Lidl do a Nivea Q10 alike face cream I like, £1.50 I think. Also a pump top cleanser which is effective and only lightly fragrance for about the same price. And their packs of cotton wool pads are good too.
I like Baileys, and find the Lidl own brand irish cream almost as good.
M&S ketchup, and most sauces are nice.
All of the Morrisons own brand detergents, washing up liquid and cleaning sprays are excellent and cheap, imo.
I've been to Lidl today and bought a tin of Christmas shortbread, panettone and dates and shelled walnuts. I just don't think there's much difference in quality for these items in say M&S. I will though be going to M&S for my meat, veg and a few other things for the big day.

Aldi version of Pimms, ketchup, their Muller Corner style yogurts, and almond milk
Morrisons basic range crunchy peanut butter.
Waitrose Fruit and Fibre cereal.
Sainsburys stuffing balls and pigs in blankets for Christmas.
Home Bargains for Christmas nut selections.

GreenSmithing · 09/12/2024 14:34

Aldi Lacura spa bath float is a dupe for the five times more expensive Sanctuary bath float, and I can't tell the difference...

Tesco tinned soup is as good as Heinz (Lidl’s is not).
Lidl KitKat knock offs are better than the real thing

Nellieinthebarn · 10/12/2024 14:43

I use Aldi own brand for all cleaning and laundry stuff, its perfectly fine.

SweetLathyrus · 10/12/2024 17:01

I second @Chocolately on the Lidl moisturisers - I swapped to them from Clarins/Clinique after trying to trade down to Olay/Loreal etc. The Lidl ones have suited my skin much better.

Lidl dishwasher tabs, also good (DH hasn't complained anyway).

Chickdaft · 10/12/2024 22:23

Aldi or Lidl for all laundry, I use powder and it’s great, same with their dishwasher tabs.
Also use their tomato sauce which is fine. Same with dried herbs , spices etc.
For binliners I can’t beat home bargains as 50 on a roll for something like 2 or 3.99. Proper liners you don’t stick your finger through inserting in bin or on removal.
B & M for large bottles of domestos. Can’t buy them local and the own brand does not work the same. Most other non brands I will give a go in anything else.
Only one or two others I can’t replicate and that’s mayonnaise. Has to be hellmans or Heinz depending on which is on offer. Not tried the Aldi or Lidl ones as don’t want to waste it if not up to par.

Friendofdennis · 10/12/2024 22:59

Lidl or aldi laundry products. ‘Wonky’ soft fruit from aldi which tastes just as good as ‘perfect’ fruit

practicepracticepractice · 10/12/2024 23:01

Aldi mature cheddar

DD prefers Aldi frozen strawberries to the Waitrose ones

Friendofdennis · 10/12/2024 23:05

The Christmas offerings from Lidl are lovely : favorina florentines are crisp and brittle in a very satisfying way. The chocolate covered almonds are gorgeous as are the caramelised almonds and many other delights in the favorina range. Just as nice as m and s chocolates

twohotwaterbottles · 10/12/2024 23:05

Aldi blue tin baked beans. Delish and not a billion pounds a tin like Heinz

Gooddaysarecoming · 12/12/2024 01:31

Morrisons Savers Hard cheese ( similar to parmesan), tastes really nice, under £2, bought a few times now, grates nicely

HaroldMeaker · 12/12/2024 11:29

Lidl ground coffee, I get the Sumatran and it's delicious, just like Lavazza and only about £2.20

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 12/12/2024 20:03

The only things I don’t buy ‘own brand’ or a cheap version of are -
sausages
bacon (pay extra for thick cut)
teabags
coffee
fairy liquid
shampoo / conditioner
binbags

I think everything else is own brand or second-from-cheapest version

suki1964 · 15/12/2024 08:27

Home Bargains Bacon. 1kg ( 20 rashers ) thick cut bacon -£4.99
Lidl washing powder
Lidl Batts range of sauces
Lidl Simply Tomatoes
Lidl Newgate Baked Beans
Lidl Extra Mature Chedder
Lidl Parmesan

Those are all really stand out products for me. But I stopped buying branded years ago other then Fairy and head and shoulders

HappyHolidai · 15/12/2024 08:32

Sainsbury's Stamford St (basics) porridge oats. Just the same as the pricier ones but cheaper!

nomchonge1 · 16/12/2024 13:30

own brand cereals always so much cheaper and just as good / sometimes less salt and sugar

MissyPants · 16/12/2024 14:10

Lidl/Aldi 1000%
Their knock offs are really really good.
Aveeno (dupe) hand cream for around 80 pence, Jo Malone copy candles £3.99 or whatever, zero coke 0.48p or there abouts, what isn't there to love? Nando's dupe sauces dead cheap.
Don't even get me started on the lovelyyyy knock off Christmas favoured Bailey's either... who in their right mind needs to buy the real deal?
I am an avid bargain hunter which is why I just love Lidl & Aldi.

FuckItItsFine · 16/12/2024 14:12

Morrisons fruit scones are so beautiful.

Just got some Rose scented candles from Aldi and they’re the closest thing to Jo Malone I’ve found so far.

Sainsbury’s red label teabags.

heartbroken22 · 18/12/2024 18:23

I love the Aldi almat laundry detergent and the laundry powder. Both the bio and non bio.

Aldi dark chocolate digestives are great too.

Mark's and Spencer tinned soups. Especially the cream of tomato. Utterly delicious and much cheaper than Heinz

Also Marks baked beans, about 50p a tin, and really nice. Although I don't really think of M&S as 'own brand' 😁

LimeLime · 18/12/2024 19:32

Lidl sandwich bags and Lidl freezer bags are the very best, and good value.

Agreed. I actually think when you weigh up quality and price they are better for most stuff than lidl etc
