If you were referred by help through hardship they do usually look at all the available local food support. More rural areas can have fewer options.

Too good to go app?

Almshouse charity near you?

Anonymous fb request: we had someone on the weekend ask and I took her some soup I'd made, a local community kitchen delivered her food out of hours, locals took supplies and the Almshouse charity gave her £50.

I'll want you now there were some nasty fb comments from dickheads but ignore them.

Do you have a social prescriber at your GP surgery?
Most do but you won't necessarily know about it unless you have needed the service.
This is exactly the sort of thing they can help with - access to food, help with benefits etc. Alongside access to social groups, befriending services and many others.

I'm a GP in Manchester and ours are absolutely amazing.
I know it isn't a medical problem but they can catch people before they become so socially isolated that it becomes a medical problem.
They aren't medically trained but are experts on solving social problems in the local community.
Appreciate it might not help right now but ask the question as there will be other services that can be offered I'm sure.

Our local Co op, the Manager has put on Facebook that anyone needing food should go to their local Co op for help.

I'm an sp, and first, thanks for your kind words. Secondly, yes, we do all we can to help people in financial strife, housing difficulties, anything really. Do ask if there is one at your surgery op.

Also, Google "community fridge" and the name of your closest town(s)

Namechange1990 · 17/06/2024 21:34

am also in devon here, dependent on where you are there is a couple of places that can help the local ymca's have community fridges and if you type local food pantry in there are quite a few around. may not be ideal but its a days meal
