How are so many sailing through sky rocketing prices?

DH and I on just above average salaries, very grateful for what we have, kids, own home which we can afford to keep warm, enough food etc, swimming lessons for kids, toys etc and I know we are extremely fortunate … however when it comes to house maintenance, furniture, cars, and even just the extras like occasional trips to the cinema/pantomine, meals out, local events, birthday parties etc, the prices are getting more and more extortionate despite using every voucher scheme going etc. Most people we know seem to be still affording all this despite being on the same salaries or less and with less debt. Just wondering how, I know of people who seem to get regular large cash gifts off wealthier relatives or had inheritances in the past which meant they have a lower mortgage, is this how people seems to be affording it or are we just missing something?

I am with you on all of this.

DH & I would like a second child which we are postponing for a few years now, (if ever). I am 31 so have got a few years to decide but I see everyone with 2/3 children so easily and wonder how they can afford it.

On a practical side- panto tickets, (this jumped out at me from the OP as its a trick ive done for many years) booked well well well in advance. That means you can get the cheapest best seats possible. Ie front row of the top of the theatre instead of 5 rows back, top row for the same money.

Sounds daft but I have already got my seats booked for Dec 2025.

You might see someone out shopping with bags, that could be saved up for, birthday cash or even on a credit card

You could see me out in a nice place having a £10 glass of wine:the reality is i probably do that once a month.

Someonw dressed in decent labels that they buy from vinted at a fraction of the cost

Fancy cars every 3 years which are on finance/lease not actually paid for.
