the embassy? I don't mind travelling to London to do so...No one ever answers the phone when I've calledConfused

Costacoffeeplease · 17/10/2016 17:37

I'm planning on a certified copy of my passport rather than sending it off

LynetteScavo · 17/10/2016 17:37

I'm taking about going on the foreign births register for citizenship.

You need a solicitor certified copy of your passport not the real thing. Double check the documentation list. And send recorded delivery.

Amalfimamma · 17/10/2016 17:57

Here if you include a 15£ cheque they send all documents back again. Have a look on the embassy website

titchy · 17/10/2016 18:48

Personal cheques not accepted!

LynetteScavo · 17/10/2016 19:36

Thank you titchy - that makes total sense!

SophieofShepherdsBush · 17/10/2016 19:42

Well this is all very helpful indeed, thank you lovely people!

Good luck! I sent dc's docs off last week (plus dh's and dgp's original certificates - eek). Am anticipating a good four month wait.... apparently they've had 10 time more applications so far this year than in the whole of last year!

cheekyfunkymonkey · 17/10/2016 23:33

Send original passport or they just stop your application and ask for it. Solicitor certified copies don't work ( I tried!).

LynetteScavo · 18/10/2016 07:17

I'm really nervous about not having original passports for so long!

titchy · 18/10/2016 07:59

Really? Their own list of paperwork states a certified copy...?

titchy · 18/10/2016 07:59

That's for the London Embassy.

Costacoffeeplease · 18/10/2016 08:19

Yes I saw certified copy too, I'm in Portugal

HowSoJoe · 27/10/2016 14:05

cheekyfunkymonkey they definitely don't want your actual passport - it's just a mega hassle when people ask for them back.
Get your passport copy certified by either the person who witnesses your application, or the Post Office.
For the London Embassy, anyways. But the processing time is like... six months minimum.

I sent DD's original passport to the London Embassy post Brexit for a renewal and her new passport, with her old, were back in 5 weeks! I was amazed.
