All welcome, the vibe is frugal life to make the things that matter possible, which is different for everyone, some of us have overcome debt, separations etc. All are friendly and we're sometimes chatty, sometimes quiet.

Old mortgage company said to cancel direct debit so that's a relief

Yep. I just said that to DH. No time to think before on to the next apppintment.

it’s so surreal. Because I don’t feel poorly.

needastrongoneagain · 20/08/2024 15:01

Much love Em.

I know only too well the 'is this a really shit dream' feeling re DH's stroke. I still feel a bit like that sometimes. You will no doubt be in this weirdly out of body but life going on as normal strange world. Kids to feed, sort, cat face etc. Deal with it in whatever way works for you. I'm a compartmentalise sort of a gal and can only open the emotional box every so often. DD lets it out. DS nothing out. There's no right or wrong.

And sometimes even 5 minutes at a time is okay, never mind a day xx

needastrongoneagain · 20/08/2024 15:02

I lost track of the thread but am on track financially with no big spends coming up (hopefully).

NSD.

Timetoswitch · 20/08/2024 19:07

Big hug to you em

I need to stop lurking and get back on the thread. Holiday spends whilst away weren’t too bad but…

£85 on 2 lots of school shoes
£281 on school uniform (all the logo stuff/ blazer etc)
£22 on lunch bags and stationery

Alfiemoon1 · 20/08/2024 23:25

Hi all it's been a while as I am dealing with an awful family situation with dsis and elderly dm so hoping to use this friendly group as a distraction and get me back on track to curb my spending

Em I am so sorry to hear your news I hope you are ok and it's really good it's been caught early

Unescorted · 21/08/2024 17:33

em that is crappy news.

needastrongoneagain · 21/08/2024 18:35

Sorry to hear about the difficulties within the family situation @Alfiemoon1. No stranger to family stress.

How are you doing @ememem84 today?

Circa £22 spends today. Oat milk bulk buy and a few bits from the local shop.

ememem84 · 21/08/2024 18:51

what we know so far. It’s “average and no special type” which is the most common one. Which means it’s treatable. It’s going to be a shit few months. But I’ll get there.

soends £36 dunelm. Bought a v shaped pillow.

Starlight40 · 21/08/2024 19:19

@ememem84 Glad they have caught it early and you are starting treatment.x

Alfiemoon1 · 21/08/2024 21:58

Glad they caught it early and treating it quickly for you Em

Spends today £300 lent to ds 19 as he's going to Leeds festival tomorrow and due to being an idiot he quit his job a few weeks ago over them being funny with him over having the time off which they had already approved in the holiday book in November when he booked the tickets. He is working a few nights a week cash in hand but is under strict instructions he has to look for another job next week when he gets back as I've already paid his insurance this month already and a fine for going in a bus lane

So expensive day and i haven't even left the house as I was wfh

My son is off to Leeds. He left last night. Messaged me at 6am to say his tent is up. I’ve not spent loads this week. £10 in the traditional sweet shop. My daughter had her friend sleep over and whenever take her we all get something. Spent £10 on some chips for lunch for 4 of us yesterday and today I want to pop to Dunelm for a 2 tier airer that I keep seeing advertised on Facebook. I’m determined not to use my tumble dryer for drying underwear just because it is quicker.x

Rainbow1901 · 22/08/2024 09:29

@ememem84 Glad you are starting your treatment quickly and the port will make life so much easier. Are you cold capping? x

Happierwithouthim · 22/08/2024 11:25

€20 dd for amusements this evening, her first time going without me Confused

€140 endocrinologist

Starlight dm wants an airer but I want her to measure cupboard it will be stored in before sourcing it as the last one didn't fit & she has a lovely new kitchen & utility and an airer hanging around will only spoil that

Least you've got some to put somewhere by the sounds em, it's a humiliating experience having a mammogram for me 🤣🤣.

Fingers crossed for you. You'll do this, no trouble.

Minimal spends again - about £50 on shopping as we had some left of the budget but none strictly necessary.

We are all full of snot and feeling grotty. Be glad to get to bed tonight.

We are very close to Leeds Fest. It's a long weekend for residents 🤣

Happierwithouthim · 22/08/2024 16:22

Well I've survived the time between finishing being paid weekly and getting paid monthly. I get paid next Thurs & my budget categories still look healthy!

@needastrongoneagain 36E. Although apparently I can’t be trusted with them…..!

good positive news. MRI results back and it’s “just” in the booby. Phew. Weight off my mind.

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/08/2024 18:00

Loads of dds friends are there this weekend need. Roll out the ear plugs.

Good news just boob em.

Happierwithouthim · 22/08/2024 19:49

I’ve never been to Leeds fest. Done Reading a few times.

Spends today:

£258 next on Amex (dhs) on school shoes for the dc. Pants for ds. A bag for dd. And a leopard print denim skirt and some pjs for me. <cough cough I’m sick> bought the dc 4 pairs of shoes each - 2 different styles in 2 different sizes. Keeping one pair each. Had to do this because they weren’t with me and also next is one of the only places here which sells school shoes now that Clarks has closed.

£33 shoe zone. Trainers for the dc. Again one pair each. But two sizes. The wrong ones will go back.

£20 three non wired bras in M&S for me. Had £45 vouchers from my credit card.

lunch with dsis. £53 but technically free because I used my pub loyalty points.

£33 boots. Shampoo for DH and the dc. Some painkillers. And Epsom salts. Joint ac.

oh and £80 ish in schuh for DH. He wanted new Birkenstocks. It’s his birthday on Saturday so got him those.

Alfiemoon1 · 22/08/2024 23:00

Been a long day ds wanted to be up at 4 am as he was being picked up at 6am told him I wasn't setting an alarm for that time as I had work all day and was on the later of the 2 shifts 10-6 but didn't really sleep well heard him in the shower then leaving at 6 am then heard dd leaving for work at 6.45am so gave up and got up did a few jobs before starting work

Spends today £2.50 on a bacon butty as was in the office today and they have a butty van that comes round

Dh payday tomorrow thank god but his car is in for its mot praying it passes as he's only had it less than a year he didn't buy it new but I am not a fan of it anyway and it will annoy me if it costs even more money

Glad you had a good day Em I am dreading when I have to go for mammograms in a few years as I am flat chested

My experience of the mammogram (which I should add I’m about 10 years too young to be on the routine list!) was ok. Yes it was squishy squashy. But not painful. The lovely lady who did it was so unbelievably wonderful and kind and careful.

that said all the medics I’ve met so far have been amazing. Really wonderful. Cannot fault them.

ct scan today. And as of now I’m not allowed to eat anything and need to drink at least 2 litres of water. Apt is at 11 so lunch after. Then I need to tell dparents. Because they’ve been away on hols this week……what need to come back to!

“SUPRISE”

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/08/2024 14:51

Hope telling dparents goes well em
