The cost of kids pyjamas!

Enchantedlilypad · 22/08/2024 13:14

I was In M&S today and picked up 3 pairs of new pyjamas for my 4 year old DD and they cost £44!!

Yes I know I could have gone to a different shop and I do usually buy most of her clothing off of Vinted or Asda etc but I happened to be in M&S and I liked them.

How can 3 pairs of 4 year olds pyjamas from a supermarket shop cost £44, everything is so expensive.

OP posts:
Wouldhavebeenproficient · 22/08/2024 13:48

I like Matalan for kids' pyjamas.

SmallTownWay · 22/08/2024 13:49

I bought my friends 5 year old daughter some for £8.50 and £10.50 in M&S last month so there are cheaper ones than the ones you bought.

Hayley1256 · 22/08/2024 13:49

I don't think this is to do with cost of living, you chose a more expensive option. Plenty of cheaper good quality pj's out there. I like the m&s ones but know I'm paying more for them

Enchantedlilypad · 22/08/2024 13:46

Yes I bought 3 individual pairs rather than the 3 pack, I know you can get cheaper pairs/sets from M&S as I have got them before.

I suppose I was just shocked at the price for children's pyjamas, I usually buy from Vinted for multiple reasons.

I agree that clothing from M&S etc lasts longer and is better quality.

I don't really understand your post then. You chose more expensive ones even though cheaper ones were available from the same shop.

You can get much cheaper and much more expensive kids pyjamas than those in M&S. It's like anything else.

MaryMary6589 · 22/08/2024 13:53

Coincidentally I've had this exactly same thought this week too. I've been all over the Internet looking for PJs and was really shocked at the cost in comparison to shorts, t shirts etc. I also wanted to avoid plastic prints on the front because that can't be comfortable! Also shocked at the cost in comparison to adult PJs.

DrinkElephants · 22/08/2024 14:01

M&S aren’t supermarket clothes. I also don’t think £44 is much for 3 pairs? That’s just under £15 a pair which seems about right to me.

silverjackal · 22/08/2024 14:11

That sounds like quite a low price to be honest, for well made clothes.

Normallynumb · 22/08/2024 14:15

M&S is always know to be more expensive
There are multipacks available cheaper, but I agree clothing is more expensive overall especially as children grow so quickly

MrsStottlemeyer · 22/08/2024 14:15

I don't think £15 a pair is extortionate for decent quality pyjamas.

Bilbonne · 22/08/2024 14:19

This thread should be in AIBU or chat, it's not really for the cost of living board

DinnaeFashYersel · 22/08/2024 14:20

M&S isn't a supermarket.

You want ASDA or Tesco for cheap supermarket clothing.

Caspianberg · 22/08/2024 14:26

I buy Ds petit bateau ones on sale. €11 recently. Last ones lasted a good 2 years before he outgrew.
They are about €45 not on sale. So if I see the next sizes up also I will buy in advance ( I also skip a size so he wear bigger at first and grows into)

Speedweed · 23/08/2024 01:03

Pjs seem to be expensive across all shops, not just m and s. It's hard to find any under around £10, which seems wildly expensive compared to buying a tshirt and shorts. My theory is that shops know people aren't buying them secondhand, so they subsidise the other stuff they sell.

Pootle40 · 23/08/2024 08:10

I actually don't think that's expensive .....

Bjorkdidit · 24/08/2024 06:36

So what are you saying OP? No shop should be able to sell anything you think is expensive?

That's like me going M&S and seeing that they also sell a small piece of artisan cheese for £8 and starting a thread complaining that the cost of living crisis means no-one can afford to buy cheese any more.

M&S themselves sell cheaper pyjamas, or there are other shops that are cheaper. Or you can buy in the sales or on Vinted or eBay.

It's not like M&S deciding to sell these particular pyjamas for £14/15 a set means that you and anyone else or can't or don't want to pay this price for pyjamas can't buy any.

Edingril · 24/08/2024 06:47

How are they supermarket clothing?

I like M&S (and Next and John Lewis) but find Asda lasts just as well for kids clothes.

OP - I haven't read the whole thread but if you had a Sparks account then there's a offer of 15% off kids nightwear that expires in the next few days.

TickingAlongNicely · 24/08/2024 06:56

Cheap... b&m, tesco, asda, aldi, lidl, h&m, sainsburys, morrisons, primark

Mid range... Next, M&S

Top range.... designer?

Wait until they get to teens... it cost me £15 each for PE leggings for my 11&13yos. Navy sports leggings are surprisingly difficult to find.

mitogoshi · 24/08/2024 06:57

Even M&S has cheaper ones, 3 pair pack is £26

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 24/08/2024 06:58

Reasonable price for good quality pyjamas. It shouldn't be a surprise that M&S is more expensive than supermarket clothes. M&S is not s supermarket.

Cuwins · 24/08/2024 07:36

I don't think that's particularly expensive for M&S pjs brought at full price.
I would normally only buy them in the sale or with a discount voucher.
The only pair I have brought full price were a Christmas present for my daughter- Paddington ones as she loves him!
They do seem to last well though.

rainbowunicorn · 24/08/2024 17:26

happypickle · 22/08/2024 13:47

Hmm

That's what clothes should cost?? Low income families should perhaps go without clothes then..:

Nobody said that but the fact is clothing prices in this country has been kept low for many years now due to poor practices within the fast fashion market. People are literally dying in other parts of the world to make cheap clothes for us.

Cardamomandlemons · 20/10/2024 22:59

I love asda jammies. My kid wears through the knees of many asda trousers, because he is active all day, but the jammies stay nice (cuz he is finally peaceful by bedtime)
