All welcome, the vibe is frugal life to make the things that matter possible, which is different for everyone, some of us have overcome debt, separations etc. All are friendly and we're sometimes chatty, sometimes quiet.

The big oven has stopped working, the knob just spins on its spindle and it wont turn on. Annoying rather than dire, as I only use it when I have a baking day or do batch cooking, but it will have to be fixed before christmas. Fingers crossed its repairable, and cheap.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/09/2024 20:20

Rubbish about the car and the oven

nsd today

2024Hackathon · 02/09/2024 22:35

DH's procedure ran late and he had a few complications after it so he's not yet been discharged as he needs to stabilise. (It's coming up for 22:30.)

I'm so glad we booked the hotel. I'll see what the latest checkout is that I can organise and buy some more parking time.

When DH stabilises, he'll be ravenous as he hasn't eaten since Sunday noon. I'll probably need to buy us a very plain takeway as I've not had anything to eat since then either.

Starlight and Nellie, sorry to read about the car and the big oven.

Timetoswitch · 03/09/2024 05:37

I hope DH is ok hack

Boo to the person who had to replace the car, and urrgh about the oven nellie

I’m awake as dealing with Dparent/scammer pain in the butt issue. On the plus side calling the bank fraud team in the early hours, meant I got through straight away. During the day, you sit on hold for 30 mins.

NsD yesterday.

Chile1978 · 03/09/2024 07:54

Oh dear it hasn't been a good start to the day - sorry about car, ovens, bank fraud, and dh procedure @2024Hackathon @Nellieinthebarn @Timetoswitch @Starlight40 💐

First day of school 🏫 today. Have taken it off so I can do drop off and pick up.
Last payment to be for summer childcare (£295)
Had to do a top up shop last night as needed bread and fruit, and then of course ended up with a few extras. Freezer is nearly empty but hoping to stretch out going for the big shop until next month.
Bought some clothes for dc and me on vinted: £30. All needed essentials.
Sold 3 things on vinted: £11
Got lots of things to start listing too, so want to try and make another £19 and be vinted neutral.

ememem84 · 03/09/2024 07:59

our kids go back tomorrow. Thank god. This last week has been awful. They’ve just gone feral.

im off to see the team at macmillan today. The dc are going to the beach with dparents while I’m there. It’s cool today - suns trying to peep through but it’s much cooler.

I love this time of year. I’m back to skirts and jumpers. Dresses and jumpers. The denim jacket has come back out.

ememem84 · 03/09/2024 08:00

Todays fashion statement. Grey sweatshirt with pink glitter dinosaurs. Teamed with a black linen midi skirt and silver trainers. Make it fun!

also this my new plant

I love that sweater, meh let them be feral as long as no one gets hurt
sorry about scammers
hope DH got discharged and you got some rest

need apples and milk

RumBananaSundae · 03/09/2024 13:22

Cripes Star, Hack, Nellie and Time. I hope your days have improved.

Thanks em will try pastries. Love anything pink or glittery.

Good thinking on the Vinted neural Chile. I’m not brave enough to try.

Have been doing a spreadsheet after yesterday to try and get a better idea of what things look like. Don’t think it will be as bad as I feared but it will be painful and who knows once I apply for the mortgage.

Spendy day - paid gas and electric and added £85 to my travelcard. Spent £2.80 (gift card) on tofu in Waitrose yesterday and £2.48 in Lidl today on rum chocolate and onion rings. Didn’t need either. Might spend £3.39 on a TGTG hoping I get pastries. The description says pastries but did a recce and it looks like they have sausage rolls too.

kessiebird · 03/09/2024 17:51

The app on my phone is being odd, thought I'd updated Yesterday but was still sitting in unsent 🤔

Yesterday:
Amazon £7.99 clear ear studs needed for DD return to school
Lidl £10.08 diet coke and dishwasher tabs.

Today: £4 bus fare out of my sundries fund and £2.80 for chocolate and diet coke. Cracked around 4.30pm and went out to the shop.

sorry to hear about your car woes, bank fraud and ovens. Hope today has been better!

And hope DH is okay hack

Hope you got good THTG pastries rum

Enjoy Paris girlie

Love skirts and jumpers style em and that top is lovely. My denim and cord skirts will be out soon ☺️

Happierwithouthim · 03/09/2024 19:52

We've got low spend days & no spends days right? I think today qualifies as a high spend day €4200 on roof materials for my extension. Builder told me last year flat roof would be about a third of the price but it involves maintenance bi annually so I went for a-line same as existing house.

Hack how is dh?

Em hope back to school goes well for dc

Chile how did dc get on?

Time yikes hope you got sorted

Starlight happy driving with new car

Hack how is dh?

He's a little rough but stabilised yesterday evening and is improving.
I'm hopeful this will all settle down. We're waiting on the pathology reports and the follow-up.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/09/2024 08:56

Good he’s stabilised hack.
back to school here lost tie drama and the uniform have sent a girls PE top for DS

spend day yesterday booking next year holiday. All the wrangling for best price have me a migraine

£43 Morrisons only wanted a couple of things but as usual got more. I don’t usually used them but they have the best lo alcohol range so go for that

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/09/2024 09:09

Don’t forget it’s heritage open days coming. Free entry to things usually charged or not open

New creditcards have arrived. DH needs to activate them, then I can renew all my subscriptions (and maybe not renew a few of them).

I finished one step of my ID complications, paying by postal order. It took only a couple of hours in total, but months of emotionsl block. Daft, and I'll distance myself better in future.

Happierwithouthim · 04/09/2024 13:41

Delighted with my Lidl treats & yellow sticker buy this morning.
Picked up a ready meal for lunch & then saw one with 20% off Smile

I wouldn't have bought box of pantyliners normally but I'm not keen on the tampons dd isn't keen on the pads & I'll use or dm will use the pantyliners. They're free!

Free is the best price @Happierwithouthim 😃

Glad dh is feeling better @2024Hackathon

Hopefully there's a few subs that can go @ShortFatShambolicHouseElf

Thanks for the tip @lifelongfrugaleer I will check that out

First days of school have gone well thankfully. Think they are glad of the routine and to see friends.
Various clubs need to be paid for. Sadly two don't take tax free childcare which is a pain

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/09/2024 17:06

Love free

nsd so far

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/09/2024 17:08

Actually that was a total lie £104 boots on Christmas presents. The Christmas threads are busy again

kessiebird · 04/09/2024 17:39

Love the Lidl app happier I've got to use my vouchers in the next three days

£4 bus fares
£2.05 Tesco

Need packed lunch things later.

Sortingmyselfoutdayatatime · 04/09/2024 18:59

£30 petrol but friends bought coffee and cake so I do owe….
decided I’m leaving work in a year. I hate it.we are accidentally caught by ofsted though not a school or college and management are just headless chickens with it
so today was my last 4 September working there.
fuck them

IDontHateRainbows · 04/09/2024 19:29

Coffee out with a friend £3.50. Wolfed a toastie in the car on the way there as otherwise I'd have succumbed to an overpriced sarnie as I was hungry.
Then spent £10 on a photo frame as I'd had one of those mother and daughter photoshoot things on wowcher for £7 and went to pick up the one admittedly very lovely print. My daughter and I do it every year although she's far more photogenic than me. Sometimes I'll pay an extra £25 or so for a second print but this studio wanted £40 more for a tiny print or £50 for a bigger one and I wasn't having it. So having saved on a second print, I bought a lovely frame for a tenner instead.

Chile1978 · 05/09/2024 09:11

I'm desperately trying to avoid the Christmas threads @lifelongfrugaleer 🤣

Need to start writing a list first so I don't get completely side tracked. Thankfully 3niblings are now old enough to just be given money.

Wfh today as trying to get a drs appointment. No luck so far.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/09/2024 10:32

I have a list. I don’t get much as my dc are at the small and costly stage
