Help with universal credit

Little bit of a back story all of my bills come to £1,590 a month this includes everything but food shopping and anything else I will need during the month. So universal credit give me £1444 a month as you've probably already been able to work out my bills equal More then how much I receive. My partner who has his own house and does not live with me kindly gives me £600 a month for weekly food shopping and to stop myself using my unarrange overdraft. I'm worried as I've seen seen that uc are asking for bank statements, will I get in trouble for having my partner send me money? I can prove that my partner has his own house, pays his own bills extra

Good old tax payers don't mind supporting you at all. At least you are honest about it!

What is it I am doing wrong? Do you move in with someone as soon as you start seeing them? Thought not.

Is this true?

No it isn't true. "Not working" doesn't automatically mean 100% CT reduction. It is completely income based. There may be a contribution at least expected. Upthread another poster also stated being on UC means automatic council tax support. Also wrong information. Some UC claimants also have income from working and in many cases whilst they may have a UC claim may also be liable for full or near full council tax. As benefits advice is my profession it worries me when I see these blanket statements of wrong information.

As my disabled DC are now over 18 I get CA and basic UC which together total £550 pcm. My basic expenditure is far higher just for necessary bills. The court have just ordered maintenance pending suit but as this is deducted pound for pound I will lose entitlement to UC.

Your partner may not be living with you but his regular payment of £600 pcm is unearned income (not a one off gift) and could be deducted pound for pound backdated to the start of your claim.

You are playing with fire. Have you disclosed this income? Don’t wait for them to catch you. You could end up with pound for pound reduction plus reduction for overpayment.

The fact of it being a regular monthly payment and not child maintenance will trigger a red flag, for sure. It will not be seen as gifting. Bear in mind UC have now extended their requirements for information about all income and savings even including money in PayPal accounts, regular online selling etc. They are not going to ignore a regular payment like this. It is also likely HMRC will be interested somewhere along the line.

Hi , I am getting divorced and disabled . I applied for uc and at the appointment I got offered an advance which was 601 pound. Is this what I will receive when I get my award ? . I know I may also be entitled to 400 something for the limited work element. Anyone know if 601 will be my monthly award. Than you.

Yes the advance amount is generally approximately equivalent to your monthly award prior to deductions.
