Clothes have really gone up in price!

Sorted out kids spring/summer clothes and nothing from last year fits ds16 or dd14. They’ve picked some bits and I’ve started ordering and already I’m up to just over £1K with a few things still to order plus both dc need new trainers and crocs as feet have also grown. Dreading going through my own clothes as haven’t replaced summer things in several years and I know a few pairs of my linen trousers are threadbare. DH can sort and order his own!
Do you set a budget per dc and say for example you’ve got £400 this season send me some links? Or do you just suck up the cost? I think this has been the most expensive year to date but both kids have grown a lot in the last 12 months.

Christ this thread is eye-opening. Since when do teenagers get to stipulate the brands and number of items they get? Why is it aspirational that they all wear the same hoodie and jumper? Didn't they just come out of school uniform so they they COULD look different from each other? My mum would have told me what I'm getting and what it can cost. I'd get maybe one nice thing but the rest would be cheaper basic stuff. And a 19-year old? Why isn't she buying her own stuff? All the kids could get a Saturday job if they really wanted super-pricey items...and pay for themselves. That's what my niece and nephew do (18&16)

Loads of teens wear fakes

Also the teens where i live (affluent commuter belt) team plain/cheap basics (teeshirts etc) with a branded hoody. They buy a lot second hand, they also buy loads of cheap stuff like primark, shein.

There is also a distinct subset of more confident teams who don't give a fig if they are supposed to have those nike trainers.

I know lots of teenage boys who simply do not care at all what they wear.

This post is indicative of why we have so many spoilt and entitled teenagers! Over indulgent parenting at its worst.

Up in price yet down in quality ☹️

Think you're getting a bit of backlash here. Clothes have gone up in price. My dis's were both 6ft 2 and size 13 at that age- men's sizes are expensive. You buy because you don't want them to be the odd one out. However you have to shop around! There are many places you can buy genuine branded items at a fraction of the price. I personally find JD Sports expensive, shop around and you'll get more for your money.

Croissantcup · 27/03/2025 06:21

FYI the crocs website has a sale. Adult crocs around £35ish

Use discount codes and shop around. Some places will have the same or similar at cheaper price points.

BottomlessBrunch · 27/03/2025 06:39

If you know anyone with a blue light card OP, that can be used to get discount off lots of places like Nike, Schuh, JD etc

Teen clothing is hard.
I live in an area which is very brand dependent. Sad but it's true also agree with the more deprived an area where brands are seen as a way to fit in.

My ds will wear some plain unbranded items (not trainers though) such as plain joggers/hoody which helps keep costs down. Plain is fine but wearing the 'wrong' brand round here would be challenging for them.
