Cheap but good quality towels?

Need to replace all the towels in the house - they’re awful, mismatched and no longer soft!
but I can’t find anything affordable really..

so, any recommendations for hand and bath towels but good quality?

How cheap?

BanksysSprayCan · 02/10/2024 08:37

M&S ones are good quality for the price, but depends on your budget.

Saisong · 02/10/2024 08:38

We've have some Primark ones that have lasted years, still thick and absorbent.

TheCentreCannotHold · 02/10/2024 08:39

eBay! Lots of bundles of unwanted gifts etc, and also, if you're like me and not too fussed about other people's clean, freshly showered bodies, actual used sets going for an absolute pittance.

Matildahoney · 02/10/2024 08:39

I also came to say Primarks are great, I replaced my Christy towels with them.

viques · 02/10/2024 08:39

Cheap towels are cheap for a reason, look for better quality ones at a cheaper price. TKMAXX?

MiddleAgedDread · 02/10/2024 08:40

Mine are from Sainsburys and have lasted for years.

ChocolateLemsip · 02/10/2024 08:40

Dunelm seem pretty good for the price

Justmuddlingalong · 02/10/2024 08:41

Asda

KnickerlessParsons · 02/10/2024 08:42

Sainsbury's.

HighPrecisionGhosts · 02/10/2024 08:44

Dunelm towels are ususlly ok, wash ok and dont get thin quickly, or look in TKMaxx you might get lucky.

bluecomputerscreen · 02/10/2024 08:47

why do you need to replace them?
mismatch is fine, they will still do their job.

cotton towels get harder over time if not tumble dried. it's just a fact of life. no need to replace them.
microfibre towels stay softer but are rubbish at drying.

Haroldwilson · 02/10/2024 08:57

Hammam towels like this https://amzn.eu/d/1skpdzS

Cheap, dry fast, can use on beach. Mine have lasted six years or so and still good.

Generally, you get what you pay for.

Malaguena123 · 02/10/2024 08:59

The towels with the lines in them from IKEA - cheap and they dry super quickly!

Humdrumdumb · 02/10/2024 09:07

I’ve got 4 bath sheets from Dunelm on constant rotation for 2 of us. They are used for at least one shower a day each and washed weekly. I’ve had them since 2009 and they are still thick and soft (after finding the perfect towel washing technique 😀)

outforawalkbiatch · 02/10/2024 09:27

My Asda ones have lasted 17 years and still going strong

Well, obviously, we all need to hear the towel washing technique! Don't hold out on us!

Button28384738 · 02/10/2024 09:36

I have a couple of H&M ones, they're good!

Also John Lewis if you can get some in the sales! Very nice and soft

BIWI · 02/10/2024 09:37

Agree with Dunelm and Asda. Lovely, long-lasting towels from both of them, which were really good value.

SatsumaCat · 02/10/2024 09:39

Primark - recommended on here a few years ago and the ones we got are good.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 02/10/2024 10:08

I haven't tried these yet but I've been eyeing them up since I found out about them- decent price and they specify the GSM count of their towels: www.absolutehometextiles.co.uk/bath-sheets/

Blackbutler86 · 02/10/2024 10:15

Well, obviously, we all need to hear the towel washing technique! Don't hold out on us!

60 degree wash
About 2/3 of the amount of non bio washing powder recommended on the packet
White vinegar instead of fabric conditioner
Extra spin cycle at highest speed
Shake out well
Hang outside if you can or inside if it’s raining
Before they are fully dry, put in tumble drier for 10 minutes on hot (and I often end up with 10 minutes cool at the end of the cycle because I go off and forget about them)
Hang them up again to air
Fold and put away

If I think that they will dry fully before I have a chance to give them their 10 minute tumble dry, I’ll do that at the beginning. Potentially tumble drying all the way would have the same effect but a) there is the risk of over drying, which I don’t like, and b) it uses more electricity, which I’m trying to be more aware of

Complete faff but lovely soft towels and there are only two of us 😊
