I got caught shoplifting

1000 replies

RoseBiscuitll · 09/09/2024 15:02

I really didn't know what topic to choose for this

I'm mortified, I got caught shoplifting in boots today, I was stealing baby milk and a facial moisturiser. I'm so ashamed of myself. It was in the city center aswell. They didn't call police but they took my details, took a picture and told me I can't return to the store again

Will this picture and my details go around to the other shops near by or will it just go to the other boots shops.

I can't believe I was stupid enough to do this! I'm so embarrassed and also feel really guiltily!

How do you know there are no starving babies? Do you work for the Office of National Statistics or something?

If a baby starves to death in this country that is 100% neglect and not financial when the government is paying for the babies milk

Most people on benefits do have enough though, if they budget correctly. That's my point. It might not be a very nice budget, it might involve some very bland meals and other sacrifices, but it can be done. It does need a mindset change for many though.

Have you ever been on benefits?

If benefits are enough to live on, then why are people going to food banks?

Surely we should close all the food banks since they're unnecessary and tell everyone to just try harder to not to be poor.

This is nonsense you tell yourself to make yourself feel better. It simply isn't reality.

I'm trying to work out if you're lacking critical thinking skills or being willfully obtuse.

You have no proof of that. You're stating opinions, please stop trying to dress them up as facts.

I have never said poverty is people's own fault. People don't need my empathy they need practical help which they have been given on this thread by being aware of services available, benefits to apply for and the importance of working to change their situation. Most foods can go together to make a meal it doesn't have to be fine dining it just has to be food. Food banks are for short term emergency use not a lifestyle

Oh. My. God.

Did you really just imply food banks are looked on as a lifestyle choice?

ns87 · 10/09/2024 13:11

Kelly51 · 10/09/2024 12:32

Surely the father should be paying out more, and not just getting away with it because he works cash in hand.
why do people always keep trotting this out? you cannot get £ out of someone like this through CMS, OP cannot force him to pay her. I honestly wonder how people are so naive.

Surely the Dad can't just refuse to pay anything for their own child.

Differentstarts · 10/09/2024 13:11

So baby milk costs on average £10 a tub you get £8.50 a week healthy start vouchers £25.60 a week child benefit. £333 a month child element of universal credit. So can someone please explain to me how when the government is literally paying for the babies food people on here are saying it's not neglect if a baby starves to death in this country

The depths some people will go to is astounding, isn't it?

She'll be along asking what's wrong with chickpeas mixed with chicken soup and lasagna sheets for dinner every night because it's still food.

Honestly, it's just blatantly wanting to punish people for daring to not have enough. Along with a desire for superiority over the feckless oiks, I suspect.

I was replying to someone saying food from a foodbank is not sustainable to live on. Which obviously it's not as its not meant to be it's for emergencies not to live on

The emergency being that you don't have enough money to live on. Because prices are high and benefits are low.

But benefits aren't their to replace jobs their, their to help at times of need if benefits get anymore generous working a minimum wage job will become very unappealing very fast

Of course it is, as said the op chooses to spunk 250 a month on a spare room. For her 6 month old baby, we all know her kid can share with her till 2 or 3. She says she’s working again when the kid turns one. The two bed is a choice. You can get a fuck ton of milk for an extra 250

Differentstarts · 10/09/2024 12:36

So what's your problem with cheap items that the general public has donated taking into account people like me also buy these in our actual weekly shops as most working families can't afford to buy everything branded and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a tin of aldi baked beans or chopped tomatoes

Some of the food is out of date. Will you be happy eating gone off food everyday?

It may be past it's best before date it won't be past it's use by date as that's illegal

I've seen it with my own eyes. Tins that are a year out of date.

Ivehearditbothways · 10/09/2024 13:25

@NasiDagang
I eat “gone off” food all the time and I’m doing fine for money. Stuff in tins is still perfect after it’s use by day. Yoghurts, fruit, veg, frozen stuff is all fine after it’s use by. What’s the problem? There isn’t anything wrong with it. I don’t chuck stuff out if I didn’t get round to using it in time.

So what did you do? With this food bank with all the out of date food? Which one was it? I’m sure one of us has been there.
