Ikea Hemnes day bed

I'm intent on do ion updating my daughter's room, now that she's almost 3.
She currently has the Leksvik stuff.
I'm thinking of this:

It could be like a sofa to sit on. But mattress isn't standard so would have to buy a slightly small one from
JL - or just the standard Ikea one ( only simple foam comes in the size to fit this).

Also wondering what peoples experience of selling old nursery furniture has been.

I bought it for ds. I think it is too high and too narrow to be used at a proper bed, and I did regret it.

Oh no!
Was it for a child or an adult? It's for my. 3 year old as her everyday bed. Hoping it'll lady until she's a teenager/ beyond.

I got it for him when he was seven. I really wouldn't recommend it. It really is too narrow and certainly wouldn't work for a teenager, unless they kept it as a double bed.

We had this exact bed for DS when we moved him to a bigger room at 18 months. It was absolutely perfect although we did mostly have it extended out using the two Ikea mattresses. It fit us all in for bedtime snuggles and stories and was very helpful at nap time when I needed a snooze too! Grin
It is a little on the narrow side when used as a single- perhaps as it's a little higher than standard, so if this is how you want to use it, I'd say there are better options in IKEA.

I.planned on getting this for dd when she is out.of her cot (coincidentally she has Leksvik stuff too). Didnt realise it was narrower than a standard single - seems perfect size to.klme in the shop!

Just googled and its 10cm thinner than a standard single.

We got one for DS's room when he was about 3. I think it's brilliant. I have slept on it a few times and don't find it too narrow.

We have it for dd (7). It's ace. My 6'6 BIL slept on it on Christmas when he was staying, and thought it was great. Doesn't seem too narrow to me.

And you can get a sprung mattress from IKEA to fit - look at the drop down size menus. I think maybe the SULTAN sprung mattress is the one we have, with foam for the spare. It's great for sleepovers.

I think its fine for as a spare bed, but not for everyday use. But everyone is different!

I did say I loved it, and was gutted it felt that bit too narrow for a really comfortable nights sleep. children fine (but ds is a bean sprout and his legs were always hanging out the bed)

We've got one. It looks good, got good storage. Practical that it extend to a double. BUT if you ever want to use it for an adult it does feel too narrow, and it's quite creaky when you're turning over in bed. For a small child those wouldn't be problems, I don't think.n

We bought the two IKEA mattresses and they are not good quality, as we used it as a sofa in the playroom for a while and the mattresses sagged after a year.

I have one for my 19 year old son and he loves it. Pulls it out as a king size bed when his girlfriend stays. I slept on it the other week as I gave my bed up for another couple who stayed the night and slept really well.

So, I would definitely recommend it. Do buy the mattresses from IKEA and DO get the bottom fitted sheets from IKEA as well as they are made to fit.

Ds1 has one in his room. He is 16, all arms and legs, but still very comfortable in it. I bought the ikea foam mattresses for it and have them one on top of the other...I have discovered that Next deep fitted sheet for single bed is the perfect size to fit over both mattresses and helps keep them together - although they don't slip about at all.
I have just been changing things in the house and doing a garage conversion. There is now an en-suite bedroom with a double bed (hemnes again!) waiting for ds1, but he keeps saying he is quite happy in his own bed for now!
I have recommended it on here and in rl before Halloween Smile

Habbinu, I'm so confused as they said it would only take the right sized foam one. Am deeply disappointed as it looks so great and I can visualise the whole room. However, I can't afford to make any big mistakes.

Ooh - fab info about the next deep-fitting base sheets. Hadn't even thought of that! Can I get an allergy protector one, too?
I'm sure that I'm obsessing far too much about this - but I love the idea of my daughter being able to sit on her bed with a friend to look at books/ play. Her room is small.

This is my dd's bed - she is 13 and we have had it for several years. We have often used it as a double and it is a bit of a faff to get our (lots of huffing / puffing / pulling / shoving!) It has come apart in places too where it has been pulled out so often. On the whole for the price it was ok - it comes in very handy to have a double bed as spare when needed and sleeps adults fine as well as children. I don't regret buying it.

Ah - they've changed the mattresses. YOu used to be able to get at least one sprung mattress that was 80 x 200 - just checked dd's - SULTAN Huglo. THat's a pain. Sorry to have misled you.
