You either have to wait or go to another one.

This ^^

Or all the other usual suggestions of borrowing money from family/friends/checking supermarket points etc.

Asking on your local FB group is another common suggestion on MN.

ETA and some other free food app you might need to Google, as the name escapes me.

Ragwort · 17/06/2024 18:49

Can you phone them? In extreme cases we deliver to families who can't make our FB opening hours.
Do you have a local 'free food' place that doesn't need a referral .. ie supermarket excess stock etc available for anyone who hates food waste.

Ragwort · 17/06/2024 18:50

Ask whoever referred to you the FB? And are you absolutely sure you have nothing to eat, even a couple of tins of beans and a cheap loaf of bread would suffice until Wednesday.

LikeABondVillanDipshit · 17/06/2024 18:51

Are you on Olio the free app?
Ours is always full of food, that people who work for the local supermarkets offer, free for collection.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 17/06/2024 18:57

In my local area there's a food box scheme which has food in various locations in the area that you can access 24/7 if you are in a desperate situation. Its aimed at people in your position. Try looking on Facebook to see if there's anything similar near you.

Yes I have asked they have said they have used our closest one - and that we have to use on our area the one that’s we were referred to.

I know you are desperate but remember food banks are run by volunteers. Ours runs once a week. There are a group of nuns in my local city though that give out emergency food packs, you do need to fetch it though - see if there's something like that. Also if you have an Sikh gudwara then often have lunchtime hot food , look on their website

allmycats · 17/06/2024 19:01

can you ask for an early lunch break from work so that you can go

DeedlessIndeed · 17/06/2024 19:02

We have a great resource if anyone needs this kind of help in Glasgow.

There are food banks, but also pantries, community meals, soup kitchens etc. Your local authority may have a similar resource?

Do an anonymous question on a local Facebook page. There’s usually multiple places to get help, it’s finding them all. They aren’t all listed as FB. For instance a church near me has a drop in session for advice, but they feed people and send them away with food and information about other places to try, not listed as a FB.

By any chance are you in Norfolk? I can point you to several places there?

bergamotorange · 17/06/2024 19:08

Just to say I am sorry you are experiencing this stress Brew

So difficult, I read about how much time and energy it takes up to navigate services like this so hopefully you get something sorted.

Might be worth asking for food on olio? There's a wanted section

WithACatLikeTread · 17/06/2024 19:28

Try some churches. They often have food pantries they give to people in need.

AdoraBell · 17/06/2024 20:44

I was going to suggest a church or temple, depending what’s in your local area. Do you have DC at school? I know some schools give out food parcels. Really hope you find something before you can get to the food bank.

Do you any food at home?
