I got caught shoplifting

1000 replies

RoseBiscuitll · 09/09/2024 15:02

I really didn't know what topic to choose for this

I'm mortified, I got caught shoplifting in boots today, I was stealing baby milk and a facial moisturiser. I'm so ashamed of myself. It was in the city center aswell. They didn't call police but they took my details, took a picture and told me I can't return to the store again

Will this picture and my details go around to the other shops near by or will it just go to the other boots shops.

I can't believe I was stupid enough to do this! I'm so embarrassed and also feel really guiltily!

No, she wanted to spend it on “somthkng else like food” - not sure what’s “like” food, other than food. Perhaps moisturiser, or a new smart phone contract, or clothes. The rest of us went to charity shops, community kitchens, jumble sales, Facebook marketplace, eBay and the like when we were struggling, rather than knicking stuff we had the money to pay for. The milk voucher and child benefit covers formula costs.

She has explained how the milk voucher doesn’t cover the costs. And babies need more than milk, child benefit is not just for milk.

The ‘like’ is neither here nor there for me, personally.

Thinking of you and your baby OP.

NO, in response to precious posts, your photo will not be used for facial recognition. Some stores do this (Home Bargains, Sports Direct, Flannels) but Boots do not use or share photos for facial recognition.

Please try not to worry as it sounds like no further action will be taken.

It happened, it's done, lesson learned and you can move on - please forgive yourself and focus your energy on looking after yourself and your little one ♥️

Baby milk is one of the most common shoplifted items, apparently.
If you genuinely need food for your baby then please get a food bank referral and speak to your health visitor about your struggles. You may have undiagnosed post natal depression if this is an inexplicable act for you.

@LissaGa

yes it is because it sells really quickly and pulls people in to 'paying it off' with interest & gain them a new client victim.

then they drag others in to steal for them, to pay their debt off, and drag yet another victim in.

@RoseBiscuitll

don't get dragged into this type of shit.

there will be help out there if you need baby milk.

there are also toiletries at food bank & beauty banks. Moisturiser is not work screwing up your life over!!

OP, don't beat yourself up. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do to survive. Nobody on this forum knows what you are going through Flowers

How many times have you said the word "naiveté" today,

You haven't worked in retail have you ?

"Shrinkage" can be calculated and contribute to price rises

Nowt to do with the greedy energy companies protecting their profit margin, no?

How do you know this?

I know thay boots do use facial recognition as the security guard said that's what he was taking my picture for. But I'm just bot sure if that will get sent to other shops near by, and now I'm going to be to nervous to go into those shops.

(And not not to shoplift)

Wasn't there a woman in the US who fainted in a shop car park and it turned out she'd stolen a frozen chicken and hidden it under her hat so got brain freeze? May be an urban myth though....

🙄🙄 if everybody did, would be a different story.

I would never resort to shoplifting. I would do anything but that to get money or find help.

There will always be someone willing to help you, people can be kind.

Devils advocate here, not having a personal pop, but when you say you would do anything, would you sell your body to random men?

I didn't say anything about energy companies and their effect.

I said, in fact, shrinkage DOES add to price rises.

Fact.

Halloumiheaven · 09/09/2024 23:02

"Shrinkage" can be calculated and contribute to price rises

Boots profits surge: Pre-tax profits rose more than 42% at the health and beauty retailer to £237.6m for the year to 31 August 2023, largely due to higher profit margins.”

TLDR: price rises caused by corporate greed, not shoplifting.
