Chicco next to me forever reviews?

Loublou13 · 24/06/2021 21:20

Hi All,

We are considering purchasing the Chicco next to me forever crib as our 10 month old hates being in his own room and the fact this can be in a next to me cot for a longer period of time really appeals.

It is very pricey though so wanted to see if anyone has it and can offer any thoughts or if you know anything about it?

Thanks.

@Loublou13 I wondered if you did purchase the Forever Crib. We are considering purchasing it for our baby, who is unsafe in/too large for ther co sleeper crib now, but will not sleep in their cot (so currently they co sleep with me on a mattress in a floor). I would love to be able to sleep safely with our baby and my husband. I can find very little information about this crib. I just wondered if you found any more information?

Thank you . Hope you found a solution regardless

Also looking at this crib! John Lewis had some reviews of it that looked very positive. It is expensive but I am thinking it will last for a few years as can be used as a floor bed up until about 4. Let me know if toy do purchase how toy get on with it! :) X

Hi Almac, I might email Chicco for some more information, but I think we probably don't get it. The reason being that I want something I could lie in my bed in and breast feed our baby in. Looking at the pictures I don't think this would be possible, but I may be wrong. With the co sleeper we had when he was first born I was just about able to do this, but it is no longer safe to use this as he can sit up. I agree though, although expensive the chicco crib does look to have longevity. We have already bought a cot, so I think we are just going to try to get him sleeping in this next to our bed for some of the night in this cot and then when he wakes up to be fed take him to feed on a mattress on the floor (I seem to fall asleep if I feed him in a chair). At least with the cot I will be able to reach through the bars to comfort him.

If we hadn't already bought the cot and mattress we might well have got the chicco forever, it would have cost about the same and looks very versatile. Hope you find what you need Smile

Satlie2019 that all makes complete sense...this is my first baby and I'm only 18 weeks pregnant so its guess work for me really! I too want the benefits of co sleeping/feeding but dont feel comfortable having him on the bed as feel super cautious as my first but I may well change my mind when he comes along. Wanting to buy these things early, same with car seat etc to spread the cost over the next 6 months rather than having to pay for everything in one go nearer the time. Best wishes :)

jesp · 28/08/2021 13:42

How did you all find it?

Lro82 · 24/09/2021 00:15

I've just bought one, you couldn't feed them in it as the 'door' creates a small barrier between the beds even at its lowest setting

Elaineireland87 · 26/09/2021 20:17

I’m about to buy one, there’s not much info on moving the crib into its own room after 6 months, unsure if this is advised?

Lro82 · 27/09/2021 00:37

It's principle function is to allow them to sleep next to you for longer than 6 months. If you want to move them into their own room I would look at a traditional cot as the sides of the next to me forever aren't as deep as a cot. When my 1yru old is standing I'm not 100% confident he couldnt topple over the top with a little effort and wriggling.

Elaineireland87 · 27/09/2021 08:17

This is what I wondered thanks so much for replying!!!

zaja · 17/10/2021 13:53

Hi all,
I wonder what’s people’s experience using Chicco next to me forever for toddlers over one year old. Any more thoughts on this?
Thanks

Lro82 · 17/10/2021 16:31

I wouldnt trust a toddler standing in it, it's not as deep as a normal cot, I think they could too themselves out quite easy. My little one is 13month and I reckon I could trust him in there for maybe another 6months 🤷‍♀️

Satlie2019 · 07/11/2021 08:09

@Lro82 sorry I have only just seen your post about not being able to breastfeed a baby in one.
Thank you, really helpful.

Blmw · 26/01/2022 01:40

Hi, if you make it so it’s the floor bed adaptation, you can have it lowered completely and still connected to your bed. This is how I breastfeed in ours :) hope that helps.

Violet1988 · 02/02/2022 13:57

@Blmw what age would you say it's suitable to do that from? Can you have one side still up or is it just a head and foot board in toddler bed form. Also can it be a toddler bed in parents room but not attached to the bed? Just wondering how versitile it can be. Thank you. X

Does the Next to me forever come with a mattress?

AKT244 · 18/02/2022 20:47

I really struggled to find reviews on this before I took the plunge. Definitely money we’ll spent l. my little climber outgrew the original next to me fairly early and wouldn’t sleep in a cot so this felt like the only solution to have her safely sleeping with us as a double bed gets crowded when you have no spare bed.

Yes you can have all sides up and slide the 4th down as and when you want (ie put baby down of an evening with side up then when you go to bed lower it with ease) though it was fairly loud and can sometimes disturb LO

yes you can breastfeed lay down into it if you follow the instructions for the floor bed door (still have it attached to the bed as in the instructions but the door has a removable bar that can create a barrier if left in) though this removes the function of lifting the 4th side, though my little monkey slept safely like this for months untill she started walking when I didn’t want to take the risk.

It does come with a mattress though it is a slight bit firm. A standard cot mattress will fit if you so wish.

It can be used as a free standing cot and a floor bed wherever you please! So yes extremely versitile.

The only down side is it is a complete faff to set up! But once it’s done it’s done. We have a divan bed but I do feel it would be easier for a framed bed. That and the cost.

Over all this gave me much needed sleep in desperate times so if you think it suits your little family I strongly recommend!

Hi we're seriously looking into getting this but really need a bit more info. Hardly anywhere seems to stock this or display this and the staff aren't in stores aren't too sure. I can't get in touch with chicco for more info.

So im praying you can help please (or anyone else who has this product please!)

Firstly - Can I ask how big the mattress is? John Lewis website lists this as 120x60 cm mattress which made us think this is the size of a standard cot. This would be perfect.
Is that correct? Is that what size yours is? I would assume so with you saying you could maybe switch the mattress for another standard one.
However when we went to view this crib in mamas and papas today it was definitely smaller than that and the product label said the mattress is 110x58cm. It was also a funny shape (had little grooves to fit the crib edges) so couldn't be swapped for a standard mattress.

The size of mattress concerns us for 2 reasons:

We have the option to get a second hand one but if the mattress is a non standard size it removes the possibility of getting a fresh one for our baby (nowhere seems to stock this funny size, not even chicco spares website and neither we or stockists are able to get in touch with chicco) and also the smaller size reduces the longevity I think as our baby is already hitting the sides with his arms at 8mo (we lay him down in the shop today to try it and he didn't look very roomy at all). We're currently bedsharing and I think he sleeps better that way because of all the space but our set up isn't really safe.

I hope your can shine some light on this mattress/size query as I'm so confused 🤞🏼
Starting to wonder if there are multiples different models of this? Maybe in different sizes?

Final thing that's got me really confused is another person has this listed for sale secondhand and their personal photos very clearly show the next to me forever crib and they're keen to sell it to us so no reason to try put us off... yet after plenty of back and forth they suddenly said "by the way - you do know this is only for up to 1 year olds don't you? That's what the label said". So I'm very confused now. Which crib do they have? Confused

How did you connect the material strap to your Divan in order to be able to have the side down as theirs some mechanism that stops it?

currently just have it next my bed without being able to bring the side down 😪

Lro82 · 30/06/2022 07:14

I had one and it was super go Co sleeping, the divider can go up and down easy, though there is a lip formed by it do if your wanting to breastfeed you need to take the divider off (as if in floor sleeping mode) then attach to the bed or so I read somewhere, it's not in the chicco instructions. Disadvantage to this is that you then can't put the side up so they are secure if your leaving them in there for naps 🤷🏻‍♀️. Depends what your routine/ set up is.

I bought this with my 4th and wush I had it from the outset. 100% worth the money. It attaches to the bed really securely and the sides are nice and high.

Good luck x

Lro82 · 30/06/2022 07:16

Just as a side note - I never trued with the divider off I read a post from some who had done that to feed so not 100% on it but can't see why it wouldn't work. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Amylouise1903 · 08/03/2023 21:22

Used until 21 months then my son cpuks
climb over so took legs off until he went into a toddler bed in his own room then, I’d say it’s definitely worth it for longer in the room for bad sleepers etc but found the mattress not all that soft so had a topper made for about £20 in 110 x 60 using now for my new baby the same until he needs a toddler bed I know it says age 4 but we didn’t want it past the 2 year mark

Amylouise1903 · 08/03/2023 21:25

also I’d say the little edge where the side is down makes it safe for baby, as when it’s feed time you’d need to get up to do nappy anyway and feed on you

Likethefish35 · 31/03/2023 07:08

Hi there, where did you get your topper from please? I’ve been looking for one everywhere but the size isn’t standard! Thanks!

Amylouise1903 · 31/03/2023 11:40

I used bedtime comforts you can add a note on the cot mattress topper to make any size you need I find it’s best to ask for 110 x 58 and depth either 8-10 cm to fit around and then I put my waterproof cover on top then the sheet if you go on the website it’s under cot bedding then tick toppers but you can also phone them for advice too I bought the cheaper topper to try and was around £17.50 posted, I also bought a cot mattress thinner topper off Amazon which is listed as Cot Mattress Topper Protector in Cosy Fleece for Extra Comfort and Warmth - 120 x 60 cm and that fits over it aswell and just a bit extra down the sides around it that’s the one I’m using as it’s made it that slightly bit more comfortable the bedtime comforts one is better for 6 months plus as it’s not as flat, the bedtime comforts one is the same sort of feel as a very thin quilt with filling in but I just bought both to try and I also use any cot sheets that are 120 x 60 and stretch more underneath :) hope that helps xxx

Does anyone have any experience of using this with 18 months + ?

My toddler is a beaver and eats through her cot when I put her down lr if she takes in the night terrified she will choke, this looks like a great option on the floor but fully closed. Anyone recommend or not?

Thank you x
