Bear with me its my first post !! The cost of living is really squeezing my food budget so I have just started using TGTG.I have had some belting bags, really lovely quality. Then,I gave Morrisons a go, never again.I used the Cafe surprise bag.Well, never again ! FIVE prawn sandwiches and FIVE bags of sliced brown apple.,If the sandwiches had been cheese I would have e happily eaten them next day,but out of date prawns is a definite no. This was at 5 pm so no one could have eaten 5 prawn butties before bed ! I did get my money back but that isnt my issue. This is about reducing food waste, all Morrisons is doing is reducing their waste by passing it on to someone else.Next day I had a magic grocery bag from them. 3 two litre milk (That days date) 5 loaves and 5 soft battered passion fruit.Has any one had a good bag from them ?

I've only done it a few times but morrisons have been the best ones we have had huge variety of lovely fruit and veg. Ultimately they are only going to give away what they can't sell so you (and they) never know what's going to be left at the end of the day!

SheilaFentiman · 05/03/2024 14:10

But isn’t the point of TGTG that they are giving you food that goes off that day, on the assumption that you will eat it that day?

SheilaFentiman · 05/03/2024 14:11

By which I mean: the supermarket can’t work on the assumption that you are ok to stretch a cheese sandwich past its date but not a prawn sandwich. They are both as nearly out of date as each other.

SheilaFentiman · 05/03/2024 14:13

And you can freeze bread (and milk) - though our family of 4 would have a good crack at 6 pints of milk in porridge and the like.

Mummame222 · 05/03/2024 14:14

It’s what ever is left over, you’re lucky they refunded you, they didn’t have to. That’s the risk you take hence why it is so cheap.

SomethingDifferentt · 06/03/2024 19:55

We've had a morrisons grocery bag many times and every single one has been fantastic. Occasionally the odd bakery item but mainly fruit and veg. Often lots and lots of berries which the kids eat a load of and then I freeze the rest.

The best one we had, when I counted up we had about £40 worth of berries alone, tubs and tubs of blueberries and a couple of other random ones, then quite a few other fruits and veg besides.

Never had anything off, all good to eat.

WoodBurningStov · 06/03/2024 20:00

I use TGTG a fair few times, but the two times I've ordered from Morrisons I've turned up and they said there isn't anything so cancelled the order. Thankfully I went there to grab some bits so it wasn't a wasted journey, otherwise I'd have been annoyed

Soontobe60 · 06/03/2024 20:06

If I got 5 prawn sarnies, I’d eat 1 straight away and a couple the next day. Thinking you cant eat them a few hours after the sell by date is being very precious!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 06/03/2024 20:24

Morrisons get ones used to be great - not quite as good lately so only occasionally get one.

Toby carvery roast one isn't bad - you get a massive tub.

Whatthetrolley · 07/03/2024 21:37

I've stopped ordering Morrisons bags had a few iffy ones but the one that made me say no more. Was food that was 2 days out of date and a bag full of mouldy fruit. I did get my money returned.

Beenalongwinter · 08/03/2024 18:36

Yes I would eat one sandwich in the car but only eat one slice of bread .
Then take the prawns out the rest and make a prawn cocktail. 😊

makeanddo · 08/03/2024 18:41

I would also point out that some retailers use the full price of the item to get to the ££ of food. I believe M&S do this - so a prawn sandwich retailing at £3.99 but reduced to £2.50 because it's out if date that day is classed as £3.99 because that's its cost. You do have to be careful, I think it's a case if some you win some you lose as well as being careful.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 08/03/2024 19:39

The new dynamic pricing is a con. The M&S at the station has always been £4.99 as far as I am aware. It now has dynamic pricing so as I had to pick my daughter up from work 15 minutes before the slot ended I thought I would check it and get it, was expecting it to maybe go to £3. Even just before the end of the slot it didn't go any lower than £4.99.

Looked the next day and it's now starting at £7.49 so the dynamic low price is the same price as it always was!

ohpumpkinseeds · 08/03/2024 19:58

It's pot luck really, that's part of the point. Weirdly the most consistent one near me is Greggs! I only ever do it before days out with the wider family when there's a big group of us. We get heaps of cakes, biscuits, filled baguettes etc and they're all fine to use the next day for a picnic. I wouldn't use it on a normal day but for days out it's great.

My most hit and miss one is Budgens, sometimes I get an absolute haul of pizza express pizzas, blocks of cheese and butter; meat etc. Other times I get crappy ready meals we wouldn't eat.

suki1964 · 10/03/2024 23:49

I have the TGTG app but I live rural so very little offered

However on a city break - OMG amazing

We went budget, I mean budget, room only travel lodge budget, and got enough breakfast for the two of us for £4 and lunches for two for around £5

I love the idea of it. When I told DH Id booked a TGTG lunch he was like wtf, is it going to be food we would eat, he was amazed and then gave off at me that I hadn't used it before lol

Flatleak · 11/03/2024 00:44

I find Morrisons awful on it. They gave me a bag of fridge food that was all many days past its 'use by dates' and prepared vegetables that were swimming in brown liquid 🤢

BeAzureExpert · 11/03/2024 00:54

apart from gregs any shop that does reduced i prefer that rather than risking it with the shop created bags

Deebee90 · 11/03/2024 01:06

I get the aldi too good to go bags and never had a bad one yet. Always get decent meat, salad bits and the occasional sweet treat. We got one last month and it had 3 packs of mince in, 2 lots of chicken and some grapes and salad bowls.
